二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Hydration (水合作用) sometimes takes a backseat to other health goals or priorities (优先). Here’s everything you need to know to stay hydrated.

Know why water is good for you

Doctors and dietitians always talk about the importance of hydration. The cells, tissues, and organs of your body need water to function.1, which include transporting nutrients and helping to remove waste. Water is so important that the average human body only lasts about three to four days without it.

    2

There is no perfect calculation to determine how much water you should drink a day. There are too many contributing factors, such as altitude, climate, activity level, diet, and personal medical history.3, your body needs more fluid to process the food.

So how much water should you drink a day? On average the daily recommended fluid intake for women is around 11 glasses of water and 13 glasses for men. Plain water is ideal for hydration, but all fluid helps.

    Know whether you need water

An easy way to see if you are drinking enough water is to check your urine (尿液). If you are only producing small amounts of urine infrequently and it’s dark in color, you need to drink more water. Of course, if you have dry mouth or thirst, you should drink more water, too.4.

Know how you can drink enough water

Worrying and wondering how much water you should drink a day won’t happen if you break up your water intake. Drink 18 ounces of water at 7:00 a. m., 12:00 p. m., 3:00 p. m., and 7:00 p. m.5. By the time you’re thirsty, you’re likely already dehydrated. And thirst isn’t always a reliable indicator of fluid needs, especially in children and the elderly.

    A. If you eat a high-fiber diet

    B. Water plays many vital roles

    C. If you eat less food than usual

    D. Know how much water you need

    E. Know where you can get the water

    F. Don’t rely on your thirst to remember to drink water

    G. How much water you should drink a day depends on situations

  • 23、Everything from essays to exams is threatened by advanced artificial intelligence like ChatGPT, which can produce clear answers to complex questions. Educators are particularly concerned about students turning to AI tools like ChatGPT with their homework. One suggested solution is to make students write exam essays using pen and paper. 【1】

To stay competitive through their careers, students need to learn how to use AI writing tools properly to gain output. 【2】 As professionals working into the 2060s and beyond, they will need to learn how to deal with AI systems effectively.

In addition to the sound reasons for treating ChatGPT as an opportunity and not a threat, there are practical ones. It simply isn’t possible to effectively ban this technology. Many students can’t help using AI assistance while writing. 【3】 While there are tools aimed at judging text produced by AI, future versions of AI will get better at emulating (模仿) human writing-including the style of the particular person who is using it.

【4】 Some students, who use ChatGPT despite the ban, would avoid being found cheating in their writing, through luck or thanks to careful editing. Worse still, some students would be falsely charged with using ChatGPT, causing great stress and even leading to wrong punishment.

Writing is a skill worthy of great respect. But most students don’t have the desire to become professional writers. Instead, they are preparing for careers where they will write to further goals beyond the production of writing. As we do today, they will write to communicate, explain, request and persuade. 【5】

A.The ban of ChatGPT would also produce the injustice.

B.There is argument that the use of ChatGPT is good for education.

C.AI writing tools, when properly used, will help them do those things better.

D.Learning to write without AI does indeed promote focused, disciplined thinking.

E.But that’s wrong to ban students from using labor-saving and time-saving AI writing tools.

F.Besides, the AI writing tools will always be one step ahead of the tools to discover AI text.

G.They need to learn to compose well-organized essays using AI-produced text and traditional writing.

  • 24、In the rush to get to school, you drop a piece of toast on the floor. Do you throw it away or decide it’s still OK to eat? If you’re like most people, you eat it. Maybe you follow the “5-second rule”, which says foods are safe to eat if you pick them up within 5 seconds after dropping them. But you might want to think again. Scientists now say that 5 seconds is all it takes for foods to become polluted with enough bacteria to make you sick.

Bacteria can cause many kinds of illnesses. Some kinds of bacteria can grow on food. If you eat foods on which these bacteria are growing, you can become sick.

One of these food-borne bacteria is Salmonella. It makes 1.4 million people sick every year. Salmonella is often found in raw eggs and chicken. Cooking kills these bacteria, which is why it is so important to cook eggs, chicken, and other foods thoroughly.

But how long does it take these bacteria to pollute food? A team of scientists in South Carolina did an experiment. First, they placed an amount of Salmonella on three surfaces: wood, tile, and carpet. They placed a piece of bread and a piece of sausage on each surface for 5, 30, or 60 seconds. After just 5 seconds, both the bread and the sausage picked up enough bacteria to make you sick.

So, forget the 5-second rule. If your toast drops on the floor, throw it away and get another piece of clean toast. And next time, be careful not to drop it!

1After dropping a piece of toast, a person who follows the “5-second rule” will_____.

    A. get another piece of clean toast quickly and eat it

    B. eat the toast within 5 seconds and feel pleased

    C. pick up the toast as quickly as possible and eat it

    D. throw away dirty toast immediately and go away

2What can be inferred from the experiment done by the scientists?

    A. Food can pick up enough bacteria to make people sick after just 5 seconds.

    B. Bread and sausages are more easily polluted than other food.

    C. People cannot eat bread and sausages placed on wood, tile, and carpet.

    D. People can eat food dropped on the floor within 30 seconds.

3What can we learn after reading the passage?

    A. We shouldn’t throw food away because they are precious.

    B. We’d better not eat the food dropped on the floor.

    C. Follow the 5-second rule, and our life can be better.

    D. The 5-second rule is not fit for everyone.

4In which part of a newspaper can you most probably find this passage?

    A. Culture.   B. Technology.   C. Advertisement.   D. Health.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面材料。根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Growing up, my family always had cats-but by the time I got to college, I wanted one I could call my own. So, I visited the Humane Society in Ann Arbor, Michigan, looking for the perfect cat.

There was a black kitten I nearly ignored. He was skinny and undersized and not even all that cute, but he stuck his paws through the cage, tempting me to play. He was clearly interested in me, so I asked to hold him. He curled up on my shoulder and began purring (发出咕噜声). Our connection was immediate. I adopted him, named him Aladdin, and brought him home.

Over the next 16 years, Aladdin and I were inseparable. He was gentle, sweet and playful. But one night last year, everything changed.

It was as if one day Aladdin was still acting like a kitten, and then the next day he was vomiting (呕吐) frequently and no longer acting like his usual self. He'd lost weight, which I know is one of the 13 signs your cat is sick. I took him to the vet and the diagnosis was depressing: stomach cancer. Worse yet, the vet thought he was too old for surgery. All I could do was give him medication to help make him more comfortable.

A month later, Aladdin got worse. He began vomiting uncontrollably. I took him to the emergency vet, where they kept him overnight to administer fluids (输液). When I went to pick him up the next morning, on Christmas Eve, the vet said it was time to put him down. It was the humane thing to do. With deep sorrow, I said goodbye as he went to sleep.

Once I got back home, reality hit me hard. Usually, Aladdin was there to wait for me at the door. But he was gone, leaving an aching emptiness in my life and in my home. I suffered from panic attacks that entire week. I told my husband I didn't want another cat for at least a year.

    1.续写词数应为150左右;

    2.请在答题卡的相应位置作答。

Few weeks later, my friend Amy who rescued homeless cats called me.

After I brought her home, my panic attacks gradually disappeared.
