  • 25、   I love my iPhone-It’s my little connection to the larger world that can go anywhere with me. I also love my computer, as it holds all of my writing and thoughts. Despite this love of technology, I know that there are times when I need to move away from these devices(设备) and truly communicate with others.

I teach a course called History Matters for a group of higher education managers. My goals for the class include a full discussion of historical themes and ideas. Because I want students to carefully study the material and exchange their ideas with each other in the classroom. I have a rule-no computers, iPads or phones. When students were told my rule in advance of the class, some of them were not happy.

Most students bet that my reasons for this rule include unpleasant experiences in the past with students misusing technology. There’s a bit of truth to that. Some students guess that I am anti-technology. There’s no truth in that at all. I love technology and try to keep up with it.

The real reason why I ask students to leave technology at the door is that I think there are few places in which we can have deep conversations and truly engage complex(复杂的) ideas. Interruptions by technology often break concentration and allow for too much dependence on outside information for ideas. I want students to dig deep within themselves for inspiration and ideas. I want them to push each other to think differently and make connections between the course, the material and the class discussion.

I’ve been teaching my history class in this way for many years and my students gradually realize that with deep conversation and challenge, they learn at a level that helps them keep the course material beyond the classroom.

I’m not saying that I won’t ever change my mind about technology use in my history class, but until I hear a really good reason for the change. I’m sticking to my plan. A few hours of technology-free dialogue is just too sweet to give up.

1Some of the students in the history class were unhappy with________?

A.the course material B.others’ misuse of technology

    C.discussion topics D.the author’s class rule

2The underlined word “engage” in Para.4 probably means ________?

    A.explore B.accept C.change D.refuse

3According to the author, the use of technology in the classroom may ________.

    A.keep students thinking independently

B.encourage students to have deep conversations

C.help students to better understand complex themes

D.affect students’ concentration on the course

4It can be inferred from the last paragraph that the author ________.

A.will never change his idea B.will give up teaching history

C.will change his teaching plan soon D.values technology-free dialogues in his class

  • 26、Primary and junior high school students now are allowed to stay at school for two hours after school is over. Students can enjoy their hobbies or take part in other after-school activities.

This is one of the key measures (措施) of the “double reduction” policy (“双减”政策) across the country. The policy tries to reduce students’ stress caused by too much homework and off-campus training.

When students leave school, they can see their parents, instead of their grandparents, waiting outside to pick them up. Students are happy about it, and parents, too.

“It’s good that I can come to pick up my son,” said Mrs. Wang, a mother of a second-grader. “I’ve bought extra exercise books for him to do since he has no homework now. I still need to know how well he has learned.”

The changes also mean that students can choose to do their homework at school after classes.

“We have a reading course after classes end at 4 pm,” said Zhang Zirui, a primary school student. “Then we do our homework at school. I don’t have to do homework when I go back home.”

Lan Lan, a student at a junior high school, has less homework now. “The teacher has cut out the repetitive contents (重复内容) in the homework, which I welcome a lot,” she said. “And there are lots of after-school activities for us to take part in. It’s great.”

Mr. Wang, a father of a junior high school student, said the measures showed the govenment’s great efforts to lighten the burden (负担) on schools, parents and students.

【1】The underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refers to ________.

    A.leaving school at 6 pm

    B.enjoying hobbies after school

    C.taking no after-school training

D.seeing their parents picking them up

【2】What was Lan Lan’s attitude (态度) towards the new policy?

    A.She doubted it.

    B.She supported it.

    C.She was against it.

    D.She worried about it.

    【3】What’s the passage mainly about?

A.Primary and junior high school students’ stress.

B.Some new measures of the “double reduction” policy.

C.After-school activities offered by some primary schools.

D.Opinions on a key measure of the“double reduction” policy.

  • 28、   If you go to Finland, you’ll be 1(surprise) to find how “foolish” the Finnish people are. Take the taxi drivers for example. Taxis in Finland are 2(most) high class Benz with a fare of two US dollars a kilometer. And the driver would not show the least sign of worry.

The dining rooms in all big hotels not only serve their guests, but also outside diners. Hotel guests have their meals free, so their good faith is to wave their registration card to the waiter. With such a loose check, you can4(easy) use any old registration card to take a couple of 5(friend) to wine and eat free of charge.

Perhaps you may worry 6 the Finnish people. 7 the strange thing is, all the taxi-passengers would always come back8(pay) their fare after they have attended to their business; not a single outsider has ever been found in the free hotel dining rooms.
