21、A doctor always gives you a note to take to the chemist (药剂师) for some medicine. Can you read the note easily? Some doctors write clearly but most doctors do not. Chemists read doctors’ notes more often but sometimes doctors write really too badly and the chemist can’t read them, either.
One day a woman wrote to a doctor inviting him to have dinner at her house. The doctor wrote an answer, but he didn’t write clearly and the woman could not read it.
“What shall I do?” She said to her husband (丈夫), “I don’t know whether (是否) he is coming or not. I don’t want to give him a telephone call and say that I can’t read his writing.”
Her husband thought for a moment, and then he had an idea.
“Thank you”, said the woman. “That’s a very good idea.”
She went to the chemist’s shop and gave the doctor’s note to the chemist. The chemist looked at it very carefully. Then he said politely. “Could you wait a moment, madam?” He went to the back of the shop. After a few minutes, he came back with a large bag of medicine. He gave the bag to the woman and said, “Three times a day and one spoon at a time.”

22、Do you ever feel no one really understands you? Well, “Pepper”, a robot could change all that.
Pepper is the first robot to read human’s feelings. Using its emotional recognition function (情感识别功能), Pepper can react (回应) to people when it is close to them — making jokes, dancing and even singing in Japanese.
The man-like robot looks like a small girl. It is four feet tall with a table computer set to its chest (胸膛). It has human-like hands, a girl-like body and baby-like voice. More than 2,000 companies has bought it and used it to different areas.
Pepper can examine facial expressions (面部表情), human voice and signs, and then make an answer. Pepper is designed to be a family robot, but it isn’t like Rosie, the household (家庭的) robot in the cartoon. Pepper is used at home or in the store, where there is fun and entertainment (娱乐).
Pepper gets power from love inside a family. It not only makes jokes, but also helps people when they are in trouble. In a natural accident, it can help make those people who are sad or lonely feel relaxed, encourage them or make them laugh.
The creators say while Peppers being used all over the world, they want the robots to store more knowledge, so they can get along better with humans.
【1】How can Pepper react to people?

23、In some science fiction movies, evil (邪恶)robots refuse to die, no matter how hard people fight back.
Now science fiction has become science fact. For the first time, scientists have made a robot that can take a beating(挨打) and keep on going. Scientists from Cornell University made the robot, which looks like a spider with four legs.
Until now, even the most advanced(先进的) robot was almost certain to break down when it was damaged(毁坏). That is because its computer inside simply doesn’t know how to make the machine work after its shape has changed.
To deal with this problem, the scientists put eight motors(发动机) and two sensors(传感器) that read how the machine is working. They all give signals to the machine’s software. Using this information, the computer can then figure out the machine’s shape at any moment.
The new technology is a big advance in robot-making, scientists say, and it’s far from scary. It may someday help scientists create better artificial(假的) arms and legs and give new freedom to people who lose them. It might also help scientists understand how people and animals figure out their own sense of place in space.
“It has been difficult to design robots that can work well when the environment changes or when it’s damaged,” says Olaf Sporns of Indiana University in US. “With this work, we are nearer to solving this problem.”
【1】What does the new technology allow the robot to do?
A.Do homework for human.
B.Tell people when it is.
