六、阅读理解 (共3题,共 15分)
  • 21、“Well, we could use some hot-dogs.” I was at the local charity (慈善) food bank. They had a second-hand store where I would sometimes pick up something for my sons. Sometimes I would also go into the food store and ask if they needed anything. I received (获得) help from food banks when I was a young father with a hungry family. Now, I like to give back.

This time I could see that most of the shelves were filled with boxes given away by stores. One thing they said they needed was meat, however. Hot-dogs were cheap and I didn’t mind getting some. I soon went to the local store and filled my cart with all the hot-dogs I could afford (支付).

As I was paying for them, I thought of my childhood. I could see my mom boiling two hot-dogs in a pot. Next she put each one on a slice of white bread with a piece of cheese. It didn’t cost much but to me it was a big meal, cooked with love, eaten with joy.

That memory warmed my heart as I dropped off the hot-dogs at the food bank. It felt good knowing that some other little boy or girl would soon have a happy lunch. I left there with a smile on my face. As I walked to my car, I could feel my mom smiling down on me from heaven (天堂).

【1】The writer went to the food bank to ________.

B.his mom smiled at him from heaven

    C.he felt good about giving

D.some kids would never get hungry

【4】Which word can best describe the writer?

    A.Nice.

    B.Strong.

    C.Poor.

    D.Brave.

【5】What does the writer mainly want to tell us?

A.There are more ways than difficulties.

B.Giving with love is the same as receiving.

    C.Love is the best medicine.

D.Saying and doing are two different things.

  • 22、Yellowstone National Park, in Wyoming, USA, is a popular vacation place. But in the summer of 1988, it was a danger to visitors. Why? The place visited for its beautiful sights was on fire! The park soon closed to the visitors. Fires burned (燃烧) for almost four months. Lots of plants and animals died in the fire. By the end, about 45% of the park had burned.

Although wildfires can be bad for the environment, they are also an important part of some ecosystems (生态系统). Some forests can get so crowded with young trees that not much sunlight reaches the forest floor. This makes it hard for other plants to grow. Fires can make these forests less crowded so that tees and wild flowers can grow.

Wildfires also help forests by burning leaves and plants on the ground. It will add nutrients (养分) to the soil, which helps plants grow.

Wildfires help forests in another way, too. Some evergreen trees can release (释放) their seeds in a forest fire! The fire reaches to even the top of the highest trees. After the fire, new trees start to come out.

A forest is a busy place after a wildfire. New plants begin to grow. The soilis rich withnutrients, and more sunlight reaches the ground. This helps the new plants grow quickly. When plants come back to a forest, animals are not far behind. New flowers bring insects, birds and other animals. The animals use the plants for food. They also help spread the plants’ seeds. This helps the forest grow back even faster. Many animals make their homes in tees after a fire. The forest quickly becomes full of life again.
