21、 A squirrel (松鼠)that was nearly killed nine years ago is still visiting the family that saved, raised and later sent her into the wild.
In October 2009,a four-week-old squirrel was almost killed by an owl(猫头鹰).Luckily a wildlife rescue group(野生动物营救组织)saved her and left her in the care of Brantley Harrison and-her family in South Carolina. The Harrisons often look after wild animals and later send them back into the wild.
The Harrisons named her Bella. With three other squirrels, Bella stayed with the family until spring. In April 2010, the squirrels were sent back into the wild. Bella, however, wasn’t ready to leave her human family. Within days of being released (释放), she started visiting them, looking for treats. Brantley said that the other squirrels also came back over the first few days, but within a week they stopped coming by .
“Bella usually sits at the front door, waiting for someone to notice her. She comes almost every day.” said Brantley. Her husband John often brings Bella her favorite food as she is usually waiting by the door for him. Actually Bella has become a member of the family.

22、We’re now used to wearing masks in public during the COVID-19 outbreak. It’s reported that people use about 300 million masks and then throw away every day in China. Where do these used masks go? You might think that they just go in a garbage bin (垃圾桶). But that’s just the first stop on the masks’ journey.
After people throw the masks into bins, garbage trucks empty the bins and take them to landfills (垃圾场). Next, workers will dump (倾倒) the masks into garbage incinerators (焚化炉) and burn them. Burning masks might not seem to be very good for the environment. Won’t it cause pollution?
The answer is “no”, according to People’s Daily. That’s because most masks are made of non-woven fabrics (无纺布). It’s an environmentally-friendly material. It can break down easily. After burning, it turns into water and carbon dioxide (二氧化碳). As long as landfills are properly disinfected (消毒良好的) and deal with their emissions (排放) correctly, burning the masks won’t cause pollution.
In fact, burning the masks can bring some benefits. The process of burning garbage can produce electricity. Burning one ton of garbage can generate more than 400 kilowatt hours (度) of electricity. Some people predict that there will be 162,000 tons of used masks in China this year. Burning all of them can generate 64 million kilowatt hours of electricity. This is enough to allow an electric car to drive 370 million kilometers, which is 9,250 times around the Earth’s equator (赤道).
What’s more, the slag (残渣) from burning masks can be used to make something else.

23、Americans love to drive. They have drive — in movie theatres, drive — through restaurants and driving vacations. It’s often called the “Great American Road Trip”: Your whole family gets into a van or Recreational Vehicle (RV, 旅行房车), and hits the road for a summertime trip across the country.
American cars are always big, but RVs are the biggest. These are houses on wheels. RVs have kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms. All across the country you can find RV parks — place to park your RV and spend the night.
As big as RVs are, they still seem very small to a family who has to spend every hour of every day together. With your little brother kicking you in the face all night in your tiny bed under the table, the dog barking and Mom playing her country music on the radio, your family is not at its best. What’s worse, RVs are always breaking down. So it’s possible to spend a lot of time watching Dad under the RV on side of a dusty road.
But RV travel can be a great time with the family too. You can see the country in the comfort of your own “home”. You can spend every night in a different, natural and beautiful place, or just stay where you are. You don’t have to pay for hotels or restaurants, only gas. But, best of all, you are free to go wherever you want at any time in your home — away — from — home.

A.Because RVs can go faster than other cars.
B.Because they can play country music on the road.
C.Because RVs never break down on the road.
