二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Are you happy? Most of the time, we make it hard to enjoy our lives by pursuing something that seems impossible. Happiness is possible for us all. First, we have to define what happiness is, and then reframe it if necessary.

For many, they have never-ending restrictions. I know this because I did so. I would think if only this would happen then I will finally be happy. When the great event happened, however, I didn't take the time to enjoy the moment. I just added another restriction and continued to dream of something I would never attain.

In my view, happiness is not an event nor a person. It is not a material thing, success, nor money. For me, it is gratitude. When I find the feeling of gratitude, then I find the joy. I don't make it complicated, nor take it out of my own control. I don’t put my ability to be joyful in someone else's hands.

Every day I look for things to be thankful for. I take a moment to enjoy the sunrise and sunset and give as many smiles and hugs as I can in one day. If I can’t be happy with what already have, then I wouldn’t be happy with more. I love finding the joy in simple things. When we remove the unnecessary limitations and expectations from our lives, then we open our hearts to receive more.

Recording my blessings in a gratitude journal helps me to see my life with new understanding. When I take time to thank God for all the blessing I have, I realize that I have everything that I need. I don’t spend much of my life complaining and crying about what I don’t have. Instead, I am grateful for what I have. When I change my thought process and feel gratitude. The greatest gifts in life can't be bought, or even be seen — they must be felt in our hearts.

    1Why are we unhappy?

A.We don’t have aims in life.

B.We cannot get what we want.

C.We don’t know what happiness is.

D.We always want to achieve better results.

2According to author, the key to happiness is being________.

    A.thankful B.imaginative

    C.wealthy D.simple-minded

3What is the main idea of Paragraph 4?

A.How the author found pleasure in small things.

B.How the author spent his spare time.

C.What the author cared more about.

D.What the author did to be happy.

4What is the message the author tries to convey to readers?

A.A thankful heart is a happy heart.

B.Greed is so destructive. It destroys everything.

C.Sometimes it is difficult to realize that life is so simple.

D.You'll never find peace of mind until you listen to your heart.

  • 22、China became the first country to clone a monkey using non-reproductive cells, scientists said on Thursday. By December 2017 , the Chinese Academy of Sciences had created two clone macaques(猕猴) named“Zhong Zhong” and “Hua Hua”by nuclear transferring of body cells—any cell in the organism other than reproductive cells. This was the similar technology used to create the famous clone sheep Dolly in 1996.

Telra, a monkey born in 1999 , is the world’s first ever-cloned monkey, but it was done using a simpler method called embryo splitting(胚胎分裂),and cannot be genetically modified to suit experimental needs, said Pu Muming, a leading researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Cloning a monkey using body cells has been a world-class challenge because it is a primate(灵长类)that shares its genetic makeup, therefore all of its complexity, with humans, he said.

For drug and other lab tests, scientists have to purchase monkeys from all over the world, which is costly, bad for the environment and produces inaccurate results because each monkey might have different genes, Pu said.

By cloning monkey using body cells, we can mass reproduce a large number of genetically identical monkeys in a short amount of time, and we can even change their genes to suit our needs, he added. “This can save time, cut down experiment costs, and produce more accurate results, leading to more effective medicine.”

Sun Qiang, director of the non-human primate research facility at the institute, said most of the drug trials are currently done on lab mice. However, drugs that work on mice might not work or even have severe side effects on humans because the two species are so different.

Monkeys and humans are both primates, so they are much closely related and testing on monkeys is supposed to be as effective as testing on humans. This achievement will help China lead the world research in an international science project related to study of primate brains.

1Which description of the two clone macaques is true?

    A. They were the first monkeys ever-cloned in the world.

    B. They were created using reproductive cells.

    C. They would be fed to suit experimental needs.

    D. The technology used to create them was similar to that of creating Dolly.

3What can be learned from the passage?

    A. Pu Muming and Sun Qiang were doing most work in cloning the two macaques.

    B. Genetic research on monkeys can be seen as effective as that on humans.

    C. Most drug trials have been done on mice because mice share the same genetic makeup and complexity with humans.

    D. Scientists can mass reproduce cloned monkeys to cut down experiment costs.

4This passage above can be most probably read in

    A. a science magazine

    B. a guidebook

    C. a science fiction

  • 23、Our clothes do a lot for us. They keep us warm in the winter or cool while we’re working out. They let us dress to impress or comfortably veg out on the couch with the TV on. But some researchers think our clothes could be doing even more. Those scientists and engineers are dreaming up new ways to make clothes safer, more comfortable or just more convenient.

Some ideas for new clothes aim to protect people from harm. One new shoe design, for example, features pop-out spikes (鞋钉) on the sole that grip the ground. This could help people keep their footing on slippery or uneven ground. A new fabric coating, meanwhile, could absorb and neutralize (中和) some chemical weapons. That coating is made from a metal-organic framework that breaks down harmful compounds. It could offer protection to people in war-torn countries.

Not all advanced clothing is designed to save lives. Some could just make clothes more comfortable. One day, for instance, you may not need to layer up to stay warm. Fabric filled with nanowires could reflect your body heat back onto your skin. Electric current humming through those metal threads could provide warmth, too. This maybe especially useful for hikers, soldiers or others working in super cold conditions.

Some researchers have dream up wholly new uses for clothing —like turning wearers into walking power outlets. Flexible solar panels sewn into fabric could absorb the sun to recharge phones or other devices on the go. Another team threaded fabric with magnetized (磁化的) copper and silver to write data into fabrics. Such data-packed fabric could be used as a hands-free key or form of ID.

Many of these ideas have not yet left the lab—and they’re still pretty far from hitting retail (零售) shelves. But inventors hope these and other innovations could someday let you get more from your clothes.

【1】What do the underlined words “veg out” in paragraph 1 probably mean?

    A.Relax.

    B.Stand out.

    C.Work.

【2】Why do the new shoes feature pop-out spikes on the sole?

    A.To make them comfortable.

    B.To make them fashionable.

    C.To prevent people from slipping.

D.To turn wearers into walking power outlets.

【3】What kind of clothes are suitable for hikers?

    A.Coats filled with nanowires.

B.Shoes with pop-out spikes on the sole.

C.Clothes with a new fabric coating.

    D.Clothes made of data-packed fabric.

【4】What can we infer from the last paragraph?

  • 24、While growing up, your parents probably told you to dress warmly when going outside, or else you’ll catch a cold. Now, a cold-water immersion (浸没) movement suggests that exposure to the cold actually does the opposite. 【1】

Led by a man named Wim Hof, known by some as the Ice Man, cold water immersion is gaining popularity. You may recognize his name from the documentary The Superhuman World of Wim Hof: The Iceman. Hof’s documentary retells how he found himself tragically alone with four children after his wife died in 1995. 【2】 One morning, while overlooking a cold stream in the Netherlands, he had the urge to jump in.

Feeling the intensity of that cold, Hof grew the strength to push past physical and mental limitations. He continued his practice of cold immersion alongside meditation (冥想) and breathing techniques. 【3】 It was through this practice that he discovered the physical and mental health benefits of this combination of breathwork, meditation and cold immersion.

【4】 According to a cold-water research in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, cold water can have physiological effects including an increased heart rate, faster breathing rate and higher blood pressure. And, a study of 3, 108 people, published in the journal PLoS One, found that people who take cold showers are 29 percent less likely to call in sick. The researchers concluded that cold showers could make the illnesses less severe.

So if you want to obtain the benefits of cold-water immersions, you don’t have to start by jumping into an ice bath. Hof’s programs often begin with short breathing exercises followed by a 30-second cold shower. 【5】 And they really could keep the doctor away!

A.Therefore, he started a soul search.

B.It helps prevent you from getting sick.

C.They were sick less than the control group.

D.Besides, it allowed people to do their regular routines.

E.Finally, he could remain under the icy water for minutes.

F.More authorities have confirmed benefits of cold showers.

G.Taking cold-water showers or baths can help feel stronger.

  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

That year I was ten years old and my father was away, leaving my mother and me behind. My mother was a surgeon and worked at the local clinic a few blocks from where we lived. It was a noisy and cold winter, when 1 learned a valuable 1esson.

The bell rang and thoughts of Christmas were the only thing on my mind. I raced home from school. The apartment was empty when I arrived and a note was attached to the refrigerator. My mother was working a double shin and left me instructions for the day. I became angry and tore the note in several pieces. We had planned on making Christmas biscuits together, but my mother spoiled it by working.

I suddenly realized my mother must have hidden the Christmas presents somewhere in her bedroom. I hunted through mother’s closet, finding the gifts for Christmas wrapped but one, a model plane. At the thought of my loneliness on such a night I couldn’t help but throw it onto the floor, its wings broken. I stood frozen with my eyes and mouth wide open, staring down at the plane...

Then my mother came through the door and saw the plane.

    “Danny?”

    “Yeah, Mom?”

“I came home to take the toy plane to one of my patients, but...” she said, her eyes moving from the floor to me. I stood sill, unable to come up with a good explanation for the toy’s ruin. The silence was terrible. I did not hear my mother scold me. She just leaned against the wall with her tired body. A feeling of guilt floating into my mind, I gathered my courage to tell her the horrible truth. She hugged me and asked me to put my coat on and follow her.
