六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Time is not a fixed object. The idea of time in any given culture is largely a product created by beliefs, traditions, and values. In some cases, time is thought of as formless and is based on what is going on at the moment, rather than as a planned object. Others regard time as a machine: a real thing which is fixed, which can be divided into schedules (日程安排) and can be wasted.

Similarly, cultures are also likely to think of the passing of time in different ways as well. A society can be moved towards a specific (特定化的) understanding of history. Many cultures, such as British, Native American, Greek, French, Japanese, and some other Asian cultures, take the past, cultural history, and traditions as having the most importance, and use them as a guide in making present-day decisions. Some cultures see the present moment as the most important. Tradition holds little importance, and planning for the future is not the most important thing, but rather the present time is more valued, and these kinds of lifestyles are relaxed. Other societies can be future-oriented (关注未来的), and place an additional focus on planning and forward movement, and the present activities are treated as a bridge to this future goal. This is the common agreement in the United States.

How a person thinks of time can be understood in the way they work together with others. Someone with a focus on the future will hold schedules and times to be very important, as they are necessary for moving on to the next step. However, someone who lives more in the present may consider a certain meeting time as not fixed. In Italy and in many Arab countries, it is normal for people to be 30 minutes late for a meeting. It is different in the United States or Britain, for example, where lateness is accepted only up to 5 or 10 minutes.

The concept (概念) of time, and its flexibility (灵活多变), meaning, and even the nature of its existence (存在) is something which is deeply laid in the base of any culture. It is very important when entering into an agreement with someone, whether socially, or in a business setting, to realize that they may have a different idea about the importance of deadlines and schedules. No one can be right or wrong in their own way, but still people can be accidentally insulted (冒犯) as a result of a misunderstanding.

【1】From the first paragraph, we can know that ________.

A.people think of time as a sign of culture

B.people have different opinions about time

C.time is about what's going on right now

D.time is either a planned object or a machine

【2】The past might be thought of as the most important because ________.

A.it helps us to make present decisions

B.it helps us to plan for the future

    C.traditions bring us much pride

D.old countries have a long history

    【3】Which example best describes a present-oriented culture?

    A.Making a plan for tomorrow's work.

B.Planning a tour to the Forbidden City.

    C.Eating dumplings during a festival.

D.Never paying attention to the weather report.

【4】What is the best title for the passage?

    A.The Concept of Time

    B.The Importance of Time

    C.The Tradition of Time

    D.The Management of Time

  • 22、Lu Xun is one of the greatest Chinese writers of the 20th century. Besides his famous stories, he also wrote many influential articles about the living conditions of Chinese people.

Born in 1881 to a wealthy family, Lu Xun had a happy childhood. In 1893, however, his grandfather, a senior government official, was put into prison for taking money. At the same time, his father became seriously ill. From that time on, his family was no longer accepted by their relatives and friends. These early experiences greatly influenced his writing.

By the time Lu Xun arrived in Nanjing to study at university in 1899, he already believed that Chinese society had to change and become modern. In 1902 he went to study in Japan. There he began writing articles for several Chinese student magazines. He showed a gift for writing and translating and he even wrote several books, although none was popular. He returned to China in 1909 because he was in need of money.

After working for several years as a teacher in Beijing, Lu Xun again returned to writing. In 1918, he wrote his famous short story Diary of a Madman. It was the first Chinese novel published using the everyday language that people spoke, which helped make it a great success. This, together with his novel The True Story of Ah Q(1921), made Lu Xun a leading Chinese writer.

Although successful, Lu Xun still worried greatly about China’s future. In 1927, he moved to Shanghai and gave up writing stories in order to devote himself to what he called “pen warfare”. He only wrote articles which called on the people to fight against the government. For this, the government stopped him from publishing any more books. He was forced to write his articles using false names.

Since his death in 1936, Lu Xun’s importance and influence have grown. Today, many of his writings are included in school textbooks and his works are read by millions of people around the world.

1Which of the following greatly influenced Lu Xun’s writing according to the passage?

    A. The people he met in Japan.

  • 23、The two sessions in Beijing are the talks of the town in China now. The annual session of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC, 中国人民政治协商会议) started on May 21. The annual session of the National People’s Congress (CNPC, 全国人民代表大会) started on May 22.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, some changes took place for this year’s two sessions. Online communication is used for public health, as well as smooth (顺利的)communication for the meetings.

For example, the CPPCC National Committee’s new online platform has been used to collect opinions and suggestions from netizens since May 8. This helped CPPCC members learn more about public opinions before they gathered in Beijing, China Daily reported.

Each year, the heads of different kinds of State Council departments sit in on meetings during the two sessions to hear different views on the government’s work. But this year, the officials will attend the meetings through video conferences (会议) and phone calls. Compared to last year, the number of reporters at the two sessions has been cut. Some press conferences (新闻发布会) and interviews with ministers (部长) will be carried out online, Global Times noted.

Information in Chinese and other languages will be posted on the two sessions’ news center website. The news center will provide services to Chinese and foreign journalists (记者), Zhang Yesui, chairman of the NPC Foreign Affairs Committee, told Xinhua.

  • 24、   I ran into a stranger as he passed by. "Oh, excuse me, please" was my reply. He said: "Please, excuse me too; I wasn't even watching for you."

We were very polite, this stranger and I. We went on our way and we said goodbye. But at home a different story is told-how we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, when I was cooking the evening meal, my daughter stood beside me very still. When I turned, I nearly knocked her down. "Move out of the way." I said with a frown. She  walked away, her little heart was broken. I didn't realize how cruelly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed that evening, my husband said to me, "While dealing with a stranger, common courtesy(彬彬有礼) you use, but the children you love, you seem to abuse. Look on the kitchen floor and you'll find some flowers there by the door. Those are the flowers she brought for you. She picked them herself: pink, yellow and blue. She stood quietly not to spoil the surprise, and you never saw the tears in her eyes." By this time, I felt very small, and my tears began to fall. I quietly went and knelt down by her bed. "Wake up, little girl," I said. "Are these flowers you picked for me?" She smiled: "I found them out by the tree. I picked them because they're pretty like you. I knew you'd like them, especially the blue."

I said: "Daughter, I'm sorry for the way I acted today. I should not have yelled at you that way."

She said: "Oh Mom, that's okay. I love you anyway."

I said: "Daughter, I love you too. And I do like the flowers, especially the blue."

Are you aware that: If you die tomorrow, the company that you are working for could easily replace you in a matter of days. But the family you leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into our work than into our families-an unwise investment indeed.
