COMING TO AMERICA (1988)
This movie continues to be a classic. Watching it as a kid, I thought all the characters that Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall played in the movie were extremely funny. But even more than the comedy, I loved the scale of this film — the size of the wedding and the scope of the ceremony with the African dancers. It never feels like a small, cheap movie.
BRIDESMAIDS (2011)
I remember watching it in the theater and thinking that this will forever change the face of comedy. Not only was it about women, but they weren’t all gorgeous women. Bridesmaids tells a story about five bridesmaids all experiencing different struggles in life. But due to the wedding, they became friends and faced the challenges in life.
WHEN HARRY MET SALLY (1989)
I fell in love with Nora Ephron after watching this movie. I always go back to it when I write dialogues between two characters who are madly in love with each other, because you’re hard-pressed to find dialogues as sharp as this. It’s basically a master class. It’s still my favorite romantic comedy.
BIG (1988)
Tom Hanks is incredible, and there are so many funny, lovely moments in it. My favorite scene is when Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia play “Chopsticks” with their feet using the giant piano at FAO Schwarz. It’s really well-written with lots of laughs, but a lot of heart.

22、Each year, as many as one billion birds are killed in the US from collisions (相撞) with glass windows and buildings every year. Birds that crashed into Philadelphia buildings began to be collected in the 1890s. Nearly 100 species of birds are known to have died out from crashes with buildings and other structures in Philadelphia. Many other species are probably affected in the city.
Called Lights Out Philly, the voluntary program in Philadelphia encourages buildings to turn out or dim unnecessary external and internal lights between midnight and six o’clock early in the morning to protect birds as they pass through during migration seasons.
Bird migration seasons are from April l to May 31 in spring and from August 15 to November 15 in fall. Each year, millions of birds pass through Philadelphia along a migration route known as the Atlantic Flyway. Bird-glass crashes are very common for migrating birds, most of which travel at night. Glass is difficult for them to recognize as hard surfaces, and artificial light can fool them into crashing with buildings and outdoor structures. Turning off lights between midnight and sunrise helps minimize the effect of artificial light when most birds are migrating.
On Oct. 2, 2020, a stormy and foggy day, Philadelphia had its largest mass collision event in more than 70 years with an estimated 1,000 birds crashing with buildings in one 3.5-square block area in just one day. Paired with a terrible storm of weather and fog conditions, the bright city and building lights attracted and confused the migrating birds, causing them to crash with buildings and outdoor structures.
Even if you don’t play a part in managing the lights of a big building, you can help birds avoid crashes by making the glass opaque to reduce the amount and intensity of artificial light at night, changing the color of lighting to blue or green, shortening the duration lights are on, directing the lighting downward or screening lighting.

23、When I was a boy, I used to love walking in the woods around my home. My mom warned me several times never to travel so far that I would lose sight of the house. Being a typical boy, however, I soon found myself hiking further and further away, testing just how far I could go into the woods without getting lost. After losing my way once for two hours, though, I decided that I had better leave a trail the next time I went for a walk.
The very next day I decided to try it. I walked into the woods until the house was out of sight. Then I broke a small branch on a young tree to mark my place. I wandered further in and broke another limb and then another. In a few spots where there were no limbs small enough, I snapped the heads off the low plants that were growing where the sunlight broke through the trees. After a while I finally got tired and decided to head back. Turning around I easily found my tracks, but instead of being proud I felt sad. I could see the trail of destruction I had left in the woods going on and on. Looking at the broken limbs and dead flowers I wondered if God was disappointed in me and I vowed never to do that again. Instead, I started to cherish my times alone in the woods with nature. I’d sit by the streams and listen to them sing. I’d watch the birds and squirrels. I’d bend down to smell the flowers. And I even buried an acorn or two hoping that one day an Oak might grow.
There is an old Native American Saying that goes “We will be known forever by the tracks we leave.” As I have grown older and wiser, I have done my best to never leave a trail of destruction in my life as I did in the woods that day. I have instead tried to leave tracks of love, kindness, goodness, and compassion and I have strived to show others that they can do the same. May you always leave tracks of joy as you follow your own trail of love.
