二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、(You may read the questions first.)

    Four types of learners

    Type A Learner

People in this group adapt observations into complex but logical theories. They think problems through in a logical way. They tend to be perfectionists who won’t rest easy until everything is reasonable. They like to analyze and are keen on basic principles and theories. They pay great attention to logic, so questions they frequently ask are: “ ________________ ”, and “How does this go with that?”. They tend to be objective, approaching problems in a consistently logical manner. This is their “mental set” and they reject anything that conflicts with it. They prefer to maximize certainty and feel uncomfortable with subjective judgements.

    Type B Learner

These people are keen on trying out ideas, theories and techniques to see if they work in practice. They positively search out new ideas and take the first opportunity to experiment with applications. They want to try out the new ideas in the courses in practice. They also tend to be impatient with random discussions, and their attention soon begins to wander if they feel they are going round in circles. They are practical, down to earth and like making practical decisions and solving problems. They see problems and opportunities as a challenge, and their philosophy is: “There is always a better way” and “If it works, it’s good”.

    Type C Learner

People in this group involve themselves fully in new experiences. They are open-minded, and this tends to make them enthusiastic about anything new. Their philosophy is: “I’ll try anything once”, so they tend to act first and consider the consequences afterwards. Their days are filled with activities. As soon as the excitement from one activity has died down they are busy looking for the next, as they are only interested in gaining new experiences but are bored with carrying out their plans and they lack perseverance. They constantly involve themselves with others but, in doing so, they seek to center all activities around themselves.

    Type D Learner

They collect data, both first-hand and from others, and prefer to think about it thoroughly before coming to a conclusion. The thorough collection and analysis of data about experiences and events is what counts so they tend to postpone making definitive judgments for as long as possible. Their philosophy is to be cautious. They like to consider all possible angles before making a move, and will be reluctant to become involved in activities that others put forward without having carefully considered the likely outcome.

【1】Which of the following can be put into the blank in the first paragraph?

    A.Do we need more experiments?

    B.Do you understand me?

    C.Do you believe the theory?

    D.Does it make sense?

【2】Suppose John is a person with fresh ideas and willing to check everything out to see what happens. Which type of learner is John?

    A.Type A Learner

    B.Type B Learner

    C.Type C Learner

    D.Type D Learner

【3】Which of the following is NOT true about Type D learner?

A.They are keen on making immediate conclusion.

B.Their conclusion comes after data analysis.

C.They outline a possible outcome before taking an activity.

D.They prefer not to give out their viewpoints randomly.

  • 22、   Katherine Rooks remembers when she first learned that a punctuation mark could be so powerful The Denver-based writer had sent her high school-aged son a text message-coming home from school. “I could tell from his response that he was offended all of a sudden. And when he came home, he walked in the door, came over and said, ‘What did you mean by this?’” Rooks was confused how could a simple text message send confusion?

“And so we looked at the text together and I said, ‘Well, I meant, see you later, or something. I don’t remember exactly what it said.’ And he said, ‘But you ended with a period! I thought you were really angry!’” Rooks wasn’t angry, and she explained to her son that periods are how you end a sentence.

But in text messaging—at least for younger adults—periods do more than just end a sentence: they also can set a tone. Gretchen McCulloch, a linguist said that when it comes to text messaging, the period has lost its original purpose because rather than needing a symbol to indicate the end of a sentence, you can simply hit send at the end of your message. That doesn’t mean the period has lost all purposes in text messaging. Now it can be used to indicate the gravity of a situation or a sense of finality.

However, caution is needed, said McCulloch, noting that problems can start to arise when you combine a period with a positive emotion, such as “Sure.” or “Sounds good.” “Now you’ve got positive words and serious punctuation and the clash between them is what creates that sense of passive-aggression,” said McCulloch.

Our language has evolved, and “what we have done with our incredible linguistic genius is finding ways to insert some kind of emotional, interpersonal information into texting,” said Celia Klin, a psychology professor at Binghamton University. “And what we have is things like periods, emoticons and other kinds of punctuation. So people have repurposed the period to mean something else.” And that something else is passive-aggression.

【1】What left Rooks at a loss?

    A.Her son’s untimely coming home.

B.Her son’s heavy reliance on text messages.

C.Her son’s inability to adapt to high school life.

D.Her son’s unexpected reaction to the message.

【2】What did the son think of the period?

    A.It aroused his anger.

    B.It meant seriousness to him.

    C.It brought embarrassment to him.

D.It appeared in an improper position.

【3】What does the underlined word “clash” in paragraph 4 mean?

    A.Interval.

    B.Exchange.

    C.Mismatch.

    D.Association.

【4】Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

    A.The basic rules of punctuation

    C.A debate about language evolution

    D.Parents trouble with passive-aggression

  • 24、The summer is so hot and sticky, why would we want to sweat even more by exercising? Or is it just I who think like that? Sweat and clothes sticking to our bodies as we move make exercise seem rather uncomfortable. What can be done to fix it?

Researchers at MIT have come up with a solution. They’ve developed a workout suit with flaps that open as the wearer begins sweating. As the person cools off, the flaps shrink until they assume their original position.

Sounds cool, sounds practical. These flaps are lined with live, microbial ( 微生物的)cells. These cells can detect when the body is heating up too much, and in response, expand. It’s just as if they were working within any other organism, recognizing patterns of heating and cooling, then responding appropriately to maintain body temperature. It seems kind of strange to have living cells (that aren’t your own) on you, right? Not to fear, these cells have been believed safe. Plus, there’s a material in the suit that helps the flaps/cells hover ever so slightly above the exerciser's skin. The flaps start opening as soon as people start feeling warm and sweaty, and the bit of space between the suit and the skin helps develop that feeling of cool and refreshing air as they move. For more information about flaps, click here.

According to Gadgetify.com, researchers have also been working to apply this technology to running shoes as well. Moisture-responsive workout clothing has the potential to revolutionize sport fashion industry. People can stay drier, cooler and fresher at the end of the workout, which sounds better than leaving the gym with a trail of sweat and a red face. It’s possible that the comfort of these suits can make people enjoy exercising more and exercise with more intensity.

【1】What’s the purpose of the first paragraph?

    A.To introduce the topic.

B.To show his dislike of summer.

    C.To give an example.

    D.To tell of his dream.

【2】What can’t be learned from the passage?

A.When a person doesn’t sweat, the flaps will come to its original position.

B.The flaps themselves can float slightly around the exerciser’s skin.

C.When a person sweats, the flaps will expand.

D.The flaps are essential to cooling exercisers down.

【3】What’s mainly talked about in the last paragraph?

    A.The influence of the technology.

    B.The efficiency of the technology.

    C.Different reviews on the technology.

    D.Author’s attitude to the technology.

【4】Where does the essay come from?

    A.Magazine

    B.Newspaper

    C.Brochure

    D.Website

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、Directions: Read the following three passages. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

Winter sports can help you burn calories, increase your cardiovascular fitness, and strengthen muscles. Being outdoors and getting exercise are great for your mental health. Exercise boosts mood, and sunlight seems to help beat back the winter blues. So slap on some sunblock and go.

Winter is a great time to experiment with new sports. If you like to walk, keep walking-on snowshoes. If you want to try an endurance sport, go for cross-country skiing. And snowboarding is just plain fun. Runners can also train during the winter, although beware of wet or slippery roads. Or slip on a pair of snowshoes. One of the easiest sports around, snowshoeing can be excellent cold-weather cross-training for runners and cyclists - or anyone wanting to take a wintry walk in the woods.

Whatever sport you choose, don't rely on a friend for instruction. You wouldn't let an amateur perform brain surgery on you; why let one teach you to ski or skate? That's what instructors are for- to help newcomers start out right. Instructors can give you advice about equipment, techniques, safety, and dealing with injuries if they do happen you.

It's tempting for an eager athlete to advance too quickly through learning the ropes. Resist the temptation. If you want to progress, invest your time in learning the basics thoroughly. Everything else you do as a skier, boarder, or skater will be built on these first skills.

Play safely by figuring out what, special equipment and safety gear you'll need. Planning an afternoon of snowshoeing or cross-country skiing? Pack water, snacks, fruit, and extra socks. If you're going out for a long time, keep your water bottle insulated from the cold so it doesn't freeze.

Don't head out onto the slopes or into remote country areas alone. Always go with a buddy and tell a friend what time you plan on returning. If you get in trouble and don't show up when you are supposed to, your friend has your back.
