二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Most sea turtles, whales and fish may have plastic in their bodies. To determine the various forms and colors of this material in marine animals, Marga Rivas at the University of Almeria in Spain and her team analyzed data from 112 studies published in the past decade. These looked for microplastics and larger macro plastics in marine species globally.

Of the studies, 80 examined the gastrointestinal tracts (胃肠道)of animals to see what they had taken in. The others also looked at wider animal tissues to identify plastics that end up in other parts of the body. After examining all of the data, Rivas and her team concluded that 66 per cent of sea turtles have white-colored macro and microplastics in their systems, while 55 percent have a distinct class of plastic called microfibers, which are shed by some fabrics (织物). The high amount of white plastic in turtles was unsurprising, says Rivas, given that plastic of this color, particularly larger pieces, may resemble jellyfish, a large part of the animals' diets.

Microfibers were also present in 80 percent of whales and dolphins - and white macro and microplastics in 38 percent of them. The researchers also concluded that clear fiber microplastics are probably the most common form of this waste that is taken in by large marine animals globally. Rivas and her colleagues also discovered that the animals with the highest rates of plastic were those in the Mediterranean and the northeast Indian Ocean.

“The Mediterranean is the most contaminated sea in the world, so we expected to find these results,” says Rivas. Marine plastic pollution has increased roughly 10-fbld since 1980, and Rivas says the problem is worsened by inadequate water treatment systems. In parts of India and the southeast Mediterranean, waste water isn’t adequately treated or recycled, she says. This means that microfibers shed by fabrics in washing machines, and larger pieces of rubbish, enter the sea. “It’s possible to introduce management strategies to control these huge threats,” says Rivas.

1How did Rivas and her team conduct the study?

    A.By doing comparative experiments.

B.By analyzing data from previous studies.

C.By determining the forms and colors of plastics.

D.By looking for plastics in global marine animals.

2Why was it unsurprising to find a large amount of white plastic in sea turtles?

A.White plastic looks like the food sea turtles consume.

B.More while plastic was in the sea than that of other colors.

C.White plastic is the most common form of the plastic waste.

D.White microfibers from fabrics were abundant in the oceans.

  • 23、I have the bad habit of skipping to the last pages of a book to see how it ends while I am still in the middle of it. 【1】

Often my impatience wouldn’t be limited just to the books I read but also to what they were reading as well. Finally one day my daughter told me in anger, “Dad please just read a book one page at a time like everyone else!”

【2】 I have also tried to skip ahead in my own life and figure out what to do months and even years from now instead of embracing each day as God intended. I knew that the book of my life wasn’t done yet and that I had many pages left to go. Still, that didn’t stop me from trying to write the ending half-way through.

Time and again, I would foolishly jump ahead and try to solve every imaginable problem before it happened so I could reach that storybook happily ever after ending. 【3】 God loves to surprise us, and you never know what new problem, change, or opportunity each new day will bring.

Recently when I found myself returning to that bad habit of rushing ahead and living in the future again, something unexpected struck into my heart. 【4】 When I realized it I smiled, turned the book of my life back to the right page, and thanked God for today.

【5】 Each of us has to live it one page and one day at a time. Each of us has to have faith in God to help us to write it line by line and moment by moment. Each of us has to trust that our Heavenly Father will bring our story to its perfect end.

A.Life, however, doesn’t work like that.

B.I realized life is always going like this.

C.There is no skipping ahead in the book of life.

D.Nevertheless, her words didn’t have much influence on me.

E.At times I haven’t limited this bad habit to just books either.

F.I heard a special soul gently telling me I needed to live one day at a time.

G.This annoyed first my Mom, then my friends, and finally even my own daughter.

    Keep Shower Doors Spotless Longer

Waterrepelling sprays (such as RainX) aren't just great for your car. Applying a coat to your shower doors will prevent the buildup of mildew(霉菌) and other residue.

    Pick Up Glass Fragments Easily

Collecting the larger pieces of a broken glass or dish is usually easy enough, but picking up those tiny slivers and shards can be tricky. One way to do it is to press a slice of soft bread over the area. Just be careful not to cut yourself when you toss the bread in the garbage.

    Sweeten Your Yogurt Without Sugar

Flavored yogurts often contain dozens of grams of sugar, but plain yogurt can be pretty blah. Add flavor without many calories with a few drops of vanilla, mint, or almond extract. You can also microwave your favourite into a compote(蜜饯) and, once it's cool, swirl it into the yogurt.

    Spend Less on Hotel Rooms

Weekend bookers tend to luck out when it comes to snagging the best rate. Prices are lowest on Fridays and Saturdays, according to the most recent data from travel site kayak.com. Absolutely avoid booking on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, when prices are highest.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

First Offer: Take It or Keep Waiting

Anyone who has searched for a job fresh out of college knows how difficult it is to get that first job. And if you’re very lucky, eventually there’s a job offer on the table. Should you grasp it, or wait for something better to come along the way?

It depends on whether you are a “maximizer” or a “satisficer”. Simply put, satisficers are more likely to cut their job search short and take the first job offer. Maximizers are more likely to continue searching until a better job offer comes along. Which type of approach yields the better payoff? A maximizer. Specifically, quoting the results of a study of the job search of 548 members of a school, the maximizers put themselves through more difficulties in the job hunt. They applied to twenty jobs, on average, while satisficers applied to only ten, and they were significantly more likely to make use of outside sources of information and support. But it turned out to be worth it: the job offers they got were significantly better, in terms of salary, than what the satisficers got.

Satisficers were offered jobs with an average starting salary of $37, 085; the average starting salary offered to maximizers was $44, 515, more than 20 percent higher. The trouble is, however, that higher pay doesn’t make maximizers a happier group than satisficers. In fact, maximizers were significantly more likely than satisficers to be unhappy with the offers they accepted.

Evidently, being a maximizer can help you earn more income, but that income doesn’t buy more happiness, as the maximizer’s likely to worry about the prospect of a better job offer out there he or she missed. Maximizers may have objectively superior outcomes, but they’re so busy obsessing about all the things that they could have had, so they tend to be less happy with the outcomes they do get.
