二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   You may be familiar with the following famous people, but have you heard of their graduation speeches, in which they either share their unforgotten experiences or give you some great inspiration(灵感).

Michael Dell, University of Texas at Austin

And now you’ve accomplished something great and important here, and it’s time for you to move on to what’s next. And you must not let anything prevent you from taking those first steps. … You must also commit to the adventure. Just have faith in the skills and the knowledge you’ve been blessed(赐予) with and go.

    J.K. Rowling, Harvard University

Half my lifetime ago, I was striking an uneasy balance between my ambition and the expectation from my parents who were not rich…But what I feared most of myself at your age was not poverty, but failure. The fact that you are graduating from Harvard suggests that you know little about failure, you might be driven by a fear of failure quite as much as a desire for success.

    Steve Jobs, Stanford University

Sometimes life’s going to hit you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith…Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work, and the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking and don’t settle.

    Bill Gates, Harvard University

We need as many people as possible to have access to the advanced technology to lead to a revolution in what human beings can do for one another. They are making it possible not just for national governments, but for universities, smaller organizations, and even individuals to see problems, see approaches and deal with the world’s inequities(不公平) like hunger, poverty, and so on.

  • 27、How to Be Creative During Difficult Times

When we are struggling, or when we have a hard time focusing, we may turn to others for help. We may even wish we had a hero to help us. Well, today we offer you some advice.

Turn yourself into your own hero!

That is the idea behind Kendra Levin's self-help book The Hero Is You. When you make yourself a hero, you get not only a focus but also a purpose. 【1】 For example, it can give us hope as stories often do. In stories, writers often give their hero, the main person in the story, a purpose. 【2】

Write out your task and idea.

In stories, heroes also have a task—what they want to achieve—and an idea—what they see for themselves. Levin suggests that we write out our task and idea, not just for a project but for our lives as well. With a clear task and an idea, events in our lives no longer feel like separate events. 【3】 There's just a lot of value in having a task and an idea.

    Know your advantages and weaknesses.

【4】In difficult times, we can make our lives easier by focusing on our advantages. It is even more important to identify weaknesses. All heroes have them. On their journey they face their weaknesses and learn from them.

Have small goals within a larger goal.

Levin tells us that the hero's journey is not a one-time thing. 【5】 So, she suggests having small goals that you can measure in some way. Our life's journey is ongoing and ever-changing. We should be realistic with our goals and be kind to ourselves, especially during difficult times.

A.You can never really finish all tasks.

B.They become a part of our larger story.

C.It is a journey you are on your whole life.

D.When we know our advantages, we can use them fully.

E.Making ourselves the hero in our own story helps us in many ways.

F.The more we know about the world, the better we understand ourselves.

G.Levin suggests we do the same for ourselves and identify our purpose.

  • 28、Can dogs and cats live in perfect harmony in the same home? People who are thinking about adopting a dog as a friend for their cats are worried that they will fight. A recent research has found a new secret of success. According to the study, if the cat is adopted before the dog, and if they are introduced when still young (less than 6 months for cats, a year for dogs), it is highly likely that the two pets will get alongswimmingly. Twothirds of the homes interviewed reported a positive relationship between their cat and dog.

However, it wasn't all sweetness and light. There was a reported coldness between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes, while fighting were observed in 10% of the homes. One reason for this is probably that some of their body signals were just opposite. For example, when a cat turns its head away it signals attacking, while a dog doing the same signals giving in.

In homes with cats and dogs living peacefully, researchers observed a surprising behavior. They are learning how to talk each other's language. It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk “dog”and dogs can learn how to talk “cat”

What's interesting is that both cats and dogs have appeared to develop their intelligence. They can learn to read each other's body signals, suggesting that the two may have more in common than we previously thought. Once familiar with each other's presence and body language, cats and dogs can play together, greet each other nose to nose, and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa. They can easily share the same water bowl and in some cases groom (梳理) each other.

The meaning of this research on cats and dogs may go beyond pets—to people who don't get along, including neighbors, colleagues at work, and even world superpowers. If cats and dogs can learn to get along, surely people have a good chance.

    B. they look away from each other

3It is suggested in Paragraph 4 that cats and dogs   .

    A. have common interests

    B. are less different than what we thought

    C. have a common body language

    D. are less intelligent than what we expected

    4

    A. We should learn to live in harmony.

    B. We should know more about animals.

    C. We should live in peace with animals.

    D. We should learn more body languages.
