二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、It’s become an accepted part of keeping up to date with extended family and friends, but if schoolchildren were in their parents’ shoes, the majority wouldn’t share posts of their sons and daughters online. Over 55% side they would not upload news about, or images of, their children to their social media feeds, according to survey of over 16,000 pupils by VotesforSchools.

While some were concerned about being embarrassed or the longevity of content which could remain online indefinitely, others expressed concern about their personal data being compromised. One of the pupils surveyed said, “Although our parents mean well, sometimes the consequence of a post can be disastrous."

In response to the survey, children’s mental health charity Place2Be and law firm Mishcon de Reya have produced three films ahead of the Christmas holidays-the best period for parental oversharing.

In one video, about safety online, 10-year-old Adavan said, “If you share anything with your family, you know who’s going to see it. But if you share it publicly, there are millions of people who can see your picture.”

Joe Hancock, a security lead at Mishcon de Reya, encouraged parents to share wisely. “Simple steps, such as checking your privacy settings and asking others not to share content of your children on their accounts if they have not updated their privacy settings, are a good start. And, as we found out from the children during filming, having their permission is key,” he said.

The study marks a shift away from the usual debate about teaching children to use the lnternet safely. Sandra Davis, head of the law firm’s family department, said, “Children are the experts on the real and immediate impact of sharenting(晒娃)-the full extent of which we cannot know yet. We must ensure we listen to children and take their views into consideration now in order to avoid any unintended consequences further down the line.”

【1】What’s most pupils’ attitude towards sharing posts about children?

    A.Skeptical.

    B.Unconcerned.

D.Give reasons for the result of the survey.

【3】What should parents first pay attention to according to Joe Hancock?

    A.Safety.

    B.Consequence.

    C.Wisdom.

    D.Health.

【4】What can we learn from the last paragraph?

A.Parents should take children’s opinions into account.

B.Parents should teach children to use the Internet safely.

C.Children must make sure to listen to their parents.

D.Children should avoid unintended consequences of`sharenting.

  • 22、   Two weeks ago, I had an amazing trip to my friend's house in Serawai. Serawai is the name of a sub-district in Sintang Regency, Indonesia.

At that time, I was warmly welcomed by peaceful green yard. My trip was full of unforgettable moments: great people, delicious food, new cultures. However, what left a remarkable impression on me was meeting up with my friend's dad, Fx. Ngawan. He is now working as an education supervisor in Sintang Regency.

At our first encounter, he looks like a typical Dayaknese man with dark skin. As he mentioned that he used to be an English teacher, we discovered we were a match! I am an English teacher myself. More importantly, he is a language enthusiast and a hyperpolyglot(超级多语者). During the talk, we often switched from one language to the other such as Indonesian, English, Javanese to Ahe. He is now fluent in at least 15 languages and most of them are local languages.

When he was assigned to be a teacher and education supervisor, he had to go all the way rom Serawai sub-district to Sintang Regency by motorcycle, riding about 170 km by motorcycle. The trip can take six hours if the day is bright and sunny. However, it is not uncommon for him to spend three to seven days for the journey if the raining season comes. Therefore, he has to stop at some villages if he can't continue the trip and meet up with people with so many different languages along the way. So, whenever he stops in a particular village, he learns a different language. For him, learning languages helps him to connect with people.

In our last talk, he highlighted(强调) the importance of learning languages. He hopes hat the younger generation in Indonesia start realizing that language is the gate to open up so many opportunities. Local languages are facing disappearance because more people are leaving it behind. When people stop speaking the languages, the knowledge and culture from that language will also disappear.

【1】What do the author and Ngawan have in common?

    A.Being Typical Dayaknese people.

    B.Being a hyperpolyglot.

    C.Being English teachers.

    D.Mastering several languages.

    【2】How was Ngawan's motorcycle trip?

    A.Difficult.

    B.Instructive.

    C.Exciting.

    D.Interesting.

【3】What benefit did Ngawan get in his long trip?

    A.He got enough rest.

    B.He learned some languages.

    C.He did much exercise.

    D.He made many friends.

【4】What can we infer from the last paragraph?

A.Learning languages isn't an easy job.

    B.Young people don't grasp opportunities.

C.Local languages are being more important.

D.Languages and culture are closely related.

  • 23、Ever wanted to learn a new language? Or maybe you need to speak a different language, for work or personal reasons? Here are some apps that will help you talk smartly in some nations on earth.

The standard bearer (领袖) for language-learning apps, this series of apps from Random House Digital presents real language courses that teach vocabulary and grammar with some fun interactive games thrown in.             This one hails from the U.K., where Thomas' method for learning new languages has garnered some heavy-hitter endorsements (赞同) from the likes of Woody Allen, Emma Thompson, and Stephen Fry. This one uses a novel 3-step method: you learn while listening, training, and sleeping. The app actually monitors your sleeping patterns and activates itself at the right time, playing its short sentences while you’re asleep, to enhance your recall. • 24、Four Tips for High School Graduates

Over three-million high school students are graduating this spring in the United States. Many of them will head to university in the fall. The transition (过渡) from high school to college is a major one, and successful adjustment to college has lifelong influences.

Maybe you are about to make this transition yourself or have children who are about to leave the nest. 【1】 If you know someone who is making this transition or know parents guiding their soon-to-be adult kids through this time, please take a moment to share this collection of research-based tips with them.

Be open to making new friends as soon as you set foot on campus. Even during orientation (迎新会)! 【2】 Your success in college depends, in part, on surrounding yourself with others who can support you and help you have fun.

【3】 Successful adjustment is about reaching out for help when you need it. This means trying to find the answers on your own first, but then contacting those who can help you when you can’t. That is what they are there for!

Lean on your family. Family support can give you comfort when classes get hard or you are stressed about finals. 【4】 Strong support from family is linked to lower loneliness and depression during the first year of college and higher academic adjustment including motivation and concentration.

Be confident. Feeling anxiety about communicating with fellows, professors, and speaking up in class is associated with lower adaptation during the transition to college. One of the best ways to increase your communication confidence is to practice! 【5】

B.The more you speak up in class, the easier it becomes.

C.Don’t be afraid to talk to your professors or teaching assistants.

  • 26、Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

    Blowing a Few Tops

Ever stopped to consider the upside of volcanic eruptions? It’s not all death, destruction and hot liquid rock—scientists have a plan to cool the planet by simulating one such eruption.

Solar geoengineering involves simulating a volcano by spraying aerosols(气溶胶) into the atmosphere. When they combine with oxygen, droplets of sulfuric acid (硫酸) form. These droplets reflect sunlight away from Earth, cooling the planet. All good in theory, but the consequences are largely unknown and a few could be disastrous. In a study recently published in Nature Communications, researchers led by Anthony Jones, a climate scientist from the University of Exeter, found that using this technology in the Northern Hemisphere could reduce the number of tropical winds hitting the U.S. and Caribbean. But there's an annoying exchange: more winds in the Southern Hemisphere and a drought across the Sahel region of Africa. That’s because the entire climate system is linked—disrupting one region will invariably affect another. How would a nation react if another was causing its weather to get much worse? Would that be an act of war?

There is, however, a case for using solar geoengineering on a global scale. Jones says it could be used to “take the edge off” the temperature increases scientists are predicting. It could be used while the world searches for more effective strategies.

The study also highlights a far bigger problem with solar geoengineering: its complete lack of regulation. “There’s nothing that could stop one country just doing it,” Jones says. “You only need about 100 aircraft with three flights per day. It would cost $1 billion to $10 billion per year.” He adds, “It’s deeply disturbing that we have this technology that could have such a massive influence on the climate, yet there’s just no regulation to stop countries or even organizations from doing it.”

Jones cautions that there is much about the climate system we do not understand, as well as far more work that will need to be done before solar geoengineering is considered safe—or too dangerous to even discuss.
