25、 My elder brother Steve gave me important lessons in values that helped me grow into an adult after my father died when I was six years old.
Steve taught me to face the results of my behavior. Once when I returned in tears from a Saturday baseball game, it was Steve who took some time to ask me what happened. When I told him that my baseball had flown through Mrs. Holt’s basement window, breaking the glass with a crash, Steve encouraged me to confess to her. After all, I was supposed to be playing in the park down Fifth Street and not in the path between buildings. Although my voice shook as I explained to Mrs. Holt, I offered to pay for the broken window from my pocket money.
I also learned from Steve that personal property (财产) is a sacred(神圣的) thing. After I found a shiny pen in my fifth-grade classroom, I wanted to keep it. Then Steve explained that it might be important to the loser although it had little value (价值). He also reminded (提醒) me of how sad I was when I lost the small dog my father made from a piece of cheap wood. At last, I returned the pen to my teacher, Mrs. Davids. I still remembered the smell of her perfume as she patted me on my shoulder.
Yet of all the lessons Steve gave me, his respect for life is the most vivid in my mind. When I was twelve, I killed an old brown bird in the garden with a gun. Excited with my accuracy, I asked Steve to come from the house to take a look. I shall never forget the way he stood for a long moment and stared at the bird on the ground. Then in a dead, quiet voice, he asked, “Did it hurt you first, Mark?” I didn’t know what to answer. He continued with his eyes firm, “Even if it hurts you first, you should think a long time and then decide whether you will kill it or not.” I really felt terrible then, but that moment stands out as the most important lesson my brother taught me.

26、(From Shenzhen Special Zone Daily. Feb. 13) Some white robots were seen delivering (传送) food at a park in Nanshan District. These robots are used because the park director doesn't want too many people to wait for lunch so as to avoid the people-to-people transmission (传播) of COVID-19. It's easy to be infected with (感染) the virus. Chances are higher if people touch the infected (感染的) things. These robots developed by Candela (Shenzhen) Technology Innovation Co. Ltd. can help solve the problem.
A group of small robots (called Candles) deliver food inside office buildings while another group (called Sunnys) transport the meals between buildings outdoors.
Candle robots can work with gate machines and elevators and will not get in people's way. The robot makes a phone call or texts a message to orderers after arriving at their floor. Thirty Candles have been put into use. They can provide 500 to 1,000 meals each day with at least 60 meals at a time. The robots will be disinfected (消毒) six times a day.
Sunnys work outdoors and are able to avoid running into walkers, bikes and other things. After arriving at the place, a Sunny will give food boxes to a Candle for indoor delivery.
The company also developed a group of medical robots after the outbreak to support hospitals in Wuhan, Beijing and Shenzhen. "Unmanned delivery is very necessary now. We hope these robots, and the technology, can bring comfort to people," said He Zhiwei, general manager of Candela.

27、 There are about 6,000 languages that people are speaking around the world. But 43 percent of these languages are dying out, according to UNESCO(United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization,联合国教科文组织).
This has many reasons. One is that some communities of native(本土的) speakers of the languages are gone, Huff Post reported. These people sometimes leave their communities and move to cities or towns. What's more, to get better education and jobs, young people have to focus their attention on learning dominant (占主导地位的) languages rather than their own languages. Dominant languages are like English, French and Chinese.
Once a language dies, it is hard for it to come back to life. Governments across the world are taking actions to prevent this. In New Zealand, the government has said it wants more than 20 percent of the country’s population to be able to speak Maori (毛利语) by 2040. The country plans to provide Maori lessons in all New Zealand schools by 2025, The New York Times reported.
China is also trying to protect its languages. About 130 languages are spoken in China. In 2015, the government started a project to record all the languages spoken in China, Xinhua reported. Universities like Minzu University of China have created more language majors for their students.
