二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Jeffrey Boakye, a writer and teacher from London, is right to think that the stories we tell our children shape their future values. Recent research from the End Sexism in Schools campaign also established that children in the UK are still living off a worryingly limited diet of male authors and male main characters.

Our research confirms that the novels Boakye mentions in his recent article are in the top five most taught in years 7 to 9. But boys need to be taught to listen to and respect female voices as powerful, and to be empathetic to the viewpoints of women and girls. This is essential in tackling one of the root causes of male violence against women and girls. And girls need to be taught that our expectations of them are not tied to life-denying gender stereotypes (性别刻板印象).

English literature could be taught by allowing teachers and students to decide together, exploring relevant and important themes, including those Boakye identifies. The techniques of reading, analyzing and understanding can be taught with examples, but all students need not answer the same questions on the same books, in class or in exams. The current system is more convenient for teachers and graders, but it’s also deeply repetitive. Let the kids choose their own texts: It’ll be less boring and we might just learn something in the end.

Parents-challenge your schools to change. Teachers-you have the ability to make these changes. It is our duty as their parents, educators and carers to teach children more books by women, and more books with female main characters and if this means leaving out some of the so-called classics, then so be it.

B.More say should be given to students about what to read.

C.The current system benefits students more than teachers.

D.The novels Boakye mentions are boring.

【3】What does the author suggest English literature teachers do ?

    A.Ask more open-ended questions.

    B.Select more materials by females.

    C.Focus more on reading techniques.

D.Reduce the use of classic literature.

  • 22、Three Modern Services

When you're working a full-time job, studying or on the hunt for work, life can feel exhausting. The good news is that modern technology has made life easier in many ways, and with the following services, you'll find you have more time and energy for the things that matter.

    Meal kit delivery services

Meal kit delivery services are one of the most underestimated innovations of the 21st century. How they work is simple. At the beginning you choose how many people need to eat in your household. Then, what your dietary requirements are, and any other preferences. Finally, you get to choose which meal kits will be delivered to your door.

No matter your diet, you can have an appropriate meal kit delivered. For example, check out these low carb meal delivery options. The kit comes complete with all the ingredients you need, already prepared. All you have to do is to follow the simple recipe to put them together and pop your meal in the oven.

With meal kit delivery, you don’t have to worry about cooking or spending money on takeout. Your trips to the grocery store will become easier and you'll waste less money and food.

    Taskrabbit

One of the most frustrating aspects of having a place you call your own is that you have to take care of the maintenance(维修). Even if you are renting, there are certain tasks that your landlord will expect you to see to, whether a leaky tap or a problematic electrical appliance.

For this, Taskrabbit connects you with freelancers who are willing to take on just about any task for you. You can hire someone to take care of your leaky tap rather than spending your own time and energy doing it. You're giving someone work while enjoying your time off.

    Postmates

Finally, one of the most convenient and useful services is, of course, Postmates. With Postmates, you can get just about anything delivered or deliver something yourself. You can get someone to do your groceries for you – simply make a list of what you need and choose whether the shopper should call you if something is out or if they can decide on replacements themselves.

You can also use it for takeout, to send or receive documents, and any other delivery needs you have.

We live in an age of convenience, and we should take advantage of it. Start using the above services and you'll see your stress levels drop.

1What will people first do to enjoy Meal kit delivery services?

    A.To check out some options.

B.To pop your meal in the oven.

C.To confirm the exact number of people.

D.To follow the simple recipe to put them together.

2What do the three Modern Services have in common?

A.They can help people save money.

B.All the Modern Services are top-level.

C.They can make people easily enjoy their lives.

D.Young people show their preference for the three Modern Services.

3Where is the passage most likely to be taken from?

    A.A magazine. B.A book review.

    C.A novel. D.A guidebook.

  • 23、阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D 四个选项中,选出最佳选项.

By now, we are all aware that social media has had a tremendous influence on our culture, in

business, on the world-at-large. Social media websites revolutionized the way people communicate and socialize on the Web. However, aside from seeing your friends’ new baby on Facebook, or reading about Justin Bieber’s latest conflict with the law on Twitter, what are some of the real influences?

Social networks offer the opportunity for people to re-connect with their old friends and acquaintances, make new friends, share ideas and pictures, and many other activities. Users can keep pace with the latest global and local developments, and participate in campaigns and activities of their choice. Professionals use social media sites like LinkedIn to enhance their career and business development. Students can work together with their peers to improve their academic and communication skills.

Unfortunately, there are a few downsides too to social networking. If you are not careful, immoral people can target you for cyber bullying and disturbance on social sites. School children, young girls, and women can fall victim to online attacks which can create tension and suffering. If you are a victim of cyber bullying, do not take it lying down, but try to take appropriate legal action against the attacker.

Many companies have blocked social networks as addicted employees can distract themselves on such sites, instead of focusing on work. In fact, studies show that British companies have lost billions of dollars per year in productivity because of social media addiction among employees.

Also, what you carelessly post on the Net can come back to trouble you. Revealing( 泄露) personal information on social sites can make users vulnerable(易受伤害的)to crimes like identity theft, stalking, etc. Many companies perform a background check on the Web before hiring an employee. If a potential employee has posted something embarrassing on social media, it can greatly affect their chances of getting the job. The same holds true for our relationships too, as our loved ones and friends may get to know if we post something undesirable on social networks.

Social media has its advantages and drawbacks as each coin has two sides. It is up to each user

to use social sites wisely to enhance their professional and social life, and exercise caution to ensure

they do not fall victim to online dangers.

【1】Paragraph 2 mainly shows that social networks _________.

    A. benefit users in various ways

    B. offer offer professionals good chances

    A. take legal action against the attackers

    B. avoid posting embarrassing information

    C. refuse to hire potential addicted employees

    D. forbid the use of social networks during work time

【3】The main purpose of this passage is to _________.

    A. share experiences in using social media

    B. provide some advice on social problems

    C. raise public awareness of social problems

  • 24、Imagine reading a story titled "Pursuing Success." That would be an inspiring story, wouldn't it? Maybe—but maybe not. It might well be the story of someone whose never-ending chase for more and more success leaves them unsatisfied and incapable of happiness.

Though it isn't a conventional medical addiction, for many people success has addictive properties. Obviously, success goes with praise. To a certain extent, praise stimulates the neurotransmitter dopamine (神经递质多巴胺),which contributes to all addictive behaviors.

The desire for success may be born to human nature, but specialness doesn't come cheap. Success is tough work, and it requires bearing the cost of losing. In the 1980s, the physician Robert Goldman famously found that more than half of ambitious athletes would be willing to take a drug that would kill them in five years in exchange for winning every competition they entered.

Unfortunately, success is endless. The goal can't be satisfied; most people never feel “successful” enough. The high only lasts a day or two, and then it's on to the next goal. Psychologists call this the hedonic treadmill (快乐跑步机现象),in which satisfaction wears off almost immediately and we must run on to the next reward to avoid the feeling of falling behind.

People should get off the treadmill. But quitting isn't easy for addicts. For people hooked on substances, withdrawal can be a painful experience, both physically and psychologically, research finds that depression and anxiety are common among outstanding athletes after their careers end. Olympic athletes, in particular, suffer from the “ post-Olympic blues.”

Just like wine, success in and of itself is not a bad thing. Both can bring fun and sweetness to life. But both become bossy when they are a substitute for — instead of a complement (补充物)to — the relationships and love that should be at the center of our lives.

【1】What does praise function as when going with success?

A.It has nothing to do with success addiction.

B.It may indirectly cause success addiction.

C.It always brings positive results of success.

D.It results in all addictive behaviors except success.

【2】Why did the author mention the research findings of Robert Goldman?

A.To show success is a tough and cruel job.

B.To stress the key to success lies in efforts.

C.To argue that athletes deserve more rewards.

D.To describe the routine training of an ordinary athlete.

【3】What can success bring to a success addict according to psychologists?

A.Satisfaction and a sense of pride.

    B.Anxiety and short-lived happiness.

    C.Relaxation and endless motivation.

    D.Confidence and permanent happiness.

【4】What does the author suggest people do about pursuing success?

    A.Stop chasing success.

    B.Chase success at any cost.

C.Reflect on what matters in life.

    D.Give up love and relationships.
