二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、In 2019, I rescued a hot-blooded donkey. Bo came from a nearby cattle ranch and now lives peacefully on my farm, along with another donkey, three horses, and two dogs. But the key to Bo’s successful changing from nervous to happy animal wasn’t anything I did. It was my grandson, Dylan.

When he was just shy of four years old, Dylan came with his parents to spend the Fourth of July with me on their way to Canada for a vacation. Bo kept his distance from the grown-ups, but he displayed an unusual fascination with Dylan, so we decided to introduce them.

Dylan cautiously approached Bo, step by step, holding a soft rubber currycomb. Bo held his ground, but he seemed intrigued by this little visitor. Dylan rubbed Bo’s shoulders and neck softly with the comb. It was hard for an almost four-year-old to stay still for long. To witness a preschooler learn to control himself in such a short time was amazing.

As we watched, true love developed between this once distrustful donkey and a gentle boy. Over the next few days, Bo let Dylan pet his legs, hold his head in his hands. And Dylan felt free to sit at Bo’s feet while Bo carefully nibbled(小口咬)his shirt collar and hair and rubbed Dylan’s back with his rough chin. Just as Dylan had earned Bo’s trust, Bo showed restraint with Dylan. He hugged Dylan-yes, a donkey can hug-without knocking him of balance. They met again one week later as the family passed through on their return trip. Bo came to meet them enthusiastically. He became a changed and trusting donkey.

And Dylan is a miracle worker who has a soft heart.

【1】How did Bo behave when it came to the farm?

    A.It was quite patient.

    B.It was bad-tempered.

    C.I was wild-minded.

    D.It was very friendly.

【2】What’s the meaning of the underlined word in the third paragraph?

    A.Annoyed.

    B.Disturbed.

    C.Scared.

    D.Interested.

【3】What did Bo do when Dylan came to the farm for the second time?

    A.It stayed in the stable.

    B.It nibbled Dylan slightly.

    C.It welcomed Dylan warmly.

    D.It jumped off enthusiastically.

【4】Which of the following can best describe Dylan?

    A.Shy but tender.

    B.Kind and brave.

    C.Calm but careless.

    D.Clever and athletic.

  • 22、With so many different kinds of plants out there, telling them apart can seem like an impossible task. But you don’t have to have a degree in botany to start putting names to the plants you come across. Learning to recognize various species begins with studying the plants’ unique physical features carefully and recording what you see.

【1】 If you spot a plant outdoors and don’t have the first clue as to what it is, start identifying it by scanning your surroundings. In particular, consider the overall climate, the conditions of the terrain, and any nearby water sources. A quick glance should be able to tell you what you’re looking at.

Study the plant’s features carefully. Whenever you come across a species you’ve never seen before, stop and take note. Look over each of the individual parts, like the stems (茎,梗), leaves, and flowers.

    【2】

Use viewing aids to take a closer look. A magnifying glass will allow you to zoom in and analyze a plant’s features in more vivid detail. Similarly, you may require a pair of binoculars or a telescopic lens when you want to inspect a particular specimen (样本) from a distance. 【3】

Write down the plant’s key features. 【4】 Be sure to make mention of attributes like size, shape, color, and texture, as well as any unique patterns or other distinguishing marks. In order to learn to identify plants on your own, you’ll need to hone (磨练) your use of descriptive language to be as precise as possible.

Ask an expert to take advantage of their firsthand experience. Show your notes and any photos you’ve taken to a botanist, gardening specialist, or respected outdoorsman and see if they can help you discover the identity of a certain plant. 【5】 People who have spent years studying plants can often pick them out by sight or description.

A.Observe the plant carefully at first.

    B.Take your environment into consideration.

C.Record each characteristic in your own words.

D.Judge the age and shape of the plants you have found.

E.Without these tools, you’ll be stuck doing a lot of guesswork.

F.You’ll have an opportunity to absorb a little of what they know.

G.Most plants can be grouped and distinguished by these structures.

  • 23、3 Tips to Boost Your Confidence

When facing a big challenge where potential failure seems to lurk at every corner, you’ve maybe heard this advice before: “Be more confident.” And most likely, your response would be; “If only it were that simple.” 【1】? Take the belief that you are valuable, worthwhile, and capable, be optimistic and certain about your abilities, and then act courageously to face a challenge head-on. This is confidence. By keeping in mind a few practical tips, we do actually have the power to cultivate our own confidence.

Picture your success when you’re beginning a difficult task, something as simple as listening to music with deep bass. 【2】. You can even strike a powerful pose or give yourself a pep talk.

Tip 2: 【3】. If you’re looking for a long-term change, consider the way you think about your abilities and talents. If you have a fixed mindset, meaning that you think your talents are locked in place, you might give up, 【4】. But if you have a growth mindset and think your abilities can improve, a challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow.

Tip 3: practice failure. Studies show that those who fail regularly and keep trying are better equipped to respond to challenges in a constructive way. They learn to try different strategies, ask others for advice, and persist. So think of a challenge you want to take on, realize it won’t be easy, accept that you’ll make mistakes, and be kind to yourself when you do. Give yourself a pep talk, stand up, and go for it. 【5】.
