二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Today show's Kathie Lee Gifford is hoping to bring the story of David to a new generation with her latest musical project, The Little Giant.

The 13-song album tells the story of the shepherd (牧羊人) boy who defeated a giant with five stones and a slingshot and became a king. The idea of the record came after Gifford and her husband Frank went on a life-changing trip to the Holy Land in 2012.

Gifford hoped to shine light on David's story to help a new generation find their own purpose; it's why she decided to compose this album that invites kids to hear the tale of the shepherd in a fun and educational way. Gifford based the record's opening track What is Your Stone on bravery and faith. She hopes the songs can help children find confidence in themselves.

Though the album is aimed towards families and children, Gifford found recording the story of David to be an exercise in healing after the death of her beloved husband Frank who passed away two years ago.

"I catch myself saying that I lost him sometimes," Gifford says, "No, he hasn't been gone. The trip took root in my husband's life, because he truly came to understand exactly what David did."

Gifford says the trip and the teachings stayed with her husband until his death. For the next three years, when people came to visit us, they’d always see Frank's trophy (奖杯) room because it's like a museum," Gifford explained. "He would take them over. Instead of all of his trophies, he would point to the stones we brought back from the travelling destination and talk about them. "

Gifford expects her own journey, her new album and her commitment to bringing a bit of joy to people through her show can help inspire children to discover their own faith and purpose.

1What was Gifford's main intention of making the album?

    A. To honor the meaningful trip.

    B. To show her love to her husband.

    C. To help children find faith and purpose.

    D. To make children understand David's story.

2How did the album benefit Gifford?

    A. It made her become a superstar.

    B. It made her win lots of trophies.

    C. It helped her plan to have a trip to the Holy Land.

    D. It helped her recover from the pain of losing Frank.

3What does the underlined word "them" in paragraph 6 refer to?

    A. The visitors.   B. The stones.   C. The trophies.   D. The trips.

4What do we know from the text?

    A. David was the hero of many children.

    B. Gifford finished recording the album in 2012.

    C. Frank had won much glory when he was alive.

    D. The author liked Gifford's songs very much.

  • 22、   The beginning of baseball in China traces back further than most would think, in 1863. From that time, Chinese universities soon began to stage baseball activities. The first game, as documents recorded, was held in Shanghai in 1905. National interest in this traditionally American sport picked up quickly, and in 1915, China placed second in the Greater Asia baseball tournament held in Shanghai. Several decades later, baseball was as popular as it would ever be. In 1959,teams from 30 regions came together in a national competition.

Founded in 2002, the China Baseball League (CBL) is China’s professional league for the sport, with seven teams around the country. The opportunity to capture a huge new market with China’s growing interest saw the US Major League Baseball (MLB) open its first China office in Beijing in 2007, which has since then developed the Chinese market and educated young athletes. An example is the youth baseball program Play Ball in major Chinese cities. In the same year, the CBL partnered with Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), agreeing to allow Japanese clubs to send coaches and players to China and Chinese players to train at Japanese facilities. This program helps Chinese schools integrate baseball into their physical education curriculum, build professional development centers. More and more Chinese youths are getting involved with the sport, taking baseball class on the weekends or after school. Many programs for children have been established and often hold classes at many baseball fields.

Through these different partnerships and co-operations, China has created opportunities for the citizens to experience another culture. China might just be the future of baseball. Through heavy investments since 2017, the CBL hopes to one day cultivate a Yao Ming of baseball, which would bring huge exposure to the sport.

1What’s the main idea of paragraph 1?

A.The beginning of baseball in China.

B.The development of baseball in China.

C.The national competition of baseball in China.

D.The interest in this traditionally American sport.

2How does the writer develop this text?

    A.By the time order.

    B.By the cities adding.

    C.By China’s interest growing.

    D.By partner countries increasing.

3Which of the following can replace the underlined word "capture" in paragraph 2?

    A.lose. B.found.

    C.seize. D.control.

4What can we predict from paragraph3?

A.Baseball remains a mystery to most of Chinese people.

B.The interest in developing baseball is limited in China.

C.Chinese schools will have baseball education curriculum.

D.More baseball talents and fans will spring up in China.

  • 23、   Canada is a bilingual country with "co-official " languages. English and French enjoy equal status as the official languages of all government agencies in Canada. This means that the public has the right to communicate with and receive services from government in either English or French. Government employees have the right to work in the official language of their choice in certain bilingual regions.

Like the United States, Canada started as a colony. Beginning in the 1500s it was part of New France but later became a British colony after the Seven Years’  War. As a result, the Canadian government recognized the languages of both colonizers: France and England. The Constitution (宪法)Act of 1867 admitted the use of both languages in federal courts. Years later, Canada strengthened its commitment to bilingualism when it passed the Official Languages Act of 1969, which reconfirmed the constitutional origins of its co official languages.

Recognition of both English and French protects the rights of all Canadians. Among other benefits, the 1969 Act recognized the Canadian citizens should be able to access federal laws and government documents, whether their native language was French or English. The general law also requires that consumer products feature bilingual packaging throughout the country.

The Canadian government is committed to advancing the equality and the use of English and French and provides support to the development of English and French minority communities. However, the reality is that most Canadians speak English, and of course, many Canadians speak another language entirely.

Although the federal government theoretically guarantees bilingual services in all areas, there are many regions where English is the clear majority language so the government does not offer services in French in those regions. Canadians use the phrase "where numbers justify "to indicate whether a local populations language requires bilingual services from the government.

While many Canadians are bilingual in English and French, Statistics. Canada finds that over 200 other languages were reported as a language spoken by its people. About two-thirds of the respondents who spoke one of these languages also spoke either English or French

1Why are two official languages accepted in Canada?

    A. The language-using tradition caused by Canada's colonial history

    B. The theoretical commitment made by Canadian courts in the past

    C. The welcome attitude towards people coming from all over the world

    D. The mastery of two languages of Canadians because of school education

2What is the current situation of official languages in Canada?

    A. People speaking English are superior because of their access to federal laws

    B. Federal governments have to provide bilingual services to all citizens in Canada

    C. French minority communities are given more support due to their language-using history

    D. There are more people speaking English than French in some parts of Canada

3What can we infer from the passage?

    A. The legal court usage of French and English was established in Canada in 1969.

    B. Some Canadians in certain districts might speak neither English nor French

    C. Either French or English should be used on products in Canada according to the law

    D. English has gained superior legal position to French because of bigger users in Canada

4Which is the best title of the passage?

    A. The Official Languages in Canada   B. Canada, a Multiple-language Land

    C. Balancing English and French in Canada   D. Advancing English and French in Canada

  • 24、When it comes to the beaches in Sydney, it's hard to know where to begin. Around 100 beaches spread around the harbor and along the coast. Here are four of them.

    Bronte Beach

Bronte's sea pool offers a protected ocean swim and is regarded as one of the best in Sydney—and much like beach culture itself, it's free. The nearby parkland has spacious barbecue areas for family gatherings. On public holidays, the park becomes a sea of busy people as parties take place.

    Balmoral

Balmoral, on the north shore's Middle Harbor near Taronga Zoo, has an air of peace. Life moves at a more leisurely pace here. If it's loudness and pride you're after, this isn't it. What Balmoral does have overall is impressive views. And its calmness makes it a great swimming spot for families.

    Garie Beach

Located in the Royal National Park, 54 kilometers south of Sydney, Garie Beach is accessible through Garie Road and isn't one for beach-lovers without a car. The large beach is very impressive, though. It's well preserved and is the perfect spot for a relaxing day away from the city. The facilities are top-grade and there is a great fishing spot off the east-facing rocks.

    North Narrabeen Beach

Having some of the best and most consistent surf, the beach attracts board lovers from all over Sydney. Surfers have no discomfort making the 25-kilometer trip north to get to the three-kilometer-long beach. The northern end of the vast beach is protected from the northeasterly winds and is a surfer's destination, while the rest of it is ideal for swimming.

【1】What do Bronte Beach and Balmoral have in common?

    A.They are both family-friendly

B.They both charge no admission fee.

C.They both allow of a feeling of peace.

D.They are both most visited during holidays

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

The production of fine art is the use of skill and imagination to create aesthetic objects or experiences which can be shared with other people. Photography is thought by some to be a form of fine art; however, others claim that photography is not.

Those who believe that photography is not a form of art present several arguments. They claim a photograph is nothing but an objective record of a particular place at a particular time. Therefore, any beauty that is perceived in the picture is the beauty of the time and place where it was taken, and is not the creation of the photographer. They also argue that sophisticated and expensive equipment often plays a greater role in the success of a photograph than the photographer’s creativity. Even some of the greatest photographers acknowledge that there is a limit to the amount of influence they can have on a final product.

However, there are also many reasons why photography is appreciated on the same level as other recognized forms of visual art. The decisions involved in creating a photograph are analogous to those made by any other artist. A photograph is not just a banal record of the world, but a deliberately created image with its own artistic features. Ansel Adams, the American photographer, commented on this point when he noted: ‘You don’t take a photograph, you make it.’ There is a growing trend for photographers to call themselves artists and their photos are sold for millions of dollars. However, these high prices may not be enough to change people’s perceptions of whether photography is art.

The arguments about whether photography is art have been discussed since the earliest cameras were used. The creative process involved in taking a fine photograph, deciding what, when and how the picture should be taken, is certainly similar to the process of making fine art. However, cameras are also increasingly used to take photographs for non-artistic functions. Although we cannot say that photography itself is necessarily art, we can certainly see that it is a medium that can be used to make art.
