二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   You are standing in a hall packed with friends, family, colleagues and peers. You are about to walk onto the stage and address theme. You’re expected to say something meaningful and profound and everyone is hanging on your every word. You need to be clearly spoken, confident and calm, maybe even funny. How do you feel?

If you’re shaking, sweating and looking for the exit, you’re normal. Most of us are scared of public speaking and yet, as a society, we’re becoming more obsessed with hearing what people have to say: we watch endless TED talks, download podcasts and screen hours of YouTube clips. Being able to address a crowd is no longer the domain of the braveif you want to get ahead in your career, you need to master it. I’ve done enough public speaking to have picked up some tips and tricks, and these are the ones I rely on most.

The most important thing is to prepare. You don’t have to write out your speech word by word but get the headline, three key points and the concluding sentence on paper and put bullet points under each. Then run through it and note which of your bullet points made it in and what you added. Adapt your notes and try again. Keep going until you have a structure.

Now it’s time to watch yourselfyes, get out your camera and film yourself. This is how you will see the points that need work and where you can polish it up.

Most of the information the audience will take away will be from your energy and your tone, a little from your words. Once you have sorted out the words, focus on how to exude(散发) the right energydo you need confidence or humor? I go for confidence so, five minutes before a talk, I try to recall a success I’ve had. I focus on the details and aim to bring that feelings of competence to life.

Finally, breathe. We cannot speak without breath, yet it is the first thing we let go of when we are nervous. Settle your breathing before you start. If you lose control of your breath in the middle, say “Let’s take a moment to think about that last point.” That gives you a pause to collect your breath. The only way to get over a fear of public speaking is to do it, again and again. You will have good and bad experiences but, if you do it enough, you’ll realize that, occasionally, it’s fun.

1According to the author, why is public speech important to the average?

A.Friendships can be established through it.

B.Public speeches can display our courage.

C.There are more occasions for pubic speeches.

D.It is beneficial to our way up the career ladder.

2Which of the following tips is recommended by the author?

A.Preparing and writing down every detail.

B.Displaying right energy during the speech.

C.Watching famous films of public speeches.

D.Telling key points and bullet points apart.

3What view does the author hold about public speaking?

A.It creates more and more fun if we stick to practice.

B.It is easier to practise at home than to perform outside.

C.Experiences of public speaking can delight us sometimes.

D.Attempts to give public speaking tend to fail in the end.

  • 27、When you talk to doctors in the hospitals, it often happens that most of them are very serious and speak in a range of terms that may be difficult to understand. But Zhang Wenhong, the leader of the Shanghai team of experts in the treatment of novel coronavirus pneumonia, is one of the exceptions. He caught the public’s attention for his recent frank and funny speech.

Zhang’s words first went viral(走红)on the Internet after he said in late January that he had sent doctors and nurses who are members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to frontline hospitals to treat coronavirus cases. “When becoming CPC members, we vowed (发誓)that we would always put people’s interests first in the face of difficulties,” Zhang said. “This is the moment we live up to the vow. All CPC members must rush to the frontline. No bargaining.”

Such a hardcore declaration of his attitude won widespread applause among Internet users. “A person’s morals are witnessed most in a critical situation. Nothing could win more recognition from the people than the down-to-earth behavior of the CPC members,” said Yang Haiyan, a 32-year-old Shanghai resident.

One month later, when Zhang advised local residents to reduce the risk of spreading the virus by staying at home, he said in Shanghai dialect: “If you don’t stop seeing friends, you will see them again in the ICU.”

Though chased by the media, Zhang described himself as a medical worker who must speak out now, but will return to keeping a low profile after the outbreak ends. “I spoke because of the fear among the public, owing to limited knowledge of the contagion (传染病),” said Zhang on Feb 26. “However, once the curtain of this coronavirus incident falls, it may be hard to find me. I’ll just hide myself in a corner, studying complicated patient cases and doing some reading, silently.”

【1】What has made Zhang Wenhong so popular online?

    A.His attitude towards his patients.

    B.His honest and humorous speech.

C.His vow to fight against the virus.

D.His broad knowledge of the virus.

【2】Zhang Wenhong sent CPC members to frontline hospitals because he believed that .

    A.they would not bargain

B.they should do as they had vowed

C.they would be calmer in a critical situation

D.they could win recognition from the people

【3】What can we infer from Zhang Wenhong’s words in the last paragraph?

A.He doesn’t like to speak in public.

B.He is looking forward to taking a break.

C.He is not a person who is after fame and attention.

D.He mainly treats people with complicated diseases.

  • 28、   Do you still remember your favorite poem during high school or some other important periods in your life? Why is it that decades later it still stands out in your mind? Probably the main reason is that some aspect of that poem resonates (产生共鸣) with you. In the same way, you too as a school leader can touch the hearts of your teachers and students.

Poetry allows us to experience strong spiritual connections to things around us and to the past. The power that poetry has displayed over time and across cultures actually satisfies this common need of the human heart and soul.

As one of the oldest art forms, poetry has successfully connected various parts of humanity (人性) from one generation to another. Referring to poetry, Hillyer makes a simple yet meaningful statement,“ With this key mankind unlocked his heart.”

School leaders can find and make use of the value of poetry for themselves, their students and their teachers. Beyond the simple use of poetry, techniques of poetry such as repetitions (重复) can be used to take advantage of the power of language to transform communication, create meaning and culture of care and attention.

Since schools are mainly about people and relationships, school leaders, like poets, are required to inspire and encourage the human heart. The use of poetry — or even of some techniques of poetry — in school leadership not only helps to improve communication, but also serves to meet the human need for inspiration.

1Who is the passage mainly written for?

    A.Students. B.Teachers.

    C.School leaders. D.Poets.

2The use of poetry or techniques of poetry in school leadership is in fact to make use of ______ .

    A.the power of language

    B.the power of school leaders

    C.people’s preference for poetry

    D.people’s desire for communication

3What is the purpose of the passage?

A.To talk about the art of being a school leader.

B.To encourage school leaders to use the power of poetry in school leadership.

C.To explain how poetry can be used in our daily life.

D.To show readers that poetry is really powerful.

  • 29、   Scientists say they have created a new device that can turn brain signals into electronic speech. The invention could one day give people who have lost the ability to speak a better way of communicating than current ones.

The device was developed by researchers from the University of California, San Francisco.Their results were recently published in a study in the journal Nature.Scientists created a"brain machine connection"that was set in the brain. The device was built to read and record brain signals that helped control the muscles to produce speech. These include the lips, tongue and jaw .

The study involved five volunteer patients who were being treated for epilepsy(癫痫).The individuals had the ability to speak and already had electrodes(电极)set in their brains. The volunteers were asked to read several hundred sentences aloud while the researchers recorded their brain activity.

The researchers used audio recordings to reproduce the vocal(发声的) muscle movement which is the key to producing human speech.Future studies will test the technology on people who are unable to speak.

The study reports the reproduced sentences were understandable to hundreds of human listeners asked to write out what they heard. The listeners were able to write out 43 percent of sentences with perfect accuracy.

Edward Chang is a professor of the university's Weill Institute. He was a lead researcher on the project.Chang admitted that much more research of the system would be needed to reach the goal of perfectly reproducing spoken language.

1Who will probably benefit most from this device?

A.Those unable to hear. B.Those unable to see.

C.Those unable to speak. D.Those unable to write.

2What do we know about the"brain machine connection"?

A.It could control the muscles. B.It could produce human speech.

C.It could transform brain signals. D.It could read and record brain signals.
