24、 Humans share the earth with different kinds of wildlife. However, many of our animal and plant friends may not be around for much longer.
According to the first report on biodiversity (生多样性) released by the United Nations in May 2019, 1 million of earth’s million species are in danger of extinction (灭绝), including amphibians (两栖动物), marine mammals (海洋哺乳动物) and insects.
Humans are mainly to blame for this, according to the report. The world’s population has more than doubled (from 3.7 to 7.6 billion) in the last 50 years. This has led scientists to believe that there could be a sixth mass extinction, the first to be caused by humans, according to the Guardian. There have been five mass extinctions before, the last being 65 million years ago. That was when dinosaurs went extinct.
To deal with this problem, many countries have taken action. For example, China started banning (禁止) ivory trading in 2016, China Daily reported.
According to HuffPost, there are things that we can do personally to save animal species. For example, we can avoid buying products that come from animals and use less water. “Each individual (个人) action has an effect and every person can make a difference,” said Claudia Sobrevila from the Global Wildlife Program, according to the World Bank.

It may take a sharp mind, as an American author says that the search engine giant (搜索引擎巨人) asks its interviewees to answer difficult question.
William Poundstone believes that he has unlocked the secret of how to succeed in an interview at Google in a new book, Are You Smart Enough to Work at Google?
Poundstone lists several of the brain teasers (脑筋急转弯) that are said to be used by Google interviewers, from “can you swim faster in water or in syrup (糖浆)?” to “how would you weigh your head?”
Poundstone told ABC News that any Google’s questions are open-ended on purpose.
