21、According to a survey, the waste of food on the dining table occupies 10% of the total grain output. Last week Meituan co-published a proposal with a number of business organizations, calling on restaurants to stop food waste and help develop new eating habits for customers. “Restaurants should use official accounts on social media and live-streaming to promote and advocate food-saving actions,” the proposal said.
Meituan and the organizations are advocating that merchants offer guidance for consumers, including reminding them during the ordering process about the taste of the ingredients, portion sizes and other information about the dishes, to help them avoid food waste due to misleading information.
Catering associations in more than 18 provinces have also joined the campaign to remove food waste. The Wuhan Catering Association proposed an “N-1” ordering code for restaurants in which a group of 10 diners would only order enough for nine people. More food is only brought to the table if required. It has inspired people to rethink their relationship with food and waste.
On Friday, the China Cuisine Association announced that it had teamed up with Ele. me, a food delivery platform, to launch a “ half-dish plan", encouraging restaurants to provide customers with the option to order smaller portions. Besides, customers are encouraged to take their leftovers home.
To reduce food waste on social media platforms, some popular video platforms have stepped up content reviews of food-related live streams and implemented regulation of online eating shows. Now, if users search certain keywords, such as “eating show" or “competitive eaters", a cautionary message pops up to remind them to cherish food and keep a reasonable diet.

22、 It was February and Danny Filippidis and his friends were skiing around. After a few days of fun and relaxation, their annual trip was coming to a close. Danny wanted to capture a few more memories of it to post online when they got home. The problem was, he'd left his cell phone in the car.
By the time Danny realized this, he and his friends were already halfway up Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid. Not wanting to miss a moment, he told his friends to wait while he skied back down to fetch the phone. Danny was an adult and an experienced skier, so they had no reason to doubt his eventual return.
However, it wasn't until it began to get dark that his friends finally realized something may have gone wrong. They alerted(报警) the authorities, who began a ground search in no time. Before long, his family and friends came down to help as well. But Danny was nowhere to be found.
What the rescue teams didn't know at the time was that, by the time the alarm went out, Danny wasn't even in Lake Placid anymore. He'd taken a wrong turn on his way back to the car, falling down and becoming knocked out. It was dusk by the time he woke up, not knowing where he was.
Danny struggled his way to the road. He flagged down a truck in the hope of securing a ride off the mountain. The truck stopped and he climbed into the warm cab. After telling the trucker where he was going, he fell into a heavy sleep. When the trucker finally informed him that they had arrived, it had been midnight, when his family and friends were still searching the cold wilderness for any sign of him.
Danny often reflects on what might have happened if he hadn't been found by that trucker. To this day, Danny Filippidis doesn’t know the trucker' s name. He doubts whether he could even point him out if he saw him on the street and the authorities have been unable to track the man down as well.

C.The authorities took no action at all. D.The trucker was hard to recognize.
23、As the Ukraine-Russia conflict worsens, only diplomatic dialogue and negotiations can bring peace, analysts say. And as for this, India can play a useful role, they said. India has been advocating “dialogue and diplomacy” as a solution, said Karori Singh, retired fellow of the South Asia Studies Centre at India's University of Rajasthan.
Singh noted that the United Nations and most countries have appealed to both sides to control and reduce the conflict, while North Atlantic Treaty Organization member states imposed economic sanctions(制裁)on Russia. “Such sanctions will make every nation suffer, not merely Russia, and the world economy will again slow down,” Singh said, expressing a view that sanctions or restrictions could prove of the opposite result.
Countries must “try to avoid expanding alliances(盟国) which are harmful to the security of other countries” while pushing for peace, he said. The focus must be on “the common challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, widening inequality, climate change and extreme poverty”, said Singh, who believes that talks between Ukrainian and Russian negotiating teams are advancing in the right direction.
India's refusing to vote on UN Security Council resolutions on Ukraine has drawn criticism from media in the United States and other Western countries. On Wednesday, India refused to vote on a resolution criticizing the Russian military action in Ukraine. Western countries have also tried to persuade India to rebuke and sanction Moscow, with politicians in Washington even urging India to “take a clear position”. And some media reports have suggested that the US could be weighing potential sanctions on India. Swaran Singh, professor of diplomacy at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, said India is “calling all sides to ensure respect for sovereignty(主权)”.
“Guided especially by its need to safely bring back large numbers of Indian citizens in Ukraine, New Delhi's position has made India far more active in its engagement with this conflict,” he said. T. S. Tirumurti, India's permanent representative to the UN, said on Wednesday that India's most urgent thing to do is to guarantee the “safe and uninterrupted passage” of Indian citizens, reported The Hindu newspaper. Data from Ukraine's Education and Science Ministry showed that there were 18, 095 Indian students in Ukrainian universities in 2020.
【1】How can the security of countries be guaranteed to some degree according to Karori Singh?
A.By avoiding widening inequality.
