24、 Technology has become an important part of our lives. It has changed our lives in many ways. In many ways, it makes life more convenient for us: we can send messages quickly through the Internet, cook meals in a few minutes in a microwave and book train tickets online instead of walking to the station. However, in our increasingly technology driven world, have we become addicted to(上瘾的) technology?
Not too long ago, many children enjoyed reading a good book in their spare time. Nowadays, young people are more likely to be seen playing video games or watching television. Some people even say they can't go without watching their favourite TV programme! Similarly, sending letters has become a thing of the past. It has been replaced by email, instant messaging and social media. I think this is a huge shame. For me, there’s nothing better than receiving a letter in the post. It shows someone has taken the time to sit down and write something. This is much more private than a conversation online.
The appearance of social media has, in some ways, turned us into anti-social beings. Instead of meeting up with friends and seeing them face-to-face, we now spend a lot of time communicating online. Although online communication has its advantages—especially, enabling us to keep in touch with loved ones in different countries—we shouldn’t forget the value of real-life human interaction(互相). It is, after all in our nature to interact with others!
Certainly, I spend a lot of time using technology. I depend on the Internet and my laptop to plan lessons for my classes. I use wifi on my phone to send messages via(通过) apps such as WeChat and QQ. However, I still consider taking a break from technology is liberating(解放).
【1】Para.1 was mainly written to ________.
A.list the advantages of technology B.show how technology has changed our life

A.who meet friends often B.who refuse online communication

A.Many children enjoy reading books nowadays.
B.Watching TV has become important to some people.
C.Some people keep writing letters to others.
D.The writer prefers receiving emails to receiving letters.

A.He should use technology as much as possible.
B.He shouldn’t depend on the technology too much.
C.He can’t stand using technology.
D.He doesn’t know whether to use technology.
【5】What's the best title for the passage?
A.Are We Addicted To Technology? B.Should We Use Technology?
C.An Introduction To Technology D.The Change Brought By Technology
25、"Oh, how large he is!"
"Isn't he? And such wonderfully strong legs!"
"See his trunk(象鼻), too! Isn't it cute! And he is well stuffed(填充的)! This is really one of the best toys in the UK that ever came into our shop, Geraldine, don't you think so?"
"Yes, Angelina. I must call father to come and look at him. He will make a lovely present for some boy or girl - I mean this Stuffed Elephant will make a lovely present, not our father!" and Miss Angelina Mugg smiled at her sister across the big packing box of Christmas toys they were opening in their father's store.
"Oh, no! Of course we wouldn't want father to be given away as a toy!" laughed Geraldine. "But this Stuffed Elephant-oh, I just love him!"
Miss Geraldine Mugg caught up the rather large toy animal and hugged it tightly in her arms.
"Be careful" called her sister. "You may break him!"
"Oh, he's just a Stuffed Elephant!" laughed Geraldine. "I mean he hasn't any works inside him to wind up(结束).There's nothing but cotton inside him. But I am beginning to like him more than I cane for some of the toys that do wind up. I almost wish I were small again, so I could have this Elephant for myself!"
"He is nice," admitted(承认)Angelina.
"Well, I'm glad they like me," thought the Stuffed Elephant to himself, for just now he was not allowed to speak out loud or move around, as the Make Believe toys could do at certain times.

26、Mindlessly checking Facebook makes you an awful lot like a lab mouse continuously pushing a button in order to get a treat.
When you check your phone, your brain gets its own little zing; Someone might be talking about you on Facebook! No? Reload. Maybe your Instagram got a heart! Reload. Reload.
But you’re no rat. Human brains can fight the ways apps hijack our brains, if we learn some skills to deal with this problem.
Are Facebook or Twitter “addictions” (瘾) ? Recent scientific research about social media doesn’t agree on that term, but evidence that we aren’t doing well is present at dinner tables where everyone is staring at screens, and at crosswalks where absent-minded people walk into traffic.
I became mindful of my early-morning bad habits. Pre-coffee, half awake, I’d lie there for an hour with my phone. So I called up psychologists, brain scientists and app designers for advice on what actually would help me.
Surprisingly, they didn’t tell me to immediately stop, but instead, they told me I needed the skills for managing social media as part of my life.
Limit Triggers (诱因)
Our brains are made to quickly eat up information. So why let social-media companies decide when to attract you? Turn off app notifications on your phone and computer, especially for live video broadcasts. They are designed to create the fear of missing out.
Avoid Quicksand (流沙, 陷阱)
When you’re on Facebook, it is easy to read one article, then another. Nir Eyal, author of the 2014 book “Hooked” says he forces himself not to read anything right away. Instead, he saves articles to a service called Pocket, which reads them aloud while he’s at the gym.
We hurt ourselves when we use social media as a break from serious work. Our brains need a chance to be empty. Research suggests the best way to help your brain focus is exercise, even for a short period. Staring into space would be better than refreshing Facebook.
Make New Norms
Not that long ago, you could be fired for not paying attention during a meeting or class; now, many openly use their phones or laptops. Bosses could set a better work culture by providing charging stations at meetings where everyone could leave their phones, then focus on the discussion at hand. Mr. Eyal suggests you try shaming friends who have bad habits-if you do it politely. If someone is not listening to you at dinner, ask, “Is everything OK?” The answer might start an important conversation.
Tech Should Help
The social-media industry has a responsibility here, too. Since companies usually know exactly how much time users spend on their apps, they should offer help to people who have problem behavior. And for the rest of us, let’s encourage app makers to make their products more helpful, not more demanding of our time.
【1】What does the underlined word “hijack” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Wash.

D.Empty.
【2】Why does Mr.Eyal save articles to Pocket?
A.To rest his tired brain.
B.To refresh his Facebook immediately.
C.To get more time to exercise.

【3】What is the best title of this passage?
A.Take a break from busy life.
B.Free your brain from social media.
C.Separate social life from your work.
D.Keep your life away from apps.
【4】What can we infer from the passage?
A.The social-media industry should make more app products.
B.People with problem behavior should ask brain scientists for help.
C.We should decide when to connect to social media by ourselves.
D.A company with charging stations must have a better work culture.
