21、Erin Brockovich grew up in Kansas, USA. She studied at a business college for a year, and then she went to California.
In 1990, when she was thirty years old, she had a car accident. A law firm (律师事务所) helped her after the accident, so she started to work for them later.
Her job was to organize papers (文件). One day Erin realized that there were lots of very sick people in a place called Hinkley. She felt it was unusual, so she started to look for more information about the town.
Erin worked very hard for five years. She visited lots of sick people in Hinkley and listened to their stories. All the sick people lived near a big factory called Pacific Gas and Electric. Then she discovered that there was something called chromium in the water they drank. It was from the factory and Erin believed that the people were sick because of the chromium in their drinking water. She planned to help them.
Erin started a law case (诉讼) against Pacific Gas and Electric. The factory wasn’t happy about this. They didn’t agree that the people were ill because of the water — but in 1996 the judge (法官) ordered Pacific Gas and Electric to pay the people in Hinkley $500,000 each.

Tea is drunk by all sections(阶层)of society. But tea does not grow in Britain. Most of the tea is grown in India and China. So, how did it become an important part of British culture?
Tea arrived in London in the 1600s. At this time British ships were exploring(探索)the world and came across the drink in China. It was not long before green tea was available(可购得的)to buy. However, this was only available to the richer sections of society.
At the beginning of the 1700s, the amount of tea arriving in Britain increased. Black tea arrived at this time. At first people drank this tea exactly as it was in China. They soon found that it mixed really well with a little milk and sugar, giving it a special taste.
In the 1800s, tea was still a thing enjoyed only by people with money. At this time they began to have “afternoon tea”. People drink tea with a snack around 4 p.m. so that they don’t feel hungry between lunch and dinner. It is a tradition that is still going today but has become less popular in recent times.
In the late 1800s, the price of tea went down as more tea began to arrive on ships from India and China. It was no longer a drink just for rich people. Dear Frank, You've heard the warnings. It's reported that fifty percent of the teenagers depend on their phones too much. I think you have this problem too. That's why I think you should give up your phone. Not forever, just for a week. I'm warned that you are developing some bad habits. Social media, games, and apps might seem silly to you, but they help me to keep in touch with my friends. I promise to cut back my phone use, and I won't use it at the dinner table any more.
