  • 25、Being a mother, daughter and wife, Dr. Chen Wei is a female general in the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. As a 54-year-old researcher at the Institute of Military Medicine, she has made major achievements in COVID-19-related basic research and development of vaccine(疫苗).     On January 26, Chen arrived in Wuhan to work on vaccine development. She cut her black hair short for the convenience of working in a protective suit.     From SARS and Ebola to COVID-19, Dr. Chen has spent half of her life fighting against deadly viruses. When SARS broke out in 2003, Dr. Chen and her team tried their best to find out the cause of the disease. She once spent 6-8 hours a day working in a sterilized lab (无菌实验室). The team finally developed the nasal spray which helped protect thousands of people. In 2014, they succeeded in developing a vaccine for Ebola, a deadly virus spreading across Africa.
