二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   When you take a closer look at the photos of the 36 contestants for CCTV 3’s talent show Bravo Youngsters , you may find something different.

Ling, one contestant on the show, is seemingly perfect. The 25-year-old Beijing woman is a social media influencer, whose realistic appearance is computer generated (生成).

Yet Ling behaves like an actual human social media star. She attends fashion events, promotes designer clothes and brands, and shares her life on Sina Weibo.

“I love traditional Chinese culture, especially Peking Opera, calligraphy and tai chi. I hope that I can interpret (阐释) these art forms in my own way on the stage,” Ling posted on her weibo account on Nov 22.

Actually, Ling herself is the best illustration of her love for Chinese traditional culture.

Her name, Ling, comes from the feathered headdress (头饰) worn in Peking Opera. Her voice in the talent show follows the school (流派) of the late Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang. And her face is even designed to look good while wearing Peking Opera makeup.

According to Chen Yan, founder of Beijing Next Generation Culture Media, the company behind Ling, they aimed to build the virtual idol (虚拟偶像) into a web influencer interested in guofeng (Chinese national style).

Chen Zhe from the company Frees Fund, believes that the rise of virtual influencers will bring opportunities.

“They have great advantages. Unlike human influencers who will get old, or may become involved in some sort of scandal (丑闻), digital influencers are young, flexible, manageable and controllable,” he said.

Chen Yan also pointed out that although influencers like Ling are virtual, their influence is real. Like it or not, they will bring big changes to the entertainment and fashion industries in the near future.

1What sets Ling apart from the other contestants?

A.Her popularity on social media. B.Her computer-generated existence.

C.Her seemingly perfect appearance. D.Her love for designing clothes.

2Why is Ling considered the best illustration of her love for Chinese traditional culture?

A.Ling performs Peking Opera on the show.

B.Ling dresses up like a Peking Opera singer.

C.She displays various Chinese cultural elements.

D.Ling likes promoting Chinese culture in the virtual world.

3What advantage do virtual idols have over human influencers?

A.They are more attractive and talented.

B.They act flexibly in different situations.

C.They can be controlled and managed easily.

D.They can impact the entertainment and fashion industries.

  • 27、Many social study books and articles have graphs to go with the text.A graph is a kind of picture that shows amounts or numbers at a glance.A graph can show the same information that is in the text, but it helps you “picture” the information and makes it easier to understand and quicker to read.A circle graph, also called a pie graph,is divided into “slices”. Step 3: Use the label (标签) to find out what is being compared. The labels on the graph name the groups of people who live in Washington,D.C. A line connects the corresponding(相应的)part of the graph.

Step 4: Read the introduction to the graph. The passage beside the graph may offer some more detailed information of the topic.

  • 28、When it comes to perfect views, it really does take a village. Searching for the most camera-ready communities on the planet, we found four villages that fit the bill. Spend a few minutes there and you will realize that “quaint (古色古香的)” and “charming (有魅力的)” aren’t just adjectives; they are a way of life.

    Sidi Bou Said in Tunisia

The village seems to disappear into the sky and the blue horizon. All the houses are painted white, the skies are clear, and the backdrop includes the Bay of Tunis which is only in a deeper shade of blue. It’s not surprising that the atmosphere here is a bit random, and it is also home to plenty of lively cafes and art galleries.

    Wengen in Switzerland

Wonder how the world was before cars were invented? Wengen, a Switzerland’s village might just help you realize your dreams. Cars have been banned from this area for close to 100 years. Imagine seeing woods all around you, snow peaked mountains, log cabins and locals who have kept their Swiss culture undamaged.

    Eze in France

France’s most attractive village is Eze. Seemingly frozen in time, Eze has managed to keep its old-world charm. It is the perfect melting pot of cultures because of its closeness to Nice, and today the village enjoys its rich heritage. The architecture here is so special that Walt Disney frequented this village for inspiration.

    Bibury in England

Bibury was described by William Morris as the most beautiful village in England—known for its watercolor views. The 17th-century stone cottages and a still-working 1902 farm are some of the ancient village’s must-sees.

【1】Which is not allowed to do for tourists in Wengen?

    A.Traveling around by car.

    B.Viewing woods everywhere.

    C.Leaning about Swiss culture.

    D.Appreciating snowy mountains.

【2】Which village did Walt Disney often visit to get inspired?

    A.Sidi Bou Said in Tunisia.

    B.Wengen in Switzerland.

    C.Eze in France.

    D.Bibury in England.

【3】What do the four villages have in common?

    A.Each has modern architecture.

B.They are all situated by the sea.

    C.They have beautiful stone cottages.

D.Each owns ancient but amazing scenery.

  • 29、The urgency of vaccination against COVID-19 is growing. Some new variants of the virus, spotted in Britain and other countries, are spreading around the world. Although they do not seem to be more deadly, they are a lot more infectious, threatening to overwhelm hospitals with patients too numerous to be treated.

Salvation (救助) lies in rapid vaccination. It is a test of public health. When the logistics (后勤) are guaranteed, as eventually they would be, the limiting factor will be how much vaccine is available. Pfizer, Moderna and Astra Zeneca could provide a large dose in 2021, enough for around 2.5 billion people. However, much more is needed, including over a billion doses of Sputnik V from Russia, and two vaccines from China.

Both countries have offered vaccines widely. However, to fulfill their potential, they need to be licensed by an independent, strict regulator from another country or by the World Health Organization (WHO). If countries sidestep licensing, few people will trust vaccines to stop the virus. If they are licensed without proper trials, vaccination in general may be discredited.

Another way to stretch supplies is to administer more first doses by delaying the booster. Critics argued that the vaccine might be less effective, which would weaken confidence in vaccination, and that exposure to partially protected people may help the virus acquire resistance. Supporters said they had evidence that delayed boosters would work and that immunology suggests people would retain plenty of protection against the virus. To resolve this dispute requires real-world trails. Until such evidence has been collected, WHO has rightly discouraged countries from delaying boosters except in the most desperate circumstances.

Vaccination is also a test of whether the world can work together to confront common threats. Modelling suggests that an ideal global distribution of vaccine according to need could save one and a half times as many lives as focusing supplies on rich countries alone. The Pfizer and, to a lesser extent, Moderna vaccines require ultra-cold storage that many low-and middle-income countries lack. But by that logic, countries with more vaccines per person should release cheaper vaccines that tolerate higher temperatures.

In this they should work through COVAX, a mechanism for pooling the purchasing and fair distribution of vaccines. It hopes to allocate almost 2 billion doses this year. COVAX hopes to inoculate (接种) the world’s 100 million or so health-care workers by summer. Then it needs to find ways to distribute vaccines by need, which varies from country to country.

【1】What can we infer from the second paragraph?

A.There are not enough vaccines available.

B.The production efficiency between countries is different.

C.It becomes more urgent to improve the safety of vaccines.

D.Medical technologies around the world are not yet guaranteed.

【2】What does the underlined word “sidestep” in the third paragraph mean?

    A.Stop.

    B.Avoid.

    C.Finish.

    D.Consider.

【3】What does WHO think of delaying the booster?

A.It believes this can protect people from the virus.

B.It disapproves of delaying boosters in normal cases.

C.It thinks this will shake people’s faith in vaccination.

D.It considers delaying boosters as a mature practice in hospitals.

【4】What do we know about COVAX?

A.It gives permission to produce vaccines.

    B.It’s a manufacturer that produces COVID-19 vaccines.

C.Its primary task is to give vaccines to health-care workers.

D.It’s a program to allocate vaccines globally by demand.
