A notable highlight of the show was the real confidence of the singing. Sam Hall was a joy to watch, with perfect comic timing, as was Emma Williams, thoroughly believable and convincing in her role. These two young talents stole the show, in my opinion. The only disadvantage is appointments were the dancing, which showed a lack of originality, and the opening scene, which fell a little flat. Despite the occasional technical flaws, this was a highly enjoyable and greatly impressive production, which the company should be proud of.
I was really looking forward to Jonathan Baker’s latest, which is set in an imagined, but realistic, London of the scar future. But I found this new effort was act down by the slightly one-dimensional characterization, and the writing is below standard for the most part : some of the early scents between Martha and her husband are slightly boring. The superb characterization and ambition that baker demonstrated in his previous novels seem to be missing here. Baker’ commitment to describing the lives of ordinary people is admirable, but the whole thing is lacking in energy.
This is episode number three in the nearly twenty-year-old series, delivering a very attractive and interesting story and loads of comedy. There is some strong writing and voice acting, but the new episode chooses to go for a linear (线性的) narrative, with some puzzle included along the way, which is less involving than the theme of exploration and conversation which previous episode have depended on. Besides, the puzzle are not particularly engaging, and many of them have been seen before in other adventure games. The visuals are extremely impressive, of course, as we have come to expect, this time featuring venues in Catalonia. But overall, a slight disappointment. |

22、 Like Indiana Jones (a fictional character), who undertakes daring adventures in his spare time, my father is a businessman by day and a thrill-seeker by night.
His enthusiasm rubbed off on me, and I have been lucky to be his companion on many adventures. We started out by riding America’s fastest, most twisted roller coasters. After that a whitewater rafting trip through the Grand Canyon(峡谷)on the Colorado River started our search for other extreme thrills across the globe.
Amazing thrills awaited us at every corner of the world. Skydiving was especially thrilling when performed from a helicopter over the breathtaking Swiss Alps. We have bungee jumped from the world’s highest platform, Bloukrans Bridge in South Africa. Most recently, in Interlaken, Switzerland, we attempted canyoning(溪降运动).
Anyone who loves a challenging thrill should try canyoning. Our adventure began with a 90-foot rope down a canyon wall into a rushing ice-cold river. Then we crossed the bone-chilling water toward the mouth of the river, our final destination, where the reward for the journey would be a whole view of the beautiful Interlaken basin. We slid over slippery rocks at one moment, jumped from waterfalls and swam through underwater tunnels the next. Back and forth we alternated, climbing rope ladders before going back into the fresh mountain water. Certainly, danger was waiting for us in each of these activities, but that very danger provided the rush. Canyoning was indeed one thrill after another, from beginning to end.
While canyoning is possible only in certain places, thrills and adventure can be found anywhere. Our beginnings in the U.S. showed us just that. We continue to seek the big thrills, but in doing so, we have learned to seek lesser excitement in daily life as well. After all, we can’t go canyoning every day, and small thrills are better than none for us thrill-seekers.

24、Though against his will, this 12-year-old boy felt compelled to leave his puppy to an animal shelter in Mexico. Upsetting, but sometimes the best decision is to let go of your dog for a better life.
The factors that compel owners to give up their pets vary, but the most common ones relate to issues regarding obedience and the owner's capacity. People have no alternative but to give up their dogs when they move into a new neighborhood and pets are not allowed. Another reason is when families cannot afford to cover medical bills for the pet. In the end, they have to give one up to ease their financial burdens.
Nevertheless, giving up our pets is one of the most difficult decisions we have to make, just like what this boy from Mexico did.
On February 13, a 12-year-old boy, Andres, left a pit bull puppy outside the Refugio
Xollin in Michoacan, Mexico. Along with the dog came a stuffed animal and a touching letter penned by his young owner, explaining why he could no longer care for the dog. “My name is Andres and I am 12 years old," the note reads, “My mom and I decide to leave my dog in your hands, hiding it from my dad because he is thinking about selling him." "He mistreats and kicks him. One day he kicked him so hard that he hurt his tail. I hope you can help and take care of him. I leave him a stuffed animal so he won't forget me.
The rescue group shared the story on their Facebook page, along with adorable pictures of the pup. The post quickly gained massive attention online. They have received over 300 applications to adopt the pit bull puppy, Rene, from all over Mexico.
The group took Rene to the pet clinic and had him dewormed. He is on his way to recovery and ready for adoption. However, it seems like Rescue Xollin hasn't found the perfect family for him yet, as he is still under their care. Hopefully, Rene gets adopted out soon and Andres is fine.
【1】What does the underlined word "compel" mean in the second paragraph?
A.Determine.
B.Permit.
C.Force.

B.The reason that his family can’t afford the medical treatment.

D.The wish that Rene will experience a better life.
【3】What do we know about Rene?
A.He will be taken care of by the stuffed animal left by the boy.
B.He is well treated in the Refugio Xollin in Michoacan, Mexico.
C.More than 300 people would like to adopt him throughout the world.
D.Rescue Xollin hasn't found time to select a perfect family for him.

The doctors sent my mother home to die. As a fifteen-year survivor of breast cancer, she had suffered two heart attacks when advanced cancer was found in her lung. The doctor told me sadly, "She has a few days, maybe a week. Her heart is weak and unstable. "Mom had struggled to raise three daughters while holding a full-time job, yet worked hard to maintain a warm home for her family. My plan for Mom’s final days was simple: she would live with love, and die with grace.
I took mother to my home, small but comfortable, which was a heaven to four cats and a dog. The animals had the run of my house. We equipped the bedroom with an electric hospital bed and an oxygen machine, which frightened the cats. I’d moved their furniture and the cats were annoyed. The dog, on the other hand, an immature dog with bad habits, was excited by all the changes in the house. He jumped up, barking. He is Otto who was not afraid of the hospital bed, the oxygen machine or the medical smells. Nor was he afraid of the weak woman who had scolded him. Otto jumped onto the foot of Mom's hospital bed, and stayed. With the exception of eating and using the litter box, Otto never left Mom's room.
Days passed and Mom started to rally. “Not unusual,” I was told, “a rally is often a sign of imminent death(回光返照)” I was heart-broken. But Otto would not give her up so easily. He used her improved condition to reposition himself from the foot of her bed to her side. Her thin fingers found his soft coat. He leaned into her body, as if holding tight the strings of her will to live. Though weak, she petted the dog and would not allowed me to take him. Days turned into weeks and Mom continued to fight.
Paragraph 1
Once, after the nurses had gone for the day, I heard the sound of Mom’s voice coming from her room. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2
Three years later, Mom together with Otto is still here, medicines and nurses long gone. __ __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
