二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、How to say hello in Japanese depends on(取决于) when you say it. This is very much like different greetings used in English at different times of the day or night. In Japanese culture, it also depends on whether you are on the phone or meeting somebody or whether you are close to the person you are greeting. We don’t get formal with our close friends. We seldom greet them with “Good morning “ or “Good evening”. A “Hi” is enough.

Although the most popular and most well-known translation for “Hello” is still “Konnichiwa”, it is not exactly how to say hello in Japanese. It is not the most suitable word for it. Actually, the correct greeting in English for “Konnichiwa” is “Good day” or “Good noon,” and I am sure you wouldn’t like greeting people with a “Good day” at any time, and neither do Japanese like saying “Konnichiwa” when they want to say “Hello”.

So what to do? Let’s do it the way the Japanese do. Use “Ohaiyo Gozaimasu” for “Good morning”, “Konnichiwa” when it’s noon and “Konbanwa” to greet somebody in the afternoon. Things differ when you are on the phone. Just say “Moshi, Moshi”, which is actually similar to saying “Hello” over the phone, because one hardly ever uses “Good morning” or “Good evening” right after picking up the phone. Next time, I’ll tell something about my life in Japan.

【1】What is the best title for this passage?

A.How to greet close friends in Japanese.

B.How to greet people in Japanese.

C.Some difference between English and Japanese.

D.How to say hello in Japanese.

【2】Japanese people greet each other by saying “______” in the afternoon.

    A.Konnichiwa

    B.Ohaiyo Gozaimasu

    C.Konbanwa

    D.A.Moshi, Moshi

    【3】In the writer’s opinion,______.

A.Japanese people don’t like using “Konnichiwa” as a greeting for the whole day.

B.people don’t need to be polite to their close friends

C.Japanese people are very friendly to each other

D.Japanese culture is similar to American culture

【4】We can learn from the passage that the writer_______.

A.lived in Japan for some time

B.is working in a radio station now

    C.knows both Japanese and Chinese

    D.is from Britain

  • 27、   A breathtaking trick potentially left over from our ancestors might be found in us-the ability to sense oxygen through our skin.

Amphibians, animals such as frogs that can live both on land and in water, have long been known to be capable of breathing through their skin. In fact, the first known lungless frog that breathes only through its skin was discovered recently in the rivers of Borneo.

Now the same oxygen sensors found in frog skins and in the lungs of mammals have unexpectedly been discovered in the skin of mice. “No one had ever looked,” explained Randall Johnson, a biologist researcher. Mice and frogs are quite distant relatives, so the fact they have these molecules in common in their skin suggests they might well be found in the skin of other mammals, such as humans. “We have no reason to think that they are not in the skin of people too.” Johnson said.

These molecules not only detect oxygen, but help increase levels of vital red blood cells, which carry oxygen around the body. Normal mice breathing in air that is 10 percent oxygen-a dangerously low level similar to conditions at the top of Mount Everest, and about half that of air at sea level. However, mice that had the oxygen sensor HIF-la genetically removed from their skin failed to produce this hormone even after hours of such low oxygen.

These findings, if they hold true in humans, suggest one could raise the level of oxygen circulating inside the body. This could help treat lung diseases and disorders such as anemia without injecting drugs, which make up a multibillion- dollar market, Johnson said.

Athletes also often try to get more oxygen delivered to their muscles in order to improve their performance. They often do this by training at high altitudes or in low-oxygen tents. The new study suggests they might want to expose their skin as well as breathing in low-oxygen air to improve their performance. “It's hard to say what exactly might be done, however-there's a lot we don't know yet,” Johnson explained. The scientists detailed their findings in the April 18 issue of the journal Cell.

1Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?

A.Johnson believes that Oxygen sensors also exist in human skin.

B.People have to surf the Internet to read detailed findings.

C.It has been proved that these findings help treat lung diseases.

D.It has long been expected oxygen sensors exist in mice's skin.

2One of the functions of the molecules mentioned above is

    A.carrying-oxygen around the body

    B.improving athletes'performance

    C.detecting oxygen

    D.increasing level of oxygen

3What is Johnson's attitude to the application of the findings to the athletes'training?

    A.Negative B.Pessimistic C.Positive D.Hesitating

4The best title of the passage may be

A.Great Findings Benefits Athletes A Lot

B.Frogs And Mice Are Distant Relatives

C.First Known Animal Breathes Through Skin

D.Humans Might Sense Oxygen Through Skin

  • 28、   If you are invited to a wedding, baby shower or other celebrations, you will be expected to bring a gift. Unless you know the host very well, the gift should be modest in value, about $25 or so.

For a wedding the bride will have "registered ( )" at one or two local department storesindicating the items she prefersYou can buy the couple a gift that isn’t listed , but most people buy something listed on the registry (记录簿). If you buy an item listed on the registry, be sure to tell the store that you are doing this, so that the couple doesn’t receive duplicate (重复的) giftsFor a baby showerbring a gift appropriate for a new born baby

If you wish to give a gift when you leave to return to your country, the best gift is something unique to your country. It does not need to be especially valuable or rare. Possibilities include a book about your country, an inexpensive piece of handicraft( 手工艺品)or art, or something else that reflects your culture. If the children collect coins and stamps, they would be very pleased with a set of your country’s coins or a selection of stamps from your country.

If you owe a debt of deep gratitude to an American host family, a common way of repaying it is to take the family to a form of entertainment, such as a baseball, basketball, or a good restaurant.

Gift giving is not as important in America as it is in other countries, so there is nothing wrong with not giving a gift. If you need help, talk to a salesperson at a department store. Tell them about the person who will be receiving the gift and the reason for the gift, and they will help you find something appropriate.

1Why is collecting coins mentioned in the third paragraph?

    A. To show the important role of coins as gifts.

    B. To stress the popularity of coin collecting in America.

    C. To give an example of selecting a unique gift.

    D. To explain the relation between coins and culture.

2What does the author intend to do in Para. 4?

    A. Introduce a way to show gratitude.

    B. Add some background information.

    C. Summarize(总结) the previous paragraphs.

    D. Recommend some family-friendly activities.

3The writer develops the passage mainly by  .

    A. using numbers. B. giving examples.

    C. giving reasons. D. telling stories.

4Which can serve as a title for the text?

    A. How to select a gift B. Gift giving in America

    C. Where to buy a gift D. Celebrations in America

  • 29、In a study published in Nature Machine Intelligence, researchers at Ohio State University show how artificial intelligence(AI)can follow clinical trials to identify drugs for repurposing, a solution that can help advance innovative treatments.

Repurposing drugs is legal and not unusual. When doctors prescribe(开处方)drugs that have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration(FDA)for purposes different from what is printed on the labels, the drugs are being used “off-label” Just because a drug is FDA-approved for a specific type of disease does not prevent it from having possible benefits for other purposes.

For example, Metformin, a drug that is FDA-approved for treating type 2 diabetes, is also used to treat PCOS(a disease of women), and other diseases. Trazodone, an anti-depressant with FDA-approval to treat depression, is also prescribed by doctors to help treat patients with sleep issues.

The Ohio State University research team created an AI deep learning model for predicting treatment probability with patient data including the treatment, outcomes, and potential confounders(干扰因素).

Confounders are related to the exposure and outcome. For example, a connection is identified between music festivals and increases in skin rashes(红疹). Music festivals do not directly cause skin rashes. In this case, one possible confounding factor between the two may be outdoor heat, as music festivals tend to run outdoors when the temperature is high, and heat is a known cause for rashes. When working with real-world data, confounders could number in the thousands. AI deep learning is well-suited to find patterns in the complexity of potentially thousands of confounders.

The researcher team used confounders including population data and co-prescribed drugs. With this proof-of-concept, now clinicians have a powerful AI tool to rapidly discover new treatments by repurposing existing medications.

【1】What do we know about a drug used off-label?

A.It is sold without a label.

B.It is available at a low price.

C.Its uses extend beyond the original ones.

D.Its clinical trials are rejected by doctors.

【2】Metformin and Trazodone are similar as both of them________.

    A.are used off-label

    B.treat rare diseases

    C.result in sleep issues

    D.are medical breakthroughs

【3】What can be inferred about “confounders”?

    A.They are possible treatments.

    B.They are environmental factors.

C.They can be easily recognized in real-world data.

D.They should be taken into serious consideration.

【4】What is the main idea of the text?

A.AI examines benefits of existing drugs.

B.AI identifies off-label uses for drugs.

C.AI finds new drugs for common diseases.

D.AI proves the power of drug research.
