二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、From the functions and abilities provided by Artificial intelligence (AI人工智能), we have two different types of AI.

The first is weak AI. also known as narrow AI that is designed to perform a narrow task, such as Internet search or self-driving cars. Many currently existing systems which use “AI” are likely to work as a weak AI. Although this weak AI seems to be helpful to human living, there are still some people who think weak AI could be dangerous because weak AI could cause problems in electric grid (电网) when AI goes wrong.

The new development of the long-term goal of many researchers is to create strong AI, which is the intelligence of a machine that has the ability to understand or learn any intelligent task, thus helping people to settle the problem that they confront. Although narrow AI may work better than humans in some aspects, such as playing chess or solving math problems, its effect is still weak. Strong AI, however, could work better than humans at nearly every cognitive (认知的) task. Strong AI can be programmed to be a human mind, to be intelligent in whatever it is ordered to do. even to have beliefs that are usually only owned by humans.

Is AI really needed in human society? It depends. If human chooses a faster and more effective way to finish their work, yes, it is. However, if humankind is satisfied with natural way of living without other hopes, it is not. History tells us that human is always looking for something faster, easier, more effective and convenient to finish the task they work on; therefore, the pressure for further development encourages humankind to look for a new and better way of doing things, the process of which may be difficult, but it is meaningful.

【1】Why could weak AI be dangerous?

A.Because it could cause inconvenience sometimes.

B.Because it is very narrow when it goes wrong.

C.Because currently existing weak AI is not practical.

    D.Because it doesn’t work well when self-driving

【2】What does the underlined word “confront” in Para 3 probably mean?

    A.Debate

    B.Select.

    C.Contact.

    D.Face.

【3】Which of the following is true about strong AI?

    A.It can’t perform a narrow task well.

B.It can’t play chess as well as humans.

C.It can be programmed to be a human mind.

D.It can be programmed to complete all the tasks.

【4】What’s the author’s attitude to AI in human society?

    A.Doubtful.

    B.Positive.

    C.Negative.

    D.Unclear.

  • 28、We have come a long way from disliking graffiti to supporting colourful paintings in the streets. Cities such as Budapest are now appreciating urban art as a means to greyness. From 30 July to 31 August dozens of public walls will be painted during a whole festival dedicated to this open-air art.

The Colourful City Festival will have concerts, discussions and poetry slams on the program besides the painting, which will be recorded by Hungarian filmmakers.【1】That is why the organizers, Peter Flor and Andras Megyeri, are being supported by the Hungarian Tourism Ltd.

Gergely Horvath, president of the tourism body, said, “The event supports our aim to call out more to the younger touristic public, so we are backing it. We are hoping that more people will come to stay overnight, also outside the city limits. And we are hoping the event will get more focus in the media.【2】

Megyeri said the movement began by adopting the concept and name from a book by Hungarian-French artist Victor Vasarely with the same title in 1983. In it Vasarely demanded that artists bring out their art to the streets.

Sandor Finta, the Chief Architect of Budapest, added that we should not underestimate new dynamics such as paintings on fire walls. “Artists who make touristic attractions from simple grey fire walls are urban innovators,” he said. “Developing the city is our common cause, so we are happy to cooperate with them.”

District VII will be a central location of the festival. Mayor Zsolt Szikszai said politics must ensure that district is both attractive for tourists and good to live in for its residents.【3】

The curator of the festival, Noemi Nadudvari, said that abroad there is already a long tradition of painting large, empty walls. “Now finally a similar movement is starting here where we have good artists who have already participated at the Urban Art Festival in Munich or Berlin,”she said. “【4】

A.A film about the festival will be made.

B.As the mayor, he is deeply worried about the security of the district.

C.He supports the event because it stands for both aims.

D.The city will not only become more colourful, but it will be something more for tourists.

E.The festival will contribute to the development of all the participants.

F.We will let foreign journalists complete some of the paintings.

  • 29、Buddy or Friendship Benches (长椅)are needed because playgrounds can be lonely places sometimes. When a school places the bench, they teach a little lesson to the kids on how it is to be used. Then when a child sits on the bench, it sends out a message to others that basically says, “ Hey, I’m alone right now and would welcome the company (陪伴) of others.” Kids in the playground see this and from their training, they see there is a fellow student in need. They are encouraged to come over and sit on the bench and make a new friend.

Benches like this have been around for a while now in many schools. But in Ireland, they are trying to do something different with them. This school in Cork in the south of Ireland is the 247th to get benches from a social organization called “Buddy Bench Ireland” that doesn’t just provide schools with benches, but also runs special projects with trained child psychiatrists (精神病专家).They use the bench as an opportunity to start conversations about mental health. They talk about the importance of knowing and understanding your feelings and those of others.

Judith Ashton, a co-founder of Buddy Bench Ireland said, “The children need to understand what the bench is about, what it represents ----friendship, understanding, listening to each other and the most important thing is that it’s important to express feelings.”

But do children really use the bench? It’s a matter of great public concern. Sinead Mcgilloway from Maynooth University carried out a study and said, “ We found that 40% of the children told us that they had actually used the benches at the time of the study. And over 90% said that they would talk to a child if that child was sitting on the bench. So, there’s nothing to worry about.

Children’s mental health and safety at school is increasingly a concern in many countries. In Ireland, they’re hoping these benches will not only tackle problems like school violence and school bullying (校园暴力和校园欺凌), but also give students the confidence to open up about their feelings.

【1】According to the passage, buddy benches might _________.

    A.make students feel relaxed

    A.makes buddy benches more popular

B.brings more new-pattern benches to schools

    A.how to understand each other

    B.what buddy benches are about

    C.the importance of expressing themselves

D.the necessity of listening to their friends

【4】From what Sinead Mcgilloway said, we can know that _________.

四、短文填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 31、Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in each blank with a proper word given in the box. Each word can be used only once. Note that there is one more word than you need.

    New Year’s Resolutions (决心)

It’s January 1, the day when many people around the world announce their New Year’s resolutions. In theory, a new year should be the time when people change their habits. In  1, it doesn’t work that way.

There are some advantages to choosing January 1 to start new habits. For one thing, it comes right after several holidays. And for many people, holidays are  2with food, often food that isn’t very healthy. After a month or so of lots of eating, people begin to realize that they need to 3. It’s no wonder that losing weight is one of the most 4resolutions every year!

While many people’s 5to change is real, most New Year’s resolutions don’t last all year, or even all month. One survey indicated that the average resolution only lasts three and a half weeks! For many, an honest resolution might be: “I will eat healthy food until I start longing for dessert, and then I’ll go back to eating 6.”

One common problem with New Year’s resolutions is that they aren’t specific enough. Maybe you 7to eat healthier or be friendlier. But if you don’t have a plan, how will you know if you’ve reached your goal? Generally, resolutions tend to fade (渐弱) out of your  8. They’ll

return again the next year when you start 9about resolutions again.

Resolutions often 10, but don’t be discouraged. If there’s something you want to change about your life, it won’t hurt to try. And if you fail now, don’t worry. Lunar New year is right around the corner!

五、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 32、阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

It was dark outside, just after the dinner hour, when Benny Correa and Amanda Disley and their three kids climbed into their black Cadillac Escalade. As they prepared to leave the parking lot of the restaurant where they’d just eaten, a dark blue Honda Civic crossed their path.

“Look,” Correa shouted, “that’s that car! That’s that car!”

Earlier in the day, Disley had mentioned an Amber (安珀紧急通告) issued for a missing 11-year-old girl named Moccia. The car that passed them was the same make and model as the one that had been used in the kidnapping (绑架).

Correa followed the Honda in an effort to see the license plate (车牌). The driver immediately sped up and blew through a stop sign. Correa shocked his family by following suit. He wasn’t about to lose the Honda. “Being a father, I had to do what I had to do,” he told ABC News.

The Honda pulled around the back of a fruit store. “They’re trying to get out of me,” Correa yelled. When the Honda came around to the front, Correa caught up and pulled ahead, trying to cut it off. The Honda hit the brakes (刹车). The Cadillac’s high beams of light flashed on the driver — a young man with black hair, pulling a sweatshirt up over his face. They could see him forcing a girl’s head down in the back, as if trying to hide her.

Disley, who by then had called 911, was conveying their situation to the dispatcher (调度员). “It’s him!” she yelled into the phone. “The kidnapper!”

Confused, the dispatcher asked, “The blue Honda?”

    “Yes, it’s him!”

Correa stayed close behind the Honda. They were now racing down the road at 100mph. “He’s going through red lights!” Disley yelled to the dispatcher.

Correa hit the brakes to avoid an oncoming car and then hit the gas to catch up. “Get him, Dad!” his son shouted excitedly from the back. Keeping on the Honda’s tail, Correa discovered another problem: The low-gas light was flashing. Their car soon stopped. The Honda disappeared.

    Paragraph 1:

But thanks to Disley’s directions, the police had confirmed the path the kidnapper was taking.

To people’s relief, Moccia was saved eventually.
