21、Chinese Culture Shown to the World with Love
Li Ziqi, a short video blogger specializing in traditional Chinese cooking and handicrafts, has gained worldwide popularity.
Li has about 20 million followers on Sina Weibo, China’s equivalent to Twitter, plus 7 million followers on overseas social media networks. Many foreigners say they have got to know traditional Chinese food culture via her channel.
It is the spirit of craftsmanship behind her works that makes Li’s video clips attractive. She strictly follows the authentic traditional steps and procedures in making traditional Chinese food and handicrafts, such as peach flower wine and silk, and goes to great lengths to ensure her videos are accurate. Sometimes she spends several months producing one of her videos.
Li has been inheriting traditional Chinese culture in a rather creative way. A closer look at her videos will show that they are never with any “analysis” that makes people feel bored. They just show audiences each and every detail of traditional Chinese culture so that the latter knows how Chinese live their beautiful and elegant lives. It is that universal appeal that makes her works so attractive. Thanks to Li's efforts, many intangible cultural heritages that only existed in memories and written records now appear before our eyes. Via her short videos, Li presents the image of a beautiful and friendly China.
With the growth of the Chinese economy, people overseas are showing more interest in traditional Chinese culture. Li has shown how to satisfy that interest in a good way, namely showing the best parts of traditional Chinese culture with her heart.

22、In Australia, November is the final exam season, and for high school students, it’s one of the most important exams. 【1】 It is a stressful period for everyone. However, from my countless exam experiences, I have some tips and tricks that have helped me handle final exams.
Start early.
Although the official exam preparation period starts about one week before the final exam period, I usually start my review about two weeks earlier. Let’s admit it — no one in week 12, after being bombarded by countless assignments and tests will have any memory about the content taught in week one. 【2】 This helps me identify the parts that I do not understand very well, so that I can catch up, ask questions when teachers are not so busy and prepare myself to do practice exams later more efficiently.
Live healthily.
A lot of people stay up late reviewing before the exam, but that is not healthy at all. Sleep is necessary to restore our physical and mental functions. In particular, sleep can help consolidate (巩固) our memories! I recommend this based on my personal experience — I always feel drained the next day if I go to sleep after 2 am. Without enough sleep, I cannot stay productive and would stare at simple questions for a long time. 【3】
【4】
This may not work for everyone, but I personally find it helpful, especially after the long lockdown where I was stuck at home and studied alone. Having friends to study with not only provides us with opportunities to figure out blind spots in our understanding, but also allows us to have different perspectives, which is helpful in terms of problem-solving. 【5】 And talking to them can ease my anxiety caused by the exams. I personally recommend it.
A.Study with friends.
B.Reviewing your lessons earlier gives you a definite advantage over others.
C.Also, the presence of friends can motivate me to stay productive.
D.Get along well with friends
E.So November is a month for studying hard!
F.Sacrificing sleep time for review is not worth it.
G.I usually go through the notes I took throughout the semester to refresh my memory.
23、Expensive and new gloves allow chatterboxes(话匣子)to take the term “handsfree” to a new level—by talking into them as they make a call. The gloves are known as “Talk to the Hand” and cost £1,000 a pair. They fixed a speaker unit into the thumb and a microphone into the little finger that can be connected to any mobile handset using Bluetooth.
Artist Sean Miles designed the new gloves that double as a phone in part of his project that shows the possibilities of gadget(小装置,小机械) recycling. He uses outdated gloves and combines them with parts from mobile handsets recycled through O2, which commissioned(承担)the project. Mobile phone users will be able to keep their hands warm while they chat without taking their phones out of their pockets or handbags.
Mr Miles designed two pairs of the new gloves—one in pink and the other in brown and yellow. They will appear in an exhibition this July and visitors will be able to win the gloves. If demand is high, they will then be produced on a larger scale. O2 Recycle, which backed the project, estimates that there are already 70 million unused mobile handsets in the UK. The service pays up to £260 to those who recycle gadgets including phones, handheld consoles, MP3 players and digital cameras.
Designer Sean Miles hopes his work will get people thinking about recycling. The 41-year-old said, “I hope that my ‘Talk to the Hand’ project will get people to think again about the waste created by not recycling gadgets. If a few more people recycle their gadgets rather than send them to trash, I think this project will have fulfilled its aim.”
Bill Eyres, head of O2 Recycle, urges people to recycle their phone responsibly. He said, “There’s a pressing need for all of us to look at outdated handsets, and all the gadgets that we move on from or upgrade each year. Whether they are consoles or cameras, we should think of them as a resource that we need to recycle responsibly rather than throw them away.”
【1】 The underlined word “O2” in Paragraph 2 is probably the name of ______.

C. a mobile D. an exhibition
【2】Consumers can buy the “Talk to the Hand” gloves ______.

24、When Dr. Kwane Stewart, a veterinarian(兽医), spots a homeless person with a dog while he' s driving to work, he doesn't look away uncomfortably and step on the gas.
Instead, he pulls over, grabs his bag stocked with medical supplies, and asks the person, “Is there anything your pet can use?”
For nearly a decade, Stewart has volunteered to help pets of the homeless in California. Stewart never expected this to become his life' s calling. It goes back to the Great Recession, when he was working as a veterinarian at an animal shelter and was astonished by the number of stray animals (流浪动物)who needed help.
Sometimes when he offers to help a pet, he's turned down by homeless people who suspect his motives. But when they do accept his help, everything changes.
Stewart remembered an experience with a man named Mike and his dog who was going blind. Mike had cancer but said to Stewart, “I would much sooner have you help her if you could than be cured of my cancer. "Stewart relieved the dog's painful condition with treatments, for which the man was extremely grateful.
While he's heard comments that homeless people shouldn't have pets, Stewart doesn't share that opinion because he's seen the benefits both to people and the animals themselves. “They offer hope to each other and that is the power of pet companionship,” he said.
Stewart hopes to challenge prejudice (偏见)against homeless people through a TV show, in which he stars, called “The Street Vet”.
Out on the streets, the most common illnesses Stewart sees are infections. In the past, he would pay for it out of his own pocket. Still, costs add up, so he started crowdfunding (众筹) last fall. Inspired by his efforts, the fundraising site GoFundMe named him the February GoFundMe Hero.
Stewart has no intention (打算) of slowing down. “I don't plan on stopping anytime as long as I have the strength to do it, ” he said.
【1】How does Stewart react to the homeless person mentioned in paragraph 1?
A.He looks away pityingly.
B.He speeds up to avoid him.
C.He gives him and his dog some food.
D.He offers to give medical care to his dog.
【2】What inspired Stewart to begin his career?
A.A TV show.
B.What he learned at school.
C.What he saw at an animal shelter.
D.An experience with a homeless man.
【3】What is Stewart' s opinion on the homeless keeping a pet?
A.It limits animals' freedom.
B.It requires much time and effort.
C.It gives homeless people companionship.
D.It should be banned among homeless people.
【4】What will Stewart do in the future?
A.Work for GoFundMe.
B.Star in“The Street Vet”。
C.Stop working as a veterinarian.
D.Continue to help the homeless' pets.
