二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Do you like reading? What would you like to read? Here are four recommendations from trusted critics.

    A Greenglass House Story

Kate Milford, illustrated by Nicole Wong

Twelve guests, trapped at the Blue Vein Tavern by rising floodwaters, tell stories to pass the time. With tales that cross over between storytelling and reality, what starts as a series of unrelated tales weaves (编织) together into something smart and tight. A puzzle book that adults may enjoy just as much as its intended child audience. (For ages 4 to 8)

    Someone Builds the Dream

Lisa Wheeler, illustrated by Loren Long

Someone Builds the Dream is a celebration of the cooperative spirit and a proof to what we can achieve if we work together. And after having the curtain pulled back like this, children (and probably many grown-ups) will look at the world around them with fresh eyes. (For ages 5 to 8)

    The Boy and the Sea

Camille Andros, illustrated by Amy Bates

Following a young boy over a lifetime, Camille Andros’ story flows back with a comforting rhythm while Amy Bates’ timeless artwork washes over you. As the boy grows older, he returns regularly to the sea looking for answers but discovers something more valuable: visual angle. (For ages 4 to 8)

    Magic Candies

Heena Baek, translated by Sophie Bowman

When Tong Tong purchases a bag of strange, round candies, he discovers that each one allows him to hear the hidden speech of someone, or something. Honestly, who wouldn’t want to hear what the leaves have to say? You’ll also be sure to treat your chair with greater kindness after a single read. (For ages 4 to 8)

【1】What do the books by Kate Milford and Lisa Wheeler have in common?

    A.They are both puzzle books.

    B.They may attract adult readers.

    C.They both focus on cooperation.

D.They are for children aged 4 to 8.

【2】Which book best suits children who are curious about others’ secrets?

    A.A Greenglass House Story.

    B.Someone Builds the Dream.

    D.The Boy and the Sea.

【3】Who illustrated the story about a boy who discovered visual angle?

    D.Amy Bates.

  • 22、For most children, bath time is fun. But four-year-old Harry Floyd used to have a very different experience—soon after climbing into the water he felt itchy (发痒的) from head to foot.

Harry first started to develop small itchy bumps on the skin at three months old. He woke at 3 a. m. and was covered in the bumps, but they cleared up within an hour. When Harry's mother Lisa got him to the doctor, there was nothing to see. Lisa initially thought it was the soap that Harry was allergic to, but even when she just used water to bathe him he would still get the bumps. Lisa was then alarmed to see that when the weather was really cold or hot Harry would start to get them. Within a few minutes they would spread over his body.   He'd just scream and try to scratch them.

Lisa and her husband Eddie took Harry to the doctor many times over the next year, but were told it was simply a virus and the condition wouldn't affect his older brother, Oliver. At six months Harry was diagnosed with several food allergies, which doctors thought might have caused the bumps. But Harry continued to get the bumps even after shunning those foods. Out of desperation, the family took Harry to Great Ormond Street Hospital to see a private specialist. By coincidence, Harry got the bumps when they were waiting to see the consultant. So the consultant saw exactly how severe it was. And Harry was diagnosed with physical urticaria (荨麻疹), a skin allergy to a host of common triggers (触发物). Since the diagnosis, Harry’s condition has greatly improved.

The cause of physical urticaria is still a mystery. Genetics may play a role and stress has been seen as a trigger. From newborn babies to the old are likely to suffer from it. Recent research suggests around one million people in Britain suffer from the condition, although experts say this may be inaccurate, with many more going undiagnosed.

【1】Why does Harry's problem remain unsolved at the first time?

A.Lisa was unsure about the triggers.

    B.Hospital equipment was not advanced.

C.His symptoms disappeared in a short time.

D.Doctors lacked experience to identify the bumps.

【2】What does the underlined word “shunning” in Paragraph 3 mean?

    A.Digesting.

    B.Avoiding.

    C.Selecting.

    D.Ignoring.

【3】What can we know from the last paragraph?

A.Physical urticaria can start at any age.

B.Harry's father used to have physical urticaria.

C.Physical urticaria is rather uncommon in Britain.

D.Physical urticaria can be easily passed on to children.

【4】What does the text mainly talk about?

A.The symptoms of a rare disease.

B.The possible causes of physical urticaria.

C.A family seeking treatment for their injured kid.

D.A little boy suffering from a terrible skin allergy.

  • 23、   When I was a child, I dreamed of becoming many things. Sometimes, I wished I was an astronaut going up into space, finding new planets and jumping around in a cool space suit. Other times, I imagined being a cowboy in the Wild West, wearing stylish cowboy boots. On other occasions, I pretended to be a famous footballer, using my skills to score lots of goals for my team.

Looking back, I realize that imagination is a wonderful thing. I was able to create entire environments and scenarios in my head, using nothing more than my brain, and to be able to adapt things in my everyday surroundings to fit the specific story of the day. Growing up with siblings (兄弟姐妹) also helped, as it meant that even bigger stories could be created, combining our ideas and putting our thoughts into action. It also allowed for more varieties in the stories, as sometimes I could be the hero while on other occasions, I would be the bad guy.

One of my all-time favorite memories as a kid was playing in my back garden. I played the role of Indiana Jones, which cleaned up at the cinema at that time, with my younger sister as my assistant and my brother as a bad person. We used everything in our garden, from the path to the fence, as part of the storyline to create obstacles that needed to be overcome, and we would keep the story going for hours!

My personal favorite game was Indiana Jones and the Stolen Easter Eggs, where my brother hid small chocolate eggs around the garden and my sister and I had to find them by answering questions or solving a puzzle. It was difficult, but eventually we found all the eggs and shared them together.

Since then, I have seen many great things and met many amazing people. The elements of fun and varieties of my creative imaginations are what I try to bring into every part of my positive life. So I can enjoy sharing with and hearing about other people’s stories, too.

1What do we know about the author from his childhood?

A.He enjoyed living a life full of freedom.

B.He was longing to experience adventurous things.

C.He was always imagining a bright life for his future.

D.He had a clear picture of what he would do after growing up.

2Which of the following can best replace the underlined word “scenarios” in Paragraph 2?

    A.experiences B.situations

    C.positions D.excuses

3From the passage, we know that Indiana Jones was   .

    A.an astronaut B.a famous footballer

C.a hot film D.a very popular book

4What would be the best title for the passage?

    A.My Creative Imagination. B.My Childhood.

C.My Positive Life Today. D.My Pride in Myself.

  • 24、Bissel is a small village of the West Sahara. It lies next to a l.5-square-kilometer oasis (绿洲), from where three days and nights are generally required to go out of the desert. However, before Ken Levin discovered it in 1926, none of the Bissel villagers had ever walked out of the desert. Reportedly, they were not unwilling to leave this barren land. Many had previously tried but failed, always somehow finding themselves back at the oasis after several days of trying to walk out.

When interviewed by Ken Levin, an expert at the British Royal College of Sciences, the villagers explained that no matter which direction they walked it always brought them back to the village.

Why couldn’t the Bissel villagers walk out of the desert? Levin was very puzzled. He had, by himself, managed to walk north from the village and reach the nearest town in three and a half days. He decided to carry out an experiment to solve the mystery. He and a Bissel villager called Argutel, would walk out of the desert together. They prepared enough water for a half-a-month journey and two camels. But this time Ken Levin didn’t bring his compass. Levin would follow Argutel.

Ten days later, they had walked for about 500 miles but were still in the desert. On the 11th morning, an oasis came into their view. They were back at Bissel. Levin now understood why the Bissel people couldn’t escape the desert. They had no knowledge of the North Star, which had for centuries provided sailors and other travelers with a point of direction. In the desert, if a person goes forward relying only on their senses, they will not be able to travel in a straight line. Rather they will travel in a very large circle and eventually track back to where they began. Levin explained to Argutel the function of the North Star and said, “As long as you rest in the daytime and walk towards the brightest star at night, you would be able to walk out of the desert.” Argutel did as he was told. Three days later, he came to the edge of the desert.

Now in the West Sahara, Bissel has become a bright pearl, where tens of thousands of tourists come every year. Argutel’s bronze statue stands in the center of the town. On its base are the words: ________.

【1】Villagers in Bissel had never walked beyond the desert because ________.

A.they had no method to find their way out

A.see how far away Bissel was to the edge of the desert

B.prove that people could walk out of the desert

C.tell people not to walk in circles

D.show Argutel was a great person

【3】According to the passage, Ken Levin ________.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I wrote my first poem. My mother read the little poem and began to cry, “Buddy, you didn’t really write this beautiful, beautiful poem! Wonderful!” My eyes twinkled when she poured out her praise. “What time will Father be home?” I asked. I could hardly wait to show him, expecting the praise from an editor in chief of Times.

I spent the best part of that afternoon preparing for his arrival. First, I wrote the poem out to the best of my ability. Then I drew pictures to match this greatest poem. As seven o’clock drew near, I confidently placed it on my father’s plate on the dining-room table, waiting for him to appreciate this wonderful poem of mine.

This evening when my father burst in, his mood seemed even more thunderous than usual. An hour late for dinner, he could not sit down but circled the long dining room table with a drink in his hand, complaining nonstop about his employees. Under my steady gaze, he paused and glared at his plate. There was an awful silence. “What’s this?” He reached for the paper and read it. Then he dropped the poem back on the table, saying “Awful”. My eyes were getting wet.

“Ben, Buddy is just a little boy. These are the first lines of poetry he’s ever written. He needs encouragement,” my mother said. But my father disagreed, “Isn’t there enough terrible poetry in the world already? No law says Buddy has to become a poet.” They quarreled over it. I couldn’t stand it another second. I ran from the dining room crying. A sad story, but you know, the family wounds healed. My mother began talking to my father again. I even began writing poems again, though I seldom exposed them to my father.
