24、 A feral child is a child who, from a young age, has lived with animals in the wild. What makes wild animals adopt these children and raise them as their own is a mystery. Since feral children have often had no contact with humans for a long time, they may be more like wild animals than people. Their stories, although often upsetting can teach us how people learn and use language — and perhaps even what it means to be human.
In Uganda in 1991, a tribeswoman saw a naked boy living with a troop of wild monkeys in the jungle. The woman was shocked and quickly told the people in her village about the boy. When they tried to take him away from the monkeys, the frightened boy threw sticks at them and climbed up a tree to hide. The monkeys fought fiercely, trying to stop the tribesmen from taking him away, but they did not succeed.
After his "rescue", the boy was taken to Kamuzinda Chritan Orphanage, outside Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. He was identified as John Ssabunnya, a boy who had disappeared three years earlier after his mother was murdered and his father went missing. John was only two years old when he disappeared.
John couldn't speak when he arrived at the orphanage. It was obvious that he did not know how to act in a human way-- he knew only how to behave like a monkey. However, he soon began to talk and was found to have a beautiful singing voice.
John shot to fame at the age of fourteen, when he toured the UK with a children's choir(合唱队). "His is a remarkable story. One day it could even be made into a film.” said tour organizer Hillary Cook.

【4】The writer organizes the passage by_________.
A.using numbers B.showing opinions C.telling a story D.listing reasons
25、Libraries give kids a quiet and safe place to read and learn. For over 100 years, libraries have played an important role in Americans’ education. But how are these book – filled buildings changing as time goes by? You may be surprised to find out.
Benjamin Franklin famously founded(创建)America’s first lending library in 1731. But the public library system got its biggest development in the American history in the late 1800s. Businessman Andrew Carnegie donated millions of dollars to help build free public libraries across the country. Between 1886 and 1919, Carnegie’s donations helped build 1, 679 new libraries.
Carnegie believed that libraries could offer the chances to Americans, the young and the old. He knew that the more libraries there were, the more people would have opportunities to read and use books, speeches and news.
If you can easily find a public library in your community(社区), you’ll get more chances. After all, the United States has 9, 225 public libraries. Today, libraries keep growing. Seven tenths of the libraries have free Internet. It provides much more information and opportunities to ask for jobs online.
Libraries are also teaching kids about the fun of reading. The new program Read! Build! Play! adds reading into playtime. As kids listen to a book that is being read aloud, they use Legos(乐高积木)to build images(图像)from the story happily. 26、People are hurt by acid rain. A young boy named Marco lived in New Jersey. He liked to open his mouth to catch the fresh tasting water in the past. This time it was acid rain. It came from pollution created by the factories close to Marco's home. Marco didn't know that this kind of rain would make him sick.
Marco, who has asthma(气喘), had a serious attack. He had to go to hospital. He felt terrible. He couldn't breathe. People with breathing problems suffer when they are exposed(裸露) to acid rain. People who eat plants or animals that have been exposed to acid rain can also have serious problems. Some other health problems have something to do with people eating animals and plants affected by acid rain.
Acid rain burns the leaves on plants and trees. They should be green and healthy, but acid rain destroys them. The rain usually does not kill the trees, but their leaves are destroyed. Then, the plants get weaker because they can't make the food that they need. Forests in the Appalachian Mountains in the eastern United States have been especially harmed by acid rain. Besides, Acid rain also hurts the soil in the forests, nonliving things, such as arts and buildings.

27、Friends are a part of our lives. In my life, I have a best friend named Lucy. She means a lot to me. My life would be less colorful without her. Although we sometimes argue, we still treat each other as best friends.
We met each other four years ago. She said hello to me with a sweet smile. I guessed that she was a gentle girl. And she really was. When I was in trouble, she always stood by me and made me feel better.
This winter holiday, we went to the amusement park Happy Valley together. We had fun together on the roller coaster (过山车). We held each other’s hands and shouted loudly when we were riding the roller coaster. It was so exciting. The ride made me feel a little sick, so she bought a bottle of water for me. This experience left me with a lot of good memories and made our friendship stronger.
There is a line in the movie Soulmate that says, “If you step on someone’s shadow, you will never leave each other.” So I will try my best to “step on her shadow”. Many adults think that children can’t be friends forever. But I don’t believe this.
