六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   My name is Sam. I’m 14 years old and I live in London, England. I’m very fit, I’m good at all kinds of sports, and I’m generally in good health. However, there is something really strange that happens to me. Every time something interesting is going to happen, I get sick.

Here’s an example. Two years ago, the school organized a trip to Versailles in France. Versailles is a lovely place near Paris, the capital of France. The plan was to take a train from London to Paris, and then travel to Versailles by bus. I was really excited about this trip, especially the ride on the train, because the train goes through a tunnel under the English Channel, the water between England and France.

What happened? I woke up the day before the trip with a terrible fever. I had flu. So I couldn’t go on the trip!

Last year, something similar happened. I play for the school soccer team—I’m one of the best players—and the school organized a visit to Scotland for the soccer team. The plan was to play three matches against schools in Edinburgh and Glasgow, the two biggest cities in Scotland. I was really looking forward to that trip!

And what happened? I injured my knee when I played football the day before we left. Again I couldn’t go there.

I’m also in the school choir. This year, the school is organizing a visit to Austria so that we can take part in a choir competition there. We will leave next Thursday. I hope this is third time lucky, and I can go. I expect that I won’t wake up with a sore throat the day before we leave.

    根据短文内容,判断句子的正误,正确的写T,错误的写F

1Sam is generally in good health, but every time something interesting is going to happen, he’ll get sick

2The trip to Versailles in France is far, so their school planed to go there by train.

3Sam is the best player in their school soccer team.

4He had a very good time in Austria.

5Sam is a boy from England.

Nadia Comaneci, a famous gymnast (体操运动员), was born in Romania in 1961.

When she was doing cartwheels (侧手翻) on the playground at the age of 7, a PE teacher saw her. He told her family that she was very good and advised Nadia to train in the capital of Romania. Although it was a long way from her home, Nadia went because she loved gymnastics (体操).

After that, she trained hard and took part in lots of competitions. In 1975, she was named as one of the Athletes of the 20th Century.

In 1976, Nadia went to the Olympics in Canada. She was so fantastic in the competition that everyone waited for the score, a high score. But the scoreboard showed 1.00!

Everyone was surprised. There wasn’t a sound for a moment. Then a voice came, “Ladies and gentlemen, Nadia Comaneci...10!”

The audience (观众) cheered very loudly. So what happened? Well, when the scoreboard was built, no one thought a score of 10.00 was possible. The decimal point (小数点) was in the wrong place! In fact, the scoreboard only had three digits (数位) to show scores, such as 9.50 or 9.85 at that time.

In the 1976 Summer Olympics, Nadia Comaneci scored a perfect 10, which was thought impossible before. From then on, she was looked as a heroine. In 1984, she got retired (退休的).

【1】At first, the scoreboard showed Nadia got ________ in the Olympics in Canada.

    A.10.00

    B.1.00

    C.9.50

    D.9.85

【2】In Paragraph 5, “Everyone was surprised” because ________.

A.she was fantastic in the competition

    B.there wasn’t a sound

    C.she got a score of 10

    D.the score was too low

【3】Why was Nadia regarded as a heroine?

A.Because she practiced gymnastics from a very young age.

B.Because she trained very hard in the capital of Romania.

C.Because she got an impossibly high score in a competition.

D.Because she could do cartwheels on the playground perfectly.

    【4】This passage is probably a ________.

    A.news report

    B.notice

    C.novel

    D.life story

  • 23、【语篇来自二十一世纪学生英文报·试题原创】

Research has shown that when we volunteer—where we give ourselves and our time to help others—we actually end up benefiting too. Our happiness grows. We feel more satisfied with life. We even have more energy and creativity. Basically, we have more to give.

I’ve noticed a pattern with my friends. Sometimes, they get into the habit of gossiping about others. They will constantly complain about their bosses or coworkers. It seems as if they get caught in this loop of complaining, and their frustration distracts them in other parts of their life. When this happens, they become uninterested in new events or become annoyed by their colleagues or things that happen at work.

At the same time, I’ve also seen other friends go out of their way to help someone on their team or to help out on a project that had very little—or even nothing—to do with their main work. Although it seems like they won’t receive anything in return, my friends benefit from these interactions. My friends have told me about the stronger relationships they’ve built at work and the fun they’ve had working on new and interesting projects. They’ve told me about how the people they helped before have returned the favor later on. Not only that, but they have even talked about times where their boss recognized them for their work or when they were informed in advance about upcoming projects.

We often think that when we help someone else, we aren’t doing anything for ourselves. But we actually often end up getting back just as much as we give. When we step in to help someone, we often turn out to be helping ourselves, as well.

【1】Can we benefit from helping others?

    A.Yes, we can.

    B.No, we can’t.

C.Yes, we can only be happy.

    D.We don’t know.

【2】Complaining about others may make people________.

    A.be interested in new events

    B.be uninterested in new events

    C.be happy with their colleagues

    D.gossip about others

【3】The author’s friends have built strong relationships through________.

    A.gossiping

    B.working

    C.helping others

    D.complaining

【4】What we get back is _________what we give when we help others.

    A.more than

    B.less than

    C.as much as

    D.no more than

【5】What does the passage mainly tell us?

    A.Helping others is not interesting.

    B.Helping others is helping yourself.

    C.Helping others has little benefits.

    D.Don’t help others.

  • 24、Life in the future will be different from life today. But what will the change be?

The population is growing fast. There will be more people in the world and most of them will live longer than people live now.

Computers will be much smaller and more useful and there will be at least one in every home. And computer studies will be one of the important subjects in school then.

People will work fewer hours than they do now and they will have more free time for sports, watching TV and travel. Traveling will be much cheaper and easier. And many more people will go to other countries for holidays.

There will be changes in our food, too. More land will be used for building new towns and houses for all the people. Then there will be less room for cows and sheep, so meat will be more expensive. Maybe no one will eat it every day. Instead they will eat more fruits and vegetables. Maybe people will be healthier.

Work in the future will be different, too. Dangerous and hard work will be done by robots. Because of this, many people will not have enough work to do. This will be a problem.

    根据短文内容,判断下列句子正误。正确的用“A”表示,不正确的用“B”表示。

1In the future there will be more people.

2Every family will have at least one robot.

3In the future people don't have to work long hours.

4People may not eat meat as much as they do today.

5One big problem in the future is that many people don't have to work.
