一、翻译题 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 1、阅读下面的短文。将划线部分译成英文或中文。

Where I’m from, we’re pretty relaxed about time. We don’t like to rush around, so we don’t mind if people are a little late sometimes. If you tell a friend you’re going to their house for dinner, it’s OK if you arrive a bit late. 1.______________________________________(我们喜欢慢慢享受我们的时间)。2. We value the time we spend with our family and friends in our everyday lives. We often just drop our friends’ homes if we have time. We don’t usually have to make plans to meet our friends. When we see each other, it’s polite for boys to shake hands and for girls to kiss each other on the side of the face. We often just walk around the town center, seeing as many of our friends as we can!

In Svitzerland3._________________________________(守时是很重要的)。We are the capital of clocks and watches after all! 4. If someone invites you to meet him or her at noon, then you’re expected to be there at noon. If you’re even 15 minutes late, your friends may get mad. So I make an effort to be on time when I meet my friends. 5. I always leave the house early to avoid heavy traffic because I think it’s impolite to keep others waiting. Also, we never visit a friend’s house without calling first. We almost always make plans to see friends. We usually plan to do something interesting, or go somewhere together.

四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Yesterday, I met a delightful woman at a work event. As we talked, she talked about her childhood in Manila, Philippines. She spoke about the way her culture values their elders, and she explained that children are educated from the time of birth to honor and respect people older than themselves.

It was refreshing (使振作) to hear that, and I enjoyed listening and learning. Here is the memory she shared that I found, so beautiful:

When she was growing up, her father had three jobs to care for his family. She said her dad never complained, and though he worked very hard, he always had time for them. One day, her father was injured at his full-time job. For several months, he was mailed temporary (暂时的) disability checks(支票) while he recovered.

When her father was able to return to his full-time job, he took all those disability checks that were sent to him while he was recovering and handed them back to the company. He told them that he had two good legs and arms, and did not need this money. He told them to give the money to people who could not work, to people who really needed it.

The woman telling the story was a little girl at that time. She had accompanied her father that very day when he went back to his company with all those unopened checks.

"My father is my hero," she remarked. Lowering her voice, she said she would never forget what he did, and what an inspiration and influential mentor he was on how to live life. From my communication with her, it was very obvious that her father's same sweet spirit had been passed down to this woman, and to her family.

Hearing this story was so refreshing to my soul. I hope it is the same to you too.

1When the woman was talking about her childhood, the writer was probably ___________.

A.sad and moved B.surprised and angry

C.annoyed and disappointed D.interested and joyful

2What is implied about the woman's father when she was little?

A.He had little time to care for his family. B.He didn't think work was hard.

C.He did three very dangerous jobs to support the family. D.He thought it was important to spend time with his family.

3The woman's father took the temporary disability checks back to his company because___________.

A.he felt he was looked down upon

B.he wasn't satisfied with the amount

C.he thought others needed them more than him

D.he felt sorry that he had hurt himself by accident

4What did the writer find after talking with the woman?

A.The woman didn't know how hard life was.

B.The woman missed her father very much.

C.The woman's father influenced her in a good way.

D.The woman didn't think her father made the right decision.

5By writing the story, the writer ___________.

A.tries to tell us what we can learn from our parents

B.hopes we can get encouraged by good deeds

C.shows respect for real heroes in our lives

D.wants to ask us to value our family

  • 25、The label(标签), Made in China, is one that is becoming increasing common in shopping centers all over the world.

In the United States, shoppers at Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest retailer(零售商), have a wide selection of products mostly produced in China. The large amount of Chinese imports have created a large selection of goods in other countries as people begin to buy more and more products made in China. These goods are even widely available in other Asian nations, where Chinese-made goods are quite popular. Chinesebrandnames are also becoming more well-known outside China.

When Chinese Americans visit family and friends in their homeland, gifts from the U.S. are a must. But TVs and fashionable clothes aren't rare any more, and anything 'Made in China' shouldn’t be considered in any case.

"When I decide to visit my family members in China, I will have a big headache. What should I buy for them? They may not all speak English, but everyone in China knows those three words," a Chinese American said. "When they see the label 'Made in China,' they will think, 'Why do you send me this?' "

The development of China has surprised the world with its growth. As a result, the other countries are beginning to try to reduce Chinese goods with the use of taxes(税)and import restrictions. However, the development on the Chinese economy still affects the world in many ways.

1Around the world, the products made in China are ________ in the shopping malls.

    A. unwelcome   B. expensive   C. popular   D. rare

2What is the Chinese meaning of the underlined word “brand” in the second paragraph?

    A. 品牌   B. 明星   C. 生产地   D. 树枝

3Why do Chinese Americans usually have a headache if they come back to China?

    A. Because their Chinese friends can not speak English.

    B. Because their friends will be unhappy if the gifts are made in China.

    C. Because they should give their friends rare gifts.

    D. Because they should give their friends fashionable gifts.

4How do other countries try to reduce the Chinese goods in their own countries?

    A. By developing the qualities of their own products.

    B. By telling their shoppers not to buy Chinese goods.

    C. By importing more Chinese goods.

    D. By using taxes and import restrictions.

5From the passage, we can know that________.

    A. products made in China are more and more popular all over the world

    B. TVs and fashionable clothes are ideal gifts for Chinese people

    C. everyone in China can speak English

    D. the other governments don’t welcome any Chinese goods

  • 26、Choose the best answer(根据短文内容,选择最恰当的答案)

Last summer, I began the biggest adventure of my life. I moved from a tiny city in England to one of the largest cities in the world.

As the plane landed in Beijing, I felt excited that I'd finally arrived after months of planning. One of the first things 1 did was visiting one of the city’s hutongs(胡同). Strolling (闲逛)around the narrow streets, the warm air was filled with the smell of delicious food as people played mahjong and rode their old-fashioned bikes . This was the first moment I thought, "Wow, I'm in China."

Beijing couldn't be more different to my own home city, Preston, which has a population of just 114,000. It has one shopping street that's around 500 meters from one end to the other and on Sunday, all the shops close at 4:00 pm. There isn't a great deal of choice when it comes to restaurants, either, and as a fan of food, I couldn't wait to see what Beijing has to offer. I still don't have a favorite dish here yet.

I'm slowly getting used to the fast-paced(快节奏的) lifestyle and different way of life , but I still find some habits here quite strange and humorous .

British people are raised to not make any sort of bodily noise at the dinner table or in public , so to hear the loud noise of Chinese diners or the throat-clearing(清嗓子) sounds of colleagues(同事) was a funny culture shock at first .

Something else I’ve discovered is the attention that being a foreigner brings. On the subway or in streets and restaurants, some people stare (盯着看) and try to take secret photos of me. It seems that I am a famous person or a popular star.

In the future, I hope to see many other parts of China. My dream is to buy a motorbike travel from one end to the other of this beautiful country, taking photos and meeting new people along the way.

My adventure in China is only just beginning, and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

2The author ______ when he first visited one of the city's Hutongs in Beijing.

C.he loved the food immediately D.he got used to the fast-paced lifestyle slowly

4______ are a culture shock to the author at first when he was in Beijing.

Taking pictures of foreigners   Clearing throat in the workplace

Playing mahjong in public area   Smiling kindly toward foreigners

Eating food with a loud noise

    A.①②③ B.①②⑤ C.②③④ D.③④⑤

5We can infer (推断)from the article that the author ______.

A.is a terrible motorbike rider B.is looking forward to becoming a famous person in China

C.has already visited many Chinese cities D.is interested in making new Chinese friends

6The article is mainly written to ______.

A.tell us about the author's travel plans in China

B.compare the lifestyle in Beijing with that in Preston

C.share the author's experience as a foreign visitor in China

D.tell us how he gets used to the life in China
