27、 The Docklands Light Railway(DLR) took just three years to build at a cost of £77 million. It is London’s first Light Rail System, but its route follows that of a number of older lines, which carried the nineteenth century railways through the crowded districts of the East End.
The section of the line from the Tower Gateway Station to Poplar follows the line of one of London’s earliest railways, the London & Blackwell(1840), a cable-drawn railway(later converted to steam) which carried passengers to steam ships at Blackwell Pier, and provided transport for the messengers and clerks who went backwards and forwards between the docks and the city every day.
From Poplar to Island Gardens, a new line crosses high above the dock waters, and then joins the old track of the Millwall Extension Railway, built to service the Millwall Docks(1868) and to provide transport for workers in the local factories. This line was horse-drawn for part of its route, until the 1880s.
The Poplar to Stratford section of the DLR route was first developed by the North London Railway, built in the 1850s to link the West and East India Docks with the manufacturing districts of the Midlands and North of England. There were major railway works and sidings(岔线) at Bow until recently.
The trains are automatically controlled from a central computer, which deals with all signaling and other safety factors, as well as adjusting speeds to keep within the timetable; on board each vehicle, Train Captains, who are also fully qualified drivers, are equipped with two-way radios to maintain contact with central control. There are passenger lifts, and self-service ticket machines, at every station.

A.make the transport of goods easier B.encourage trade abroad
C.promote the transport in England D.create employment at home
【3】The trains on the DLR are controlled by ______.
A.drivers on the trains themselves B.two-way radios operated by the drivers
C.a computer on board the train D.a computer based elsewhere
28、If you don’t know what to watch on Friday night, look no further than this list of the top 3 movie recommendation engines. They all offer something different. If you want to exchange thoughts about what we offer on our website, just contact us through e-mail.
Top 3. Nanocrowd. The site goes well beyond a simple search engine like Netflix. Nanocrowd allows you to drill down into a more refined search. On the results page, you click which three-word category you prefer, based on keywords related to the movie you input into the search field, and Nanocrowd immediately refines your search to get the best film for you.
Top 2. Taste Kid. It’s simple enough. You input a film you like and it returns results that offer similar action to your favorites. But it goes beyond just movies. If you really like “The Godfather”, Taste Kid fills you in on what kind of bands you’ll like to listen to, books you’ll want to read, and “other stuff” that’s related to that film. Taste Kid is a full entertainment recommendation engine.
Top 1. Jinni Jinni. Whether you want to search for films in the search field or you want to find films based on your mood, time available, setting, or reviews, the site has it all. I searched for movies based on my mood and followed that with a search based on my plot preference. Each time, films that I’ve watched and loved in the past, or that I haven’t watched but definitely want to see popped up. But perhaps the most competitive feature that Jinni offers is its plot search. You can input terms like, “movies that have gangsters” or “films that show Chris Farley yelling” and the site will return films that match your question.
【1】If you seek relevant information about a film, ________ can be a good choice.
A.Jinni Jinni

29、 It can’t be easy playing the movie version of a noble real-life figure like Sergio Vieira de Mello, the UN diplomat from Brazil who in career devoted to humanitarian (人道主义) efforts, died in the 2003 terrorist bombing of the Canal Hotel in Baghdad. But in Sergio, director Greg Barker’s drama about the last years of Sergio’s life, Wagner Moura (from Netflix’s Narcos) gives it his all.
Sergio was sent to Irag in 2003 as the Special Representative of the U.N. Secretary-General to help the country move forward after the fall of Saddam Hussein. In an early scene, we see Moura’s Sergio and his small followers rolling up to the hotel that will serve as headquarters for what’s intended to be a four-month assignment. They’re greeted by U.S. troops who have been assigned to protect them, but whose every presence speaks of menace and mistrust, Sergio leaves his vehicle and approaches one of the soldiers for what looks like a friendly conversation but we don’t hear what he’s saying.
That moment will be vital, but we don’t understand its meaning until near the end of Sergio. This is a short description of one man’s life of service to the world. The film also covers Sergio’s time in East Timor, where, seemingly against all difficulties, he assisted with the country’s independence from Indonesia. And it’s there that he meets and falls in love with Carolina Larriera (Ana de Armas), who will accompany him to Bagdad on his last, fatal mission.
Sergio’s intentions are pure, and the movie is pleasingly old-school in the way it combines political drama—and tragedy—with romance. Moura makes us see the shining role model, but it’s much harder to see the man underneath—and you can’t leave a property without first having had a heartbreak.
【1】Which of the following is true about the movie?
A.Sergio Vieira de Mello stars in the movie.
B.Greg Barker is the director of the movie.
C.The movie focuses on love and friendship
D.Wagner Moura is a man hard to understand.

A.Fear. B.Caution. C.Sympathy. D.Threat.
【3】Where did Sergio meet Carolina Larriera?
A.In Indonesia. B.In Baghdad. C.In East Timor. D.In Brazil.
【4】What is the best title for this passage?
A.A Noble Sergio. B.A Devoted Soldier.
C.A Movie Review. D.A Critical Moment.

I have the【1】(great)job in the world. I travel to unusual places and work alongside people from all over the world. Sometimes using【2】(science)equipment and sometimes meeting local people and tourists, I am never【3】(bore).Although my job is occasionally dangerous, I don’t mind because danger excites me and makes me feel alive. However, the most important thing about my job is that I help protect ordinary people【4】 one of the most powerful forces on earth—the volcano.
B
Water is a precious resource. Every person needs it【5】 (survive),and we use it for cooking, drinking, growing our food and washing. However,it is scarce(缺乏的).Just 1% of water on Earth can【6】 (use)by humans. What’s more, treating water to make it clean and safe and pumping it to our homes uses up lots of energy. So, what can you do to help save water? One easy way is by【7】(turn)off the tap when you brush your teeth.
C

35、Directions: Complete the following sentences by using the proper form of the words or expressions given in the frame. Each one can only be used once.
Why your Password May Not Be As Safe As It Seems? Does “qaz2ws” strike you as a nice safe password? What about “adgjmptw”? An analysis has found them to be among the passwords that are most 【1】 used, which of course means they are not secure at all.
When ten million passwords were leaked on to the internet, they appeared to 【2】that attempts by internet security experts to make us improve our password strength had been successful, even if, in the specific case of the leaked passwords, they are also completely pointless.
While many of the passwords were still single words, such as “password”,there was also a clear attempt by many to make them harder to【3】. The problem was that people seemed to do so in the same way.
“Users are becoming slightly more 【4】what makes a password strong,” explained WP Engine, an internet company that performed the analysis. “For instance, adding a number or two at the end of a text phrase. That makes it better, right?”
But 【5】no. They found that almost half a million passwords did this and in 20 percent of those all people did was put the number “1” at the end.
Perhaps this is why some companies are now trying to move gradually beyond passwords. Yahoo! is giving users the option to 【6】 their mobile phone with an account, having a single use passwords texted to it each time they want to log on.
Although the serviced is voluntary, Dylan Casey an executive at Yahoo!,said that it was “the first step to【7】passwords”. He said it was a(n)【8】that it was increasingly hard for people to remember all the passwords they had. “I don’t think we, as an industry, have done a good enough job of putting ourselves in the shoes of the people using our products,” he said.
It would certainly be a more sensible strategy than same people’s improving upon “password” by using “password” or,“tran5p053d numb3r5 f0r 133tr3r5”.
“We are, for the most part,predictably【9】when it comes to choosing passwords, despite a decade of warnings from password strength checkers during sign-ups” said WP Engine. “We love taking a(n) 【10】, and so do password crackers.

The Internet E-commerce and globalization are making a new economic age possible. In the future, capitalist markets will largely be replaced by a new kind of economic system based on 【1】 relationships, contractual arrangements and access rights.
Has the quality of our lives at work, at home and in our communities increased in direct proportion to all the new Internet and business-to-business Internet services being introduced into our lives? I have asked this question of hundreds of CEOs and corporate executives in Europe and the United States. Surprisingly, virtually everyone has said, “No, quiet 【2】.” They say they are working longer hours, feel more stressed, are more impatient, and are even less civil in their dealings with colleagues and friends-not to mention strangers. And what’s more revealing, they place much of the blame on the very same technologies they are so 【3】 supporting.
The technological leader promised us that access would make life more convenient. Instead, the very technological wonders that were supposed to 【4】 us have begun to enslave us in a web of connections from which there seems to be no easy 【5】.
If an earlier generation was preoccupied with the quest to enclose a vast 【6】 land, the .com generation, it seems, is more caught up in the colonization of time. Every spare moment of our time is being filled with some form of commercial connection, making time itself the 【7】 of all resources.
And while we have created every kind of labor-and time-saving device to service our needs, we are beginning to feel like we have less time available to us than any other humans in history. Maybe we need to ask what kinds of connections really 【8】 in the e-economy age. If this new technology 【9】 is only about super efficiency, then we risk losing something even precious than time-our sense of what it means to be a(n) 【10】 human being.
37、阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
Everyone has their own unique fingerprint; 【1】 makes fingerprints an ideal way to unlock smartphones. However, this may be 【2】 (safe) than we think.
Scientists at New York University and Michigan State University in the US have developed a set of fake fingerprints. They say that the prints 【3】 unlock any fingerprint-enabled smartphone up to 65 percent of the time.
The artificial fingerprints 【4】 (create) by using many common features found in human prints. They work 【5】 taking advantage of the way smartphone scanners check a fingerprint.
The fingerprint scanners 【6】 (use) in smartphones are so small that they only read parts of fingerprints. So they have to take many scans of your finger or thumb (拇指) 【7】 they work properly. Smartphones also let users save several finger and thumbprints. Since a print only has to match one of the saved images 【8】 (unlock) the phone, the scanner is more likely to make mistakes.
Although the scientists have only tested their findings in computer simulations (模拟), 【9】 (worry) about the safety of using fingerprints are reasonable .They warn that the technology used to create artificial fingerprints is improving 【10】 (extreme) fast.

41、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
When I arrived at 6 a.m. in the large hospital kitchen,Rose was already checking name tags on the trays(托盘). “Hi,I'm Janet. ”I tried to sound cheerful, although I already knew Rose's reputation for being impossible to work with. "I'm scheduled to work with you this week."
Rose stopped what she was doing and peered over her reading glasses. I could tell from her expression she wasn't pleased to see a student worker. “What do you want me to do?Start the coffee?"I asked.
Rose coldly nodded and went back to checking name tags.
I filled the 40-cup pot with water and began making the coffee when Rose yelled,“That's not the way to make coffee. ”She stepped in and took over.
Nothing I did pleased her. All morning, her eagle eyes missed nothing and her sharp words hurt.
Totally exhausted,I trudged the six blocks home late that June afternoon. As a third year university student working my way through school,I had never before met anyone like Rose.
Fighting back tears,I wrestled with my dilemma alone in my room. "What shall I do?”The answer caught me completely by surprise. I needed to love Rose.
Working with Rose the next morning,I ignored the hurtful remarks thrown in my direction and did things Rose's way as much as possible. As I worked,I silently began to surround Rose with a warm blanket of love.
Over the next few days,an amazing thing began to happen. My focus shifted from what she was doing to me and I started seeing Rose as the hurting person she was. Then her icy tension began to melt away.
Throughout the rest of the summer,we had numerous opportunities to work together. Each time, she seemed truly happy to see me. Her bitterness gave way as she started opening up. As I worked with this lonely woman,I listened to her, something no one else had done. I learned that she was burdened by elderly parents who needed her care and her own health problems.
The days slipped by quickly as I finished the last several weeks of my summer job. I soon would be returning as a full-time university student and say goodbye to Rose.
