六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   There are at least 3,000 miles (about 4,828 km) of waterways in Britain. On these canals (运河) and rivers, there are over 30,000 "houseboats"--boats that people use as homes. Around 10,000 of them are located in London.

Houseboat communities are made up of people who are looking for a slower way of life and who want to be in touch with nature.

Living on the water sounds romantic (浪漫的), but it is also hard work. There are daily things that need to be done, like bringing fuel (燃料) and water on board and dealing with "waste" water from the kitchen sink, shower and toilet. In winter, living on a boat can be very cold and there is always a feeling of being damp(潮湿的). Of course, most boats are quite small inside, so you don't have much space, especially if you are a couple, family or group of friends.

However, the number of people living on Britain's waterways has increased by around 50 percent over the past ten years. This is not only because they like the idea of life on water but also because it is much cheaper to buy or rent () a boat than a flat or a house.

There is a great sense of community on the waterways. Houseboat neighbours often become friends for life. This is quite a different story from people who live in flats or houses and may hardly know the people next door at all.

1What can we know about houseboats in Britain from the passage?

    A. There are about 40,000 houseboats in total. B. They are boats that are used as homes.

    C. They are houses in the shape of boats. D. They are designed for traveling on water.

2Why do people live in houseboats?

    A. They want to get away from nature. B. They need to make a living by fishing.

    C. They prefer a slower way of life. D. They enjoy living an faster life on water.

3What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us about?

    A. The best season to live on a boat. B. Tips for living on a houseboat.

    C. The costs of living on water. D. The difficulties of living on the water.

4Why are more people choosing to live on waterways?

    A. Because it costs less than living in a house or flat.

    B. Because the government is promoting (推进) this idea.

    C. Because they are afraid of living in cities.

    D. Because it provides a bad sense of community

  • 24、Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents. However, it is not true. Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it’s hard for you to communicate with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here is some advice for you to bridge the generation gap (代沟).

Don’t argue with your parents. Don’t get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won’t consider your ideas if you are shouting at them. And you can’t express yourself well if you are angry. Go some place to cool off. Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don’t think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.

Try to reach a compromise (和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael’s mother didn’t agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to a compromise. Michael bought the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days.

Of course, your parents might refuse to compromise on something. In these situations, it is especially important to show love and respect to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong.

Talk about your values. The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help them see your purposes in life.

A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. It is worth having a try!

【1】According to the passage, who have a communication problem?

    A.Parents and other people.

B.Only school kids and their parents.

    C.Teachers and their students.

D.Parents and children of all ages.

【2】How many pieces of advice does the writer give us to bridge the generation gap?

    A.5.

    B.4.

    C.3.

    D.2.

【3】If the values of your parents are different from those of yours, you’d better ________.

    A.argue with them

    B.keep away from them

C.agree with them all the time

D.tell your parents what you care about
