二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Single - use plastic waste is a huge problem, worsened these days by the fact that people cannot go out to many places to eat and have to order takeout. It’s been really hard on those companies that were trying to do something about the waste. Now, many businesses in New York have signed up with a new operation, DeliverZero.

New Yorkers do order a lot of takeout and don’t want to stop doing that since they are too busy to cook on their own. However, takeout consumes countless containers. And the containers — used once and for mere seconds — usually sit in landfills as far as 400 miles away from NYC.

But with DeliverZero, you get your order in reusable containers. There is no deposits (押金); you just return them to the delivery person the next time you order, or you drop them off at any of the restaurants on the platform.

When asked why DeliverZero doesn’t call for deposits, founder Adam Farbiarz explained, “When we started, we were collecting deposits. But that made everyone’s head spin because they had to choose how many containers they needed. It became complex to collect deposits while giving the restaurant the flexibility to pack the food. So now we just let the restaurant use containers as they want. After the restaurant packs the food, the customer gets an email that says, ‘You’re getting X containers with your meal.’ If the customer doesn’t return the containers within 6 weeks, we charge them. And the system works! Restaurants have no problem counting the containers, and customers appreciate that the restaurant has the freedom to use containers in a manner that best packages the food.”

DeliverZero shows that takeout doesn’t have to be related to single - use packaging. It is just starting out and is only in New York for now, but the founder said, “We have plans to march into other cities as quickly as we can. We are hoping to make a contribution to going zero waste and building a truly circular food delivery system.”

【1】What problem does takeout usually cause according to the text?

    A.Higher cost for many restaurants.

    B.Poorer health of most customers.

    C.Increasing single use plastic waste.

D.Fewer food choices for New Yorkers.

【2】Why did DeliverZero stop collecting deposits for containers?

A.To test if its monitoring system works.

B.To simplify the whole operation process.

    C.To relieve businesses’ financial pressure.

D.To help consumers develop a good habit.

【3】What does Adam Farbiarz say about DeliverZero?

    A.It will be expanded.

    B.It is facing many barriers.

C.It needs to improve its technology.

    D.It has won recognition worldwide.

【4】What is the text mainly about?

A.A platform allowing ordering food in reusable containers.

B.A concept of building a truly circular food delivery system.

C.A new operation based on deposit - free single - use packaging.

D.A system making food delivery more convenient and simpler.

  • 22、Japanese archaeologists (考古学家) have uncovered al 7.5-foot-long irons sword and a bronze mirror from an ancient tomb near the city of Nara. Researchers found both artifacts while unearthing a l,600-year-old site called Tomio Maruyama.

The weapon, known as a dako sword, is so large that it was likely never used for self-defense, serving instead as a means of protection against evil after death. Like other dako swords unearthed in the country, this one looks like a snake. Due to the artifact’s size, the researchers initially thought they had found multiple swords lined up next to each other.

Experts said the mirror, which is shaped like a shield (盾), was also likely used to shun evil spirits. It measures 25 inches by 12 inches and weighs more than 12 pounds, making it the largest of its kind discovered in Japan, too.

The finds offer new insights into the Kofun period, which lasted from around the year 250 AD to 538 AD and is named for the distinctive tomb mounds, constructed to bury members of the ruling class. Kosaku Okabayashi, the deputy director for Nara prefecture’s Archaeological Institute of Kashihara, said, “These discoveries indicate that the technology of the Kofun period is beyond what had been imagined, and they are masterpieces in metalwork from that period.”

Japan is home to an estimated 160,000 burial mounds from the Kofun period, though the Tomio Maruyama kofun is particularly large. Measuring 350 feet in diameter and up to 32 feet tall, it dates back to the late fourth century.

Archaeologists think it has some connection to an influential person who supported the rulers of the day, the imperial Yamato family. Based on the presence of the two artifacts, the dead person may have been involved in military and ritualistic matters. So far, the researchers have discovered a coffin but no human remains in the burial chamber.

【1】How did researchers find an irons sword and a bronze mirror?

    A.By exploring an old tomb.

    B.By asking experienced local villagers.

C.By searching for much information online.

    D.By carefully studying historical materials.

【2】What do we know about the iron sword?

A.It is in a very small size.

B.It looks like a sharp shield.

C.It was mainly used for self-defense.

D.It might be used to drive the evil away.

【3】What does the underlined word “shun” in paragraph 3mean?

    A.Schedule.

    B.Design.

    C.Avoid.

    D.Express.

【4】What is Kosaku Okabayashi’s attitude towards the two discoveries in paragraph 4?

    A.Negative.

    B.Appreciative.

    C.Unclear.

    D.Indifferent.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

That year, my father worked abroad — and couldn’t come back for Christmas. My mother, sister and I had to make our own Christmas decorations.

My mother and I dragged in the final section of our seven-foot artificial Christmas tree from the garage. Before setting the tree in its stand, we moved our sofa over so we would have the room needed for our large tree to fit in the living room. In a moment, we would form the branches that would hold our decorations.

Everything was going smoothly, and my sister announced the stand was ready. Mother and I lifted the bottom section of the tree and were about to place it into the stand when I heard a scream. It was so loud that I assumed someone had broken into our home.

“A mouse! A mouse!” screamed my sister. She screamed just as loud, and jumped up on the sofa as the baby mouse ran to one side of our living room and then the other. Because of the loud screams, the mouse was frightened. The little creature had obviously found a home in our Christmas tree. Once we brought the tree inside and opened the branches, the baby mouse fell out of its temporary home and ran across our living room.

“Get the mouse!” my sister screamed.

It was so tiny and quick that I wasn’t sure what to do. I tried grabbing its long gray tail, but it slipped away. Then I ran to our bedroom and came back with an empty shoebox and a fly swatter (蝇拍). My plan was to stun (打晕) the little mouse and put it in the box.

I was about to hit it with the swatter when my sister shouted out, “Don’t kill it! It’s a baby and kind of cute.” My mother agreed with her, and I could tell by its frightened eyes that the little mouse did, too.

    注意:

    1.续写词数应为150左右;
