六、阅读理解 (共3题,共 15分)
  • 21、Want to have a cold drink during summer? “Ouch!” Suddenly your teeth begin to ache. If eating ice-cream or drinking cold drinks makes your teeth ache, it could be something called TRPC5.

A new study came out on March 26, 2021. It answered a long-lasting question about teeth—why do cold food and drinks make our teeth ache? Actually, it means that our tooth enamel (牙釉质) might have been broken. The team discovered the TRPC5 15 years ago, but they didn’t know which part of the tooth could feel the change of temperature. Now they know it—it’s in the tooth enamel.

David Clapham from the team showed how teeth feel cold. When someone is eating ice-cream, for example, cells(细胞) with TRPC5 in teeth feel a change in temperature and then send information to the brain(大脑). The team also found that there is more TRPCS in bad teeth. So we should protect our teeth.

“Toothache has long been a problem,” Clapham said. “But it is important and it influences a lot of people. Toothache is nothing until you get it.” The team believed this study could help develop more useful medicine for toothache.

    判断句子正误。正确的涂“A”,错误的涂“B”。

【1】This passage tells us to be careful about cold drinks because we may have a stomachache.

【2】The team knew which part of our tooth could feel the change of temperature as soon as they discovered the TRPC5.

【3】The following picture shows how our teeth feel cold.

【4】The underlined sentence advises us to protect our teeth before it’s too late.

【5】This study is very useful and can help people lower the risk of having a toothache.

  • 22、Plants are very important living things. Life could not go on if there were no plants. This is because plants can make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals and man cannot make food from air, water and sunlight. Animals get their food by eating plants and other animals. So animals and man need plants in order to live. This is why we find that there are so many plants around us.

If you look carefully at the plants around you, you will find that there are two kinds of plants: flowering plants and non-flowering (不开花的) plants.

Flowering plants can make seeds (种子). Fruits protect the seeds. Some fruits have one seed, some have two, three or four, and some have many seeds. But a few fruits have no seeds at all. An example of a fruit without seeds is the banana fruit.

Most non-flowering plants do not grow from seeds. They grow from spores (孢子). Spores are very, very small. Some spores are so small and light that they can float () in the air. We may say that spores are quite the same as seeds. When these spores fall on wet and shady (阴凉的) places, they usually grow into new plants.

1The main idea of the first paragraph is that _______.

    A. plants are important for life   B. plants can’t grow without air

    C. there are many plants in the world   D. we can’t live without water

2Plants can make food from _______.

    A. flower, water and air   B. water, sunlight and air

    C. air, water and soil   D. air, sun and light

3What fact does the passage lead you to believe?

    A. Of all living things, animals are the most important.   B. Spores are seeds.

    C. All fruits of flowering plants have seeds.   D. Without plants, man will die out.

4What will the writer probably (可能) talk about in the following paragraph?

    A. how plants can make food from air   B. how spores grow into new plants

    C. why some plants have no seeds   D. why non-flowering plants are more important than flowering plants

5This passage is most likely to be taken from ________.

    A. a story book   B. a TV guide

    C. a science magazine   D. a lab (实验室) report

  • 23、The idea of “time banks” was created by Yale University Professor Edgar Cahn in 1980 as a way to encourage volunteerism (志愿服务). It’s simple enough. People who volunteer to help others in their communities (社区) get “time dollars” or “time coins”—that can be exchanged (交换) in later life if they need help. It has taken effect in Britain, Japan, Sweden and other countries. And so, too, in China.

The idea of “time banks” was introduced in China in the 1990s, and Shanghai was one of its first users. However, being short of clear rules, volunteers and good management, the project finally failed. Recently, the idea has become popular once more because of China’s rapidly aging population.

The Chinese version mostly hopes to encourage younger senior people to provide services for the older ones. I’m happy to help them before I become too old to look after myself, said Yang Beifen, 68, a community volunteer in Shanghai. I’ve collected over 10 coins now, and it’s comforting to know that I can use them if I need to in the future.

The idea of “time banks” is one way to deal with the problem of an aging population. By the end of last year, there were more than 5.2 million people aged 60 or older in Shanghai. Of these people, about 30 percent were aged below 64 and 16 percent were over 80. Many young people are too busy to care for the elderly, so the elderly have to help each other. The Bank of China even developed a WeChat mini program to help the elderly.

However, the needs of the elderly are a great challenge for the city. There’s a long way to go.

【1】What do we know about the idea of “time banks”?

    A.It’s popular only in Europe.

B.It was created by a Chinese teacher.

C.It’s kind of difficult to understand.

D.It’s a form of saving for the future.

【2】Which is NOT the reason for “time banks” failure in China in the 1990s?

    A.The management was poor.

    B.There were not clear rules.

C.People didn’t have much money at that time.

D.There were not enough people who would like to volunteer.

【3】What is Yang Beifen’s attitude towards the idea of “time banks”?

    A.She is pleased with it.

    B.She is worried about it.

C.She pays no attention to it.

    D.She feels disappointed about it.

【4】According to the last two paragraphs, ________.

A.young people should help each other

B.more work should be done to help the elderly

C.the start of the WeChat mini program wasn’t easy

D.an aging population is a common problem around the world

【5】What is the main purpose of the passage?

    A.To introduce some volunteers.

B.To introduce the history of “time banks”.

C.To give facts about “time banks” in China.

D.To introduce “time banks” to more countries.
