Can you find anything strange about the cat on the left?
In 1961, a man found a strange cat on his farm in Scotland. The cat’s ears were folded (折着的), bent (弯曲) forward, on its head. In fact, this was a new kind of cat. People named it the “Scottish Fold”.
The Scottish Fold has a round head and big eyes. Its neck and legs are short. They make it look very lovely. Interestingly, all the Scottish Folds are born with straight and unfolded ears. And when they are growing up day by day, some cats’ ears will begin to fold. So, the Scottish Fold comes in two types: folded ears and straight ears.
There is a nickname (昵称) for the Scottish Fold. It is the “Messenger (信使) of Peace”. Why? Because the Folds are sweet and friendly animals. They can get along well with other cats. And unlike some other cats, they can even get along well with dogs! In many different places, for example, at a noisy house or in a cat show, you can see them playing with other animals happily.
Well, when you come to a new school, do you think it’s difficult to feel comfortable in the new place? Perhaps you can learn from the Scottish Fold, which is always sweet and friendly to others.

22、Tom was a farmer. He worked on the farm all day, but sometimes he went to the town market to sell fruit and vegetables. One day, a terrible sound attracted his attention in the town market. He saw a young bull for sale. The bull was white and yellow. It was looking at Tom in fear. Tom walked up and touched its head gently. Just at that time they both seemed to have known each other for a long time. How amazing! Tom bought it at once and called it Amba.
From then on, Tom and Amba got on well with each other. But some friends told him that it was dangerous to have such a close relationship with an animal.
One afternoon, Tom was walking through the forest with Amba. Suddenly, Amba stopped walking and kept pushing Tom with its head. Tom was very surprised and looked around. There was a big snake in front of him. It was beautiful but poisonous. Quickly Amba stepped on the snake’s tail with its foot and at the same time Tom picked up a stick and hit the snake’s head heavily. Soon the snake died.
Tom was very grateful for Amba’s help. When people heard this, they were shocked at the bull’s expression of love for Tom. But for Tom, Amba was not a bull but a member of his family.

23、Large gatherings such as weddings and conferences can be socially crowded. Pressure to learn people’s names only adds to the stress. A new facial recognition app could come to save you, but privacy (隐私) experts suggested using with care.
The app, called Social Recall, connects names with faces through smartphone cameras and facial recognition, avoiding the need for formal introductions. “It breaks down the social difficulties we all have when meeting somebody,” says Barry Sandrew, who created the app and tested it at an event attended by about 1, 000 people.
After receiving an invitation to download Social Recall from an event organizer, the user is asked to take two selfies(自拍照) and sign in through social media. At the event, the app is active within a certain area. When a user points his or her phone camera at an attendee’s face, the app recognizes the person, displays the person’s name, and links to his or her social media. To protect privacy, it recognizes only those who have agreed to participate. And the app’s creators say it automatically deletes users’ data after an event.
Ann Cavoukian, a privacy expert who runs the Privacy by Design Center of Excellence praises (表扬) the app’s creators for these protective measures. She calls for people’s attention, however, that when people choose to share their personal information with the app, they should know that “there may be unwanted consequences (后果) down the road with that information being used in another social environment that might come back to bite you.”
The start-up has also developed a version of the app for individuals who suffer from prosopagnosia, or “face blindness,” a condition that prevents people from recognizing people they have met. To use this app, a person first gets an image of someone’s face, from either the smartphone’s camera or a photograph, and then tags it with a name. When the camera sees that same face in real life, the entered information is shown. The collected information is stored only on a user s phone, according to the team behind the app.

B.collecting information
C.providing the information of a person when they first meet
D.showing the person’s information when it sees a stored face
