二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Engineers at the University of California San Diego have developed a new method that doesn't require any special equipment and works in just minutes to create soft, flexible,3D-prnted robots.

The innovation comes from rethinking the way soft robots are built : instead of figuring out how to add soft materials to a rigid robot body, the UC San Diego researcher started with a soft body and added rigid features to key components. The strictures were inspired by insect exoskeletons, which have both soft and rigid parts — the researchers called their creations

“flexoskeletons (柔性外骨骼)”.The new method allows for the construction of soft components for robots in a small bit of the time previously needed and for a small bit of the cost.

“We hope that these flexoskeletons will lead to the creation of a new class of soft robots, ” said Nick Gravish a mechanical engineering professor at the Jacobs School of Engineering at the UC San Diego and the paper ’ s senior author. “ We want to make soft robots easier to build for researchers all over the world. ”

The new method makes it possible to build large groups of flexoskeleton robots with little hand assembly (装配)as well as assemble a library of Lego-like components so that robot parts can be easily swapped.

Researchers detail their work in the April 7 issue of the journal Soft Robotics. The team plans to make their designs available to researchers at other institutions as well as high schools.

One flexoskeleton component takes 10 minutes to print and costs less than $1. Flexokeleton printing can be done on most low-cost commercially available printers. Printing and assembling a whole robot takes under two hours.

The final goal is to create an assembly line that prints whole flexoskeleton robots without any need for hand assembly. These small robots could do as much work as one massive robot on its own — or more.

1What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?

A.The origin of the new method.

B.The function of the new method.

C.The advantages of the new method.

D.The cost of the new method.

    2What’s Nick’s attitude towards flexoskeletons?

    A.Indifferent. B.Skeptical.

    C.Curious. D.Hopeful.

3What will researchers intend to do with flexoskeletons?

    A.Benefit moss students.

B.Produce a lot of flexoskeleton robots.

    C.Build robots by hand.

    D.Create many larger ones.

4What can be the best title for the text?

A.New Robos Made of Special Equipment and Materials

B.A New Method of Building Giant,Soft and Flexible Robots

C.Flexoskeletons Make Soft Robots Faster and Cheaper to Make

D.Flexoskeletons Create Lots of Soft Robots with Hand Assembly

  • 22、   Like many of us, Brittney Woodrum had a lot of plans for 2020. The University of Denver graduate student was going to travel the world and continue her work for the various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) she'd been working for before graduate school. However, when a serious infectious disease started, Woodrum began to accept that her travel plans would have to be put on hold. But what she couldn't accept was staying at home and “waiting this thing out.”

So, the Kentucky native began to look for an organization she could partner with to get the most out of her newly flexible schedule. She quickly found and committed to Shelterbox — a mostly volunteer-run organization that provides emergency shelter and tools for displaced families around the world — recognized internationally by the green box which physically holds the relief products. She joined as an ambassadress and learned that participating in physically challenging projects with the bluish-green box was central to the organization's mission.

As a hiker and lover of the outdoors, the 27-year-old decided she was going to climb all 58 of Colorado's 14,000 feet mountains with the goal of raising awareness and funding for families around the world who have lost their homes and are now facing the threat of the disease. 78 days and nearly 600 miles of hiking later, Woodrum raised $85,000 from friends, family and strangers around the world.

Woodrum said because the project came together so quickly, she didn't think she would raise more than $ 5,000. Word seemed to spread very quickly and a lot of people were equally moved by Shelterbox's mission and what I was doing," she said. "I have a large amount of gratitude to everyone who came out to support me both virtually and physically.”

The journey was not easy. “There were a lot of variables (可变因素) involved, from the weather to my health and well-being.” She said, “I am so relieved that everything went better than expected.”

【1】What can we learn about Shelterbox?

  • 23、Virginia, 70, is a massage therapist (按摩治疗师) from Canada who recently decided to transform a 2016 Ford Transit into her new home and take to 24/7 van (厢式货车) life! After a client introduced her to a television series about tiny house living, Virginia thought, “I could do that!” And that’s exactly what she did! After 38 years as a massage therapist, Virginia watched this show and thought about retirement for the very first time.

She enlisted the help of her daughter and friends to put all the bits and pieces of the van together, but Virginia made sure to have a hand in almost every part of the process. You can see her personality woven throughout the van in features like the ceiling, wood quilted doors, and even the tiny space reserved for her massage table!

One of Virginia’s favorite parts of van life is the accepting community, regardless of how old you are or where you come from. “There are young people and older people and they all seem to accept one another because age isn’t the priority — it’s that we’re in a van life and we have that similarity, so it’s quite lovely,” Virginia said. “I love it.”

This was a future Virginia never expected, but she wouldn’t trade any of it! “You don’t know what you’re going to be doing in four or five days,” Virginia explained. “Someone can say to you, ‘ Well, I’m going to Joshua Tree.’ And you go, ‘Joshua Tree! I never go to Joshua Tree.’ And that can be what you do next! I love that part of it.”

She hopes to encourage others not to let factors like age or “what if” questions keep them from running toward their goals. “Start! Don’t dream,” she said. “One foot in front of the other.”

Can we be Virginia when we grow up? What an incredible reminder that it’s never too late to pursue our dreams!

【1】What does Para.1 tell us about Virginia?

A.She is a daring old woman.

    B.She worked for Ford company.

    C.She often watched television series.

D.She wanted to changed her job.

【2】What did Virginia do to adapt her van?

    A.Asking help from workers.

B.Decorating the van according to her taste.

C.Having a big section left for her massage table.

D.Involving herself in the beginning of the process.

【3】Which of the following best describes Virginia’s van life?

    A.Dangerous

    B.Fascinating

    C.Costly

    D.Ambitious

【4】What can we learn from Virginia’s story?

    A.Hard work pays off.

    B.Love breaks down barriers.

C.Running for dreams regardless of age.

D.Travelling is a better way than reading.

  • 24、“Regret is a possible element of any decision that we make,” says psychologist Robert Leahy. “But the likelihood that you will regret your decisions will depend on how you think about making your decisions and how you cope with living with the result.”

If you’re someone who lets past regrets fester(溃烂)in your mind, Leahy recommends that you fight against irrational(非理性的)thinking and think more realistically about where you are in life.【1】 Here are some of his tips.

Remember that you don’t know things would have turned out better. If you imagine your life would have been better if only…, keep in mind that your assumption is not based on real evidence. 【2】 Instead, turn toward the future and remember it can change based on the choices you make now.

【3】Your negativity bias can keep you preoccupied with what’s wrong rather than what’s right. So, it’s a good idea to practise gratitude for the good in your life—even for the small and simple things. This helps to balance out the negative feelings that come with regret.

Don’t forget that sometimes things don’t turn out the way you wanted them to.【4】You cannot know anything in advance, so you need to accept that sometimes you will regret your choices. But that doesn’t mean you should criticize yourself endlessly. It’s better to learn from your mistakes than to punish yourself.

Accept tradeoffs(折中)and compromises. Not everything has to turn out just the way you wanted it to. You won’t make progress if you insist otherwise and make yourself miserable(痛苦的)in the process.【5】.

A.Be grateful for your past mistakes.

B.Don’t focus on where you might have been.

C.We will share some effective methods with you.

D.Focus on the positive aspects of your current life.

E.So, aim to be a satisficer rather than a maximizer.

F.Life can hand you lemons, but that’s not necessarily your fault.

G.He suggests using scientific approaches to question your assumptions.
