24、It is true that people with better education are usually able to get better paying jobs. In other words, they have more chances to choose a good job while people with little or no education don't. It seems that the purpose of education is to make people get jobs. But this isn't accepted by all people.
Some people may think that a person should spend the best years of his life to get education only for a way of living. This was probably one of the earliest reasons of education. In fact, if education is just a way of making a living, people don't need to spend so much time in school. People can get education for a living in a short time. Subjects like history and geography need not be taught to everyone. Even language and maths need not be taught in detail, either. Here it is clear that education is much more than teaching a man to get a way of living.
Education is well-rounded (全面的) and it is mainly for improving a man. It is not only to teach him to speak, read and write, but also to develop his creative thinking and other abilities. After that, it is to make him a wise man and thankfully enjoy the achievements of human. Education is to make a man lead a better life. Educated people are expected to be able to listen to good music, read good books, watch plays and take an interest in the world.
I would agree that making a good living is an important reason for education, but certainly not the most important or the main reason.

26、 You try to keep your eyes wide open while watching a basketball match or a wonderful firework show in case you might miss something exciting in just the blink of an eye. But in fact, humans blink about 15 times per minute on average. Have you ever missed anything because you blinked?
Probably not. Why is that?
According to a new study published in the journal Current Biology in September our brain has the ability to skip the temporary darkness when we blink. It can keep visual information for a short period of time and then put it together to form an image without interruption.
In order to understand how this works, a group of scientists at the German Primate Center and the University Medical Center Gottingen in Germany conducted an experiment. In the study, the participants were asked to look at patterns on a screen whose direction could be interpreted in different ways, such as horizontally(水平地) or vertically(垂直地) When one pattern was about to disappear and the next one was about to come, the participants had to indicate the direction that the next pattern would appear.
The researchers found that when the directions of two patterns didn't match, the area in our brain which is responsible for visual memory was activated. This same area showed less activity when two patterns were in the same direction.
The medial prefrontal cortex(额叶皮层) adjusts current visual information with previously obtained information, and thus enables us to perceive the world with more stability, even when we briefly close our eyes to blink," Caspar Schwiedrzik explained in Science Daily. He is the first author of the study and also a scientist at the German Primate Center.

27、 The usual way of showing one's love is expressing it with words, but my dad is different. He’s the one who cared so much for me and showed love in so many other ways than the usual ways of other adults.
In my earlier years I would wake my dad up and say, “Dad, I'm hungry. Could you make me something to eat” “Sure, what a question. How about a piece of steak and some eggs?” He would answer happily. “Well, I'm not sure, it would be too much trouble,” would say without listening to my stomach. “No worries,” would be his reply with joy, as he always answered me that way.
Sunday is my dad's only rest day but he would come up to me and say. “How about a game of cricket?” “Yes, Dad! That will be great,” I would reply happily. On the days when he was too tired to play, he would still say, “Yeah, sure! I’ll play.” My Mom would come and call me to the side and explain that my Dad was just too tired to play but could not say no to me. He always had and has time for me.
As time flew by I started to become a teenager with independence and what seemed to me as a childish game over food became a stupid idea. On the days he didn't work he would come to me. "Give Dad a smile," he would say encouragingly. “Dad, at the moment I can’t smile.” I would say. “Please. Just one smile and then I won't ask again,” he would playfully. Looking at his funny face. I couldn't help smiling.
I wrote this to thank my dad. The one who would make me food late at night when I was too tired to do so. The one who would sit by my bed in my time of greatest need. The one who couldn't say no to his son.
