21、(题文)Let’s go camping
What do we do when we go camping? First, we work out a plan. We take food, clothing, a knife, and things for cooking and eating. We take things to keep us away from insects(虫子) and the sun.
Then we put everything into the car and we drive to the woods(树林、林地). We look for a place for campers(露营者) and we look for a good place for our tent(帐篷). The place should have a lot of moving air. This will keep some insects away. High land with water on both sides of it is good. Then we put up our tent. We put everything into the tent, and we are ready for fun. We can swim in the lake, walk in the woods, climb a mountain, row a boat, or go fishing.
In the evening we come back to the tent, we build a big fire because it can keep the insects away. We sit around the fire and talk. We may tell interesting stories or we may sing songs.
At night we lie down on the grass. We can look up at the stars. It is a busy day, so we try to go to sleep early.
Everything is dark. Everything is quiet. We hope we won’t hear music from the radio in the next tent. We hope it won’t rain.

Today’s grandparents are joining their grandchildren on smartphones, but the different generations’ (一代人) digital (数码的) habits could be more different.
Sara is a 59-year-old woman. She uses the smartphone (智能手机) to see what her grandchildren are doing because her daughter puts videos and photos of them online. It’s a much better way to see what they’re doing than waiting for letters and photos in the past. She thinks she’s lucky to see so much more of their lives than her grandparents did.”
Sara’s grandchildren are using smartphones more often than Facebook. Chloe, a 15-year-old girl, even sleeps with her phone. “It’s my alarm clock,” she says. “I look at it before I go to sleep and as soon as I wake up.”
Young people might thank for their smartphones but their parents disagree. Peter, a father of two kids, is trying to stay away from smartphones. “In the past, I used my smartphone so often that I felt like I was always working,” he says. “If I always use the smartphone, how could I tell my kids to get off their phones?” So, in the evenings and on weekends, he uses an old mobile phone. It can only make calls and send text messages. “The important thing is that I’m trying to be a better example to my kids and spending more time with them.”

If and when you are considering getting a new pet, the first thing to do is to consider yourself and your lifestyle. Never buy a pet out of a sudden idea. Animal shelters (庇护所) worldwide are full of wonderful pets whose owners got them but later realize they could not take care of them. Learn more about how to choose the right pet below. Not all pets are the same. Some pets are more self-sufficient than others — certain pets such as dogs require a lot of attention, others such as turtles can go days (even weeks) without food and water, so you should think carefully before you bring home a pet. You can find books and articles on the Internet to help you select the right pet, but these questions are a good place to start: How much time and energy are you able to give a pet? ● Are the family members all busy working/studying? ● Is there anyone who can look after the animal when you all are away from home? What is your living situation? ● Do you live in a flat or a house? ● Have you got a fenced yard? ● ___▲___ What ages are your family members? ● Are they too young to be left alone with a pet? ● Are they old enough to help take care of the animal? ● Are there elderly people who may be uncomfortable to an overactive pet? Do any family members have allergies or fears about certain types of pets? Is the family in agreement about owning a pet? Where will the pet spend its time? Asking yourself these questions will help you decide if a dog or cat is a better choice, or if a bird or rabbit would better suit your lifestyle. Once your choice has not been narrowed down, come talk to us or e-mail us at petchoice@126.com. Our staff are experts in helping you choose the right pet for your situation. |
