George Washington Carver was one of America’s most well-known agricultural （农业的）scientists. Slavery（奴隶制）ended in America just one year before George was born in Missouri.
George was clever from a young age. He loved art, music, and science. He was especially interested in soil （土壤）and plants. He became so skilled that farmers nearby asked him to help them with their farms. George soon became known as the “Plant Doctor” in the area.
