二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need.

    The Polities of Social Media

In recent years, social media has become the fastest way to reach the greatest number of people. 1 Because of this, politicians have started using it extensively to further their campaigns.

Initially, this sounds like a good idea. Politicians need to use methods that are familiar and relevant to voters, and social media is much more interactive than traditional campaign advertising. 2 By inter-acting on social media, politicians can find out what is truly important to constituents (选民). In a way, this makes the process even more democratic.

    3. In a US Senate election, a conservative organization conducted a campaign against the Democratic candidate Martha Coakley. It opened several fake accounts and sent out Twitter messages accusing her of accepting bribes, Twitter found out about it and shut the accounts down, but the messages had already reached over 60,000 people, and the result stayed in search engines even longer. She lost the election to the Republican candidate, and while there are other reasons that are likely to have influenced her loss, this shows how easily false information can spread.

Of course, the false information online doesn’t only come from politicians. There are a host of other ways news sources and advertisers try to influence our views. Even respected news sites such as CNN have used staged reports related to war news, just to create a greater sense of drama. 4. If you follow the news closely, it’s usually easy to see whether the news is more conservative or liberal leaning.

Does social media make politics more transparent or does it distort them even more? That may depend on what sites you read and how well you check your facts.

    A. Perhaps the speed and extent is all that has really changed.

    B. However, it can also be misused in a way that is far more effective than negative advertising.

    C. Most news outlets, while supposedly unbiased(无偏见的), do have certain political preference.

    D. If a politician does something ridiculous online, people notice and call them out on it.

    E. A tweet or video can reach hundreds of thousands in just a few hours.

    F. Users can comment on statements and make suggestions for new discussions.

  • 27、For people who are not self-disciplined, their life is full of pain, and all pain comes from their own inability. 【1】

So how do you achieve self-discipline?

Have control over body. Self-disciplined people will not be so bad; those who can lose weight successfully have high requirements for themselves. Health is the most important foundation of your self-discipline. 【2】 They work for one hour and charge for eight hours, and the efficiency is extremely low. If you don’t have time to exercise, you can only spend time seeing a doctor after the red light of your physical condition.

Have a good sense of time. The more self-disciplined you are, the more time you’ll have to manage. A precise schedule can save you a lot of unnecessary time costs. 【3】 The beauty of time front allows you to use more free time to read, exercise, master a skill, and severely surpass the person who is still sleeping in bed.

【4】 Self-disciplined people will not be willing to stay in the comfort zone, but will keep developing their own new field world with the mentality of giving it a try. Choosing ease and obeying instinct(本能)will bring the game of life to a dead end. And self-discipline may not always let you win. 【5】 If you decide that suffering is what you deserve, then the light will unavoidably come to you the same way.

    A.Have a feeling of freshness.

B.But it will never let you lose.

    C.Keep breaking personal ceiling.

D.People who do not work out are like a red light.

E.People who do not exercise are like an aging battery.

F.A self-disciplined person lives a particularly advanced and free life.

G.In addition, self-disciplined people will create time for themselves-get up early.

  • 28、When 1 speak to other parents about how responsible my kids are, I often get laughed at or they make a comment about how strict a parent I must be. Giving kids responsibilities is a must. It is parent’s job to make their kids become responsible adults and to prepare them for the real world and life as an adult.

Kids as young as toddlers (学走路的孩子) can be given small jobs to do and can help you around the house, in the garden, at the grocery store, etc. They can do little jobs like setting the table, helping to make the bed, washing dishes, washing the car and so on. When you let children do small jobs at a young age and make it fun, encourage, praise and thank them, it quickly becomes normal and a part of life. Kids who are given different responsibilities grow up with a much greater sense of self-worth, self-esteem and are more confident. As the children grow, their responsibilities grow and expand.

Doing everything for children or not allowing them to make mistakes and learn from them is not being a positive, responsible parent. The kids will more than likely end up with bad attitudes, and usually have no respect for their parents or other adults and at times have no respect for themselves. When your kids are ready to leave home, they should be responsible, capable and confident.

It is my opinion that parents arc to be thanked or to be blamed (责备) for just how kids take control of their lives. They are a product of their environment, mirroring what they have seen and what you have taught them. Parenting is the hardest job in the world and none of us are perfect, but it is our job!

【1】What do other parents think when the author says her child is responsible?

    A.They think it not rare.

    B.They think it acceptable.

    C.They think it not good.

    D.They think it lucky.

【2】Parents can make their kids become responsible by .

    A.making small jobs fun

B.giving them simple jobs to do

    C.praising and encouraging them

D.setting a good example to them

【3】We can learn from Paragraph 3 that doing everything for children .

    A.is bad for their development

    B.shows no respect for children

    C.is difficult for every parent

    D.shows parents’ responsibility

【4】What is the author’s purpose of writing the text?

A.To explain the responsibilities of parents.

B.To show her experience in raising children.

C.To advise parents to make children responsible.

D.To encourage kids to be responsible.

  • 29、Businessmen in New Zealand are working with American creators of some of Hollywood's most famous creatures to develop animatronic dolphins that look almost the same with their living counterparts (相对应的事物).

A robotic dolphin that can nod an answer to a child might sound unappealing or disturbing. But as marine parks around the world face increasing pressure to abandon exhibitions featuring real whales and dolphins, the creatures provide an appealing choice, their creators say.

But with a price tag of about NZ$40m (£20.8m) per dolphin, the biggest difficulty for the creators of the animatronic creatures is proving to potential clients that the robotic sea creatures will work out to be cheaper in the long run than the real thing.

Li Wang, a business developer for Edge Innovation, the New Zealand-based company making the case for the robots, said they do cost four times more than normal dolphins but would last longer.

Melanie Langlotz, one of the businessmen behind the project said, the prototype (原型) for the dolphin is indiscernible from the real thing. A test audience had been unable to guess the dolphin was not real, she added.

Animal rights advocates also welcomed the change. They hoped robotic dolphins would replace real ones in marine parks worldwide. In nature, dolphins swim up to 40 miles a day and live in close family groups, but in marine parks animals were limited to pools filled with chemically treated water and forced to interact with strangers. It’s hoped that in the near future, advanced technology might allow us to experience nature without harming it.

【1】What is the biggest problem for the creators of the animatronic creatures?

A.To make robotic creatures that are cheaper than real things in the future.

B.To prove the robotic sea creatures will be cheaper than real things in the long term.

C.To make people believe the robotic sea creatures will be the cheapest in the future.

D.To convince ordinary people to buy the robotic sea creatures.

【2】Which of the following word means the closest to the underlined word in Paragraph 5?

    A.different.

    B.identified.

    C.indistinguishable.

    D.noticeable.

【3】What can we learn from the last paragraph?

A.The robotic dolphins have replaced the real ones in marine parks.

B.Dolphins live freely and happily in nature.

C.The dolphins are well treated in the marine parks.

D.We’re experiencing nature without harming it.

【4】What is the purpose of this passage?

    A.To introduce a robotic sea creature—animatronic dolphin.

B.To introduce the current threats of the sea creatures.

C.To introduce the difficulty of creating the robotic sea creature.

D.To introduce the development of advanced technologies.
