四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Have you ever read the novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland? When British writer Lewis Carroll chopped Alice down the rabbit hole in 1865, he had no way of knowing what it would lead to (how popular it would be). The girl and her friends in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland have become well-known around the world. More than 100 versions of the book have been published. More than two dozen adaptations (改编) of the story have been made into movies. Millions of people are fascinated by the story and the characters in it.

Why have Mice and her friends kept us fascinated with them for so long? Why is the story so attractive?

One reason is that many people think the 7-year-old girl is our inner child. She is the child that we ever dreamed to be. Alice is the center of the book. She's brave, curious and always wants to move ahead to the next adventure. When she meets problems or even is attacked, she never once thinks of asking her parents for help. Instead, she tries to solve the problem in her own way. Maybe this can explain why the story is so welcomed by kids and teenagers. Because nowadays, they have been overprotected by their parents and can't live in a world of their own. Alice is the child they really want to be.

Besides, the attractive setting in the book is another reason. The story is set in an imaginative world. Many things that don't exist in the real world can be found in the story. In the book, Alice can be 3 inches (7.6 cm) tall and stand up on her tiptoes. She even finds a blue caterpillar smoking on a mushroom. Kids and teenagers are really attracted by the strange and imaginative world in the story.

The wonderland world makes us connect Alice's adventures with our own childhood. No matter how old you are, there is always a child living in your heart.

1The first novel of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll first appeared ________.

    A.in 1865 B.when Alice is 7 C.100 years after the writer died

2What kind of girl is Alice?

A.She is a little girl who sits in the center of the book.

B.She always tries to settle problems by herself.

C.She attracts lots of kids and teenagers.

3Which of the following means the novel is really popular?

A.Lewis Carroll dropped Alice down the rabbit hole.

B.More than 100 books have been published.

C.Many directors made the story into movies.

4Which of the following is TURE according to the passage?

    A.Alice is very short.

B.Things in the book can be found in the real world.

C.The story makes us think of our childhood.

5What is the passage mainly about?

    A.Alice's adventures in the novel.

B.The popularity of the book and why it is so attractive.

    C.What the novel is about.

  • 25、Have you ever tried making music with glasses or bottles filled with water? I bet your favorite band hasn’t. Experiment with your own special sounds by turning glasses of water into instruments, make some cool music and find out how it works.

    What you’ll need:

Five or more drinking glasses or glass bottles. Water. Wooden stick such as a pencil. If possible, you’d better do it in a small but empty room with a long table in.

    Instructions:

Line the glasses up next to each other and fill them with different amounts of water. The first should have just a little water while the last should be almost full, and the ones in between should have slightly more than the first.

Hit the glass with the least amount of water and watch the sound, then hit the glass with the most water, which makes the higher sound?

Hit the other glasses and see what noise they make. See if you can get a tune going by hitting the glasses in a certain order.

    What’s happening?

Each of the glasses will have a different tone when you hit with the pencil. The glass with the most water will have the lowest tone while the glass with the least water will have the highest. Small vibrations (震动) are made when you hit the glass, and this creates sound waves which travel through the water. More water means slower vibrations and a deeper tone.

1What’s needed in the experiment according to the passage?

    A. Five bottles of water.   B. Seven drinking glasses

    C. A big and empty room.   D. A pencil and a wooden stick.

2According to the passage , the purpose of the experiment is to get __________.

    A. a tone.   B. a tune.   C. some vibrations.   D. some water

3Which glass can have the lowest tone when you hit it in the experiment?

    A. The one with no water.   B. The one with the most water.

    C. The one with the least water.   D. The one with half of the water.

4Where is the passage the most likely to come from?

    A. A Travelling Guide   B. A Child Novel

    C. A Fashion Magazine   D. A Music Textbook.

  • 27、   Scientists in Britain and the United States have made a new kind of enzyme(酵素) that eats plastics( ). With its help, plastics can be turned into smaller parts and go away quickly. Scientists believe that, in the future, it could solve the problem of plastic pollution.

The enzyme is able to break down PET, a form of plastic. PET was first made in the 1940s and is now widely used to make plastic bottles. It can remain in the environment for many years and pollute large areas of land and water. So it has always been a headache to deal with the waste from PET and other plastics.

The researchers made the discovery( ) while examining the structure of a natural enzyme in Japan. They found that the natural enzyme was helping to break down PET plastics. So, they decided to make small changes to the enzyme by adding some amino acids( ). It made the natural enzyme’s plastic-eating abilities work faster and better.

John McGeehan, one of the lead researchers, said, “We’ve made an improved enzyme. It’s better than the natural one. And we are trying to make more improvements to it.” He went on, “The enzyme is not harmful to humans or animals, and it is friendly to the environment. So we are considering putting it into wider use.”

The team is now trying to make the enzyme break down PET in large quantities(大量). “We’ll see that the plastic pollution may be stopped with this technology. However, there is still a long way to go,” John McGeehan added.

1Which is not true about the advantage of enzyme?

A.It’s able to make plastics become smaller parts.

B.It can solve the problem of the plastic pollution right now.

C.It’s used to make the plastics disappear in a rapid way.

2The underlined phrase “break down” in the passage probably means “________” in Chinese.

    A.实验 B.生产 C.分解

3Which isn't the change they made to the natural enzyme?

A.Some amino acids were put in it.

B.The speed of plastic-eating has been improved.

C.The quality of plastic -eating remained the same.

4Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A.The scientists are still trying to improve the enzyme.

B.The enzyme will pollute large areas of land and water.

C.The natural enzyme woks better than the improved one.

5We can’t infer from the study that________.

A.The team is able to increase the speed of the plastic -eating abilities

B.Efforts are made to increase the number of PET that the enzyme breaks down

C.Few efforts are required to the improvement of this new enzyme
