二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、One of the pleasant things about having an apartment is having neighbors. You may develop personal friendships with some of your neighbors. There may also be times when you have a conflict(冲突)with your neighbors. There may be neighbors you just don't get along with at all. So how can you get along well with your neighbors?

Your neighbors have the right to maintain their living space as you do. Your neighbors have their own lifestyle and their own responsibilities. When you first move into an apartment, show respect for your neighbors. If you see them outside, say "hello". Introduce yourself to them and tell them you just moved in. Be pleasant. Early conflict with neighbors can cause you a bad reputation(名声).You should avoid that. Don't turn up your radio loud. Don't speed up your car on the streets of the neighborhood.

If your neighbors or your landlord(房东)feels that you are causing a problem at any point, be-have responsibly. It is not fun to suddenly be blamed for something, and it is easy to get defensive if this occurs. However, you need to accept that something you are doing has dissatisfied either your neighbors or your landlord or both of them. Listen to their stories carefully. Try to imagine yourself in their situation. Apologize for the problem you have caused.

If you feel your neighbors are causing a disturbance, be dispassionate. For example, suppose that it's two o'clock in the morning and you are awakened by loud noise from neighbors who are having a party, what will you do?This is annoying. You need to recognize that this is the first time that such kind of thing has happened. Recognize that your neighbors are human beings that make mistakes. Realize that there is time to resolve your discomfort with your neighbors. With cool heads, proper communication, patience, and consideration, you can solve this problem with your neighbors.

  • 27、   Standing at the top of the world, I cleared the ice from my oxygen mask(氧气面罩), bent a shoulder forward against the wind, and stared absently down at the land of Tibet. Finally I had made it-the top of Mount Qomolangma.

I understood on some dim level(隐约地)that the earth down there was a grand sight. I’d been longing for this moment, and the excitement that would come with it. But now that I was finally here, actually standing on the top of Mount Qomolangma, I just couldn’t collect the energy to care.

It was early on the afternoon of May 10, 1996. I hadn’t slept for fifty-seven hours. My stomach was upset because the only food I’d been able to force down over the past three days was a bowl of soup. To make things worse, weeks of violent coughing had made ordinary breathing a bitter process. At 29,028 feet above the sea level, there was so little oxygen reaching my brain that I couldn’t think better than a slow child. Right now I could not feel much of anything except cold and tired. After taking four quick photos, I turned and headed down. I’d spent less than five minutes on the roof of the world.

Looking down the route we had climbed, I noticed something that until that moment had escaped my attention. To the south, where the sky had been perfectly clear just an hour earlier, a blanket of clouds now hid the lesser mountains surrounding. Nothing I saw early that day suggested that a violent storm was approaching. To my oxygen-exhausted mind, the clouds coming up the grand valley of ice appeared no different from the harmless clouds that rose from the valley almost every afternoon.

As I was climbing down, I began to get extremely anxious. However, my concern at that moment had little to do with the weather; I had almost run out of oxygen. I ought to have checked earlier. I needed to get down, fast.

1What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 2 mean?

A.The top of the world. B.The land of Tibet.

C.A grand sight. D.Reaching the top.

2Why did the writer leave the top so quickly?

A.He was exhausted and weak. B.He had dropped his camera.

C.An unexpected violent storm arrived. D.He had fear of heights.

3What can we infer from the passage?

A.The grand sight made the writer scream.

B.The weather on Qomolangma was changeable.

C.The writer was energetic and strong-minded.

D.The writer was experienced and well-prepared.

  • 29、When it comes to getting ahead, is IQ or EQ more important? A thought experiment conducted featuring butterflies and geniuses settles the question once and for all.

【1】 So if you asked people whether they’d rather be a butterfly or a genius, I’m betting most people wouldn’t hesitate before choosing genius. But butterflies are also social creatures, often gathering in groups. The experiment points out just how big an advantage friendliness can be.

Imagine two groups of people. We’ll call them the Geniuses and the Butterflies for short. 【2】 They come up with one ground-breaking invention every 10 human lifetimes. The Butterflies aren’t nearly as bright. They take 1,000 lifetimes to come up with a world-changing invention.

But what the Butterflies lack in cognitive(认知的)horsepower, they make up for in social skills. 【3】 However, the egghead Geniuses are a little awkward. They only have one friend. Now imagine everyone goes about their business trying to learn about cool, new inventions, either by figuring them out for themselves or learning about them from friends. 【4】 The one where the people are a hundred times smarter(the Geniuses)or the one where they’re 10 times more social(the Butterflies)?

Well, communicating ideas within a group might not feel as impressive as coming up with brilliant ideas alone in a corner. Chatty Cathys(滔滔不绝的人)clearly have less cultural mystery than Nobel winners. But without them, new ideas don’t spread fast enough to-make big impact. 【5】

This fascinating thought experiment is good news for the communicators and connectors of the world, but it’s also a valuable lesson for anyone putting-together a team.

    A.Which society does better?

    B.Each Butterfly has 10 friends.

    C.The Geniuses are, well, geniuses.

D.Butterflies are pretty but lacking in strength.

E.Is it hard for the experiment to draw a conclusion?

F.In terms of group success, EQ matters more than raw IQ.

G.The Butterflies shouldn’t be compared with the Geniuses.
