  • 21、Chinese television maker Skyworth Group is strengthening efforts to venture into the 5G-powered 8K ultra-high definition TV section, especially the whole industrial chain related to the top-notch 8K technology, as it aims to grab a bigger slice of the country’s high-end TV market.

Wang Zhiguo, chairman and president of Shenzhen Skyworth-RGB Electronic, said the company is committed to providing a complete 8K solution that covers 8K video cameras, monitors, content creation and cloud operating systems, and expands application in a wide range of fields such as aerial photography, education, healthcare and advertising.

The company uncovered its new 8K TV product Q71, which supports 8K signal reception, decoding, image signal processing and screen display. The 8K TVs have a screen resolution ratio that is 4.3 times clearer than human eyesight and four times higher than the 4K ones. 8K UHD livestreaming and cloud-based broadcasting will give viewers a more immersive experience.

“5G offers technological support for the adoption of 8K, while 8K is one of the best application scenarios of the superfast wireless technology, ” said Wu Wei, chief engineer of Skyworth, adding 5G has the advantages of high speed, large capacity and low latency, which brings about a good opportunity for the popularization of 8K ultra-high definition TV. And the country’s 8K video industry will see robust growth with the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, which will use 8K UHD livestreaming and transmission.

The domestic 8K TV industry is now in a nascent stage, Wu said, adding that Skyworth will intensify research and development efforts in 8K chips to improve the clarity, contrast and brightness of images.

“While there is a shortage of 8K video content, which requires advanced, professional equipment such as special cameras and monitors, increasing the cost of producing content, with the advent of superfast 5G technology and the popularization of big TVs, 8K has created many opportunities. The broadcasting of sporting events via 8K equipment has also motivated people to demand high-definition image quality,” said Liu Fei, research director of the consumer electronics department of Skyworth.

  • 22、   Researchers from Stockholm University, the Institute for Future Studies, and the University of South Carolina teamed up to find out if generosity really pays off. The results, published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, reveal that unselfish people tend both to have more children and earn higher salaries than selfish people.

“The result is clear in both the American and the European data. The most unselfish people have the most children and the moderately (适度地) unselfish receive the highest salaries. And we also find this result over time: the people who are most generous at one point in time have the largest salary,” explains Kimmo Eriksson, a researcher at the Centre for Cultural Evolution at Stockholm University and one of the authors of the study.

Previous psychological and sociological (社会学的) research has shown that selfless people feel happier and have better social relationships, but scientists can now see the benefits of generosity in other areas of life including income and fertility (生育能力).

“The results of this study showed that people generally have the correct expectation that selfish people have fewer children, but erroneously believe that selfish people will make more money. It is nice to see that generosity so often pays off in the long run says Pontus Strimling, a researcher at the Institute for Futures Studies and co-author behind the study.

The researchers believe that prosocial (亲社会的) behaviors help generous people in succeeding from an economic perspective. Although the study does not definitively answer this question, it makes sense that unselfish people, who tend to give their time and energy more willingly to help others would thrive (兴旺) in business relationships and teamwork settings. On the other hand, acting in self-interest has poorer outcomes including lower incomes.

Co-author, Brent Simpson of the University of South Carolina adds, Future research will have to explore deeper into the reasons why generous people earn more and look at whether the link between unselfishness, higher salaries, and more children also exists in other parts of the world.

1What do the researchers find in the study?

A.Selfish people prefer to do better jobs.

B.Selfish people want to have more children.

C.Generous people actually earn more money.

D.Generous people are willing to pay off their debts.

2What does the underlined word “erroneously” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?

    A.Wrongly. B.Certainly.

    C.Firmly. D.Usually.

3Which of the following would the researchers agree to?

A.Selfish people tend to make others to be successful.

B.Unselfish people enjoy working with others in a group.

C.Selfish people devote more time and energy to their job.

D.Unselfish people prefer to finish their jobs on their own.

4What will the researchers study in the future?

A.Why generous people are more popular.

B.Why being generous have better outcomes.

C.If unselfishness leads to better pay and productivity.

D.Whether generosity pays off in other parts of the world.

  • 24、Everyone thinks they're great listeners. But the truth is that hearing isn’t necessarily listening, nor is it necessarily listening well. Listening is an art as well as a basic life skill that we are encouraged to practise and master.【1】

    ●Don't interrupt

【2】 To master the art of listening, you need to stop any good thoughts that come to mind and let the person say everything they need to say. Often times people simply need someone to talk to, not someone who will cut in and give their own thoughts and opinions.

    ●Practice active listening.

To understand better in communication, you can first practice active listening. The art of listening isn't simply about staying quiet 100% of the time, it's also about asking questions, which are for clarification or for further explanation, so that you can fully understand what the speaker is telling you. 【3】 You can also make noises that show you agree with what he person is saying such as “yes”, ‘'yeah", and “okay.”

    【4】

About 60-75% of our communication is accomplished without speaking. In order to know whether to encourage the speaker, or to open yourself more, it's essential to know what the person's body is saying. Do they display signs of discomfort? Are they cautious about you? Their body language tells a lot.

    ●Create a suitable environment.

It can be difficult to listen to another person when the TV is screaming, your phone is buzzing and there are thousands of cars passing by. 【5】 Also, when you indicate it would be good to “find a quiet place," you put importance in the person and what they say, and then you show care and consideration.

    A.Listen to non-verbal communication.

B.Let the person speak without interruption.

C.Listen without forming responses in your mind.

D.Here's how to bring the vital life skill into your daily existence.

E.Additionally, it's important to hold back your negative judgments.

F.Another great way to show your understanding is to respond by nodding.

G.When you remove the distractions and find a quiet place it’s easier to listen attentively.
