26、My dad is the kind of parent that expects my best. He would never be angry if I failed at something as long as I tried. He never changes his mind after he makes it, which sometimes makes him seem too stubborn. My dad's strictness comes from the way he was raised. He grew up working long hours on his family farm. His dad was bad-tempered, and he would get angry enough to throw wooden boards at my dad when he did something wrong. In high school, my dad woke up at four in the morning to get his chores (家务) done and walk to school so that he would make it to basketball practice by five.
Through all of the duties my dad had at home, he played three sports and went to school on top of it. School would have been easy , but my dad had dyslexia(读写困难) which made it nearly impossible for him to read. Since dyslexia wasn't recognized back then, every teacher my dad had passed along thinking that he was just unable to learn. My dad struggled in school until one teacher took the time to sit down and teach him how to read and write.
The best part about my dad is his attitude toward daily life. Even though he likes things once right, he also knows how go to with the flow and have a good time. My dad doesn't worry about things he can't control. When he comes home from a terrible day at work, he always puts on a smile on his face because he knows family is a lot more important than any other thing.
I know that I get my best qualities from my parents and the way they raised me. My dad has shown me that with discipline and hard work I can achieve anything, and have fun while doing it.

27、I attended a Catholic (天主教的) grammar school for nine years. Later I decided to go to the public high school that I now attend. Why did I choose a public high school?
The main purpose of going to school is to receive a good education that will help us become successful in the future. Both private and public schools give this opportunity. But public schools and private schools each give an entirely different social experience. The social experience, in my opinion, is much more important than the academic (学业的) experience, especially for a boy like me.
In my grammar school, most of the people I met were white, Catholic, and of the same learning ability. Every day at school, students were expected to wear uniform (统一的) clothes, have uniform hairstyles and learn at the same pace. Growing up, this is what I expected all schools were like. For nine years I didn’t know that people of different religions (宗教) and learning paces existed in the real world. But the fact is that there are more types of people than Catholics and quick learners. For this reason, I decided to try something new by attending a public high school.
My freshman year of high school was an amazing eye-opener for me. I met different types of people. I have met people with long hair, short hair, black hair and purple hair. I have met people who are two years ahead of everyone else, and others who are two years behind. There are musicians, bookworms and others with interests outside the school. People can be whoever they want to be.
Meeting so many different students and teachers with so many different interests made me much more interested in meeting more people. This experience made me know how important the social part of a public high school really is. In the future, when I go to college and begin my career, I will be meeting and working with people who have different backgrounds. For this reason, I will never regret the decision I have made.
【1】Why did the author decide to go to a public high school?

28、 Fear and not having a clear idea of what we want are two of the main reasons we fail in life. Our relationships are mainly affected by our fears and insecurities, along with the lack of respect, honesty, responsibility and appreciation.
【1】 We choose and create our beliefs, fears and opinions based on all our experiences in life. Even though things and life are the way they are, mainly, we all have different opinions and beliefs about everything and everybody. 【2】They may limit our capacity and intelligence but what really matters is the opinion we have about ourselves. You either choose to accept and follow what other people believe or you decide to be yourself and live according to the reality of life.
【3】It is extremely important to understand how this image created by your beliefs and imagination, directs and influences your growth. This image that you create about yourself determines who you are and how you feel. It determines how successful you become and how far you can get in life.【4】
Even though beliefs create the mental images that influence our behavior, actions and results, in the end, beliefs are mental states that have nothing to do with reality. People can think whatever they want about you, but it is entirely up to you either to believe those images and act accordingly, or to picture yourself reaching the stars.
We have to be clear what really matters and what will shape your destiny is what you think about yourself, nothing else but the image you create about yourself. Believe blindly in yourself ! Everything starts in the mind. If you really want to accomplish your dreams, picture yourself having and living the life you want.【5】 It doesn't matter how bad or difficult the circumstances may look like.
A.Other people have opinions about us too.
B.Believe in yourself and be confident !
C.Self-image plays a very important role in our life.
D.In short, you are as happy or sad as you see yourself.
E.Experiences are acquired through our journey in life.
F.More importantly, you should show your respect to others, as well.
G.By living life as it is and being yourself, you create an image about yourself.
29、In 1957, the first spaceship was sent up to travel around the earth, and it started the time of Space Age. Years later, astronauts traveled around the earth and men walked on the moon. Today, space exploration(探索)continues, and governments try hard to make new discoveries. However, there has been one big change: private companies(公司)are entering the field of space travel.
Space X has been triumphant in space travel. They made the spaceship to work for the International Space Station(ISS). Elon Musk, the boss, wants to do more. He hopes that Space X will be able to send people to Mars by 2025.
Another fan of space travel is Sir Richard Branson. His company is called Virgin Galactic. He wants to open space travel to everyone. The company has sold almost 700 future trips to space at a high price. The tourists come from countries all over the world and are of different ages.
These private companies are lucky. They don't have to wait for money from the government. However, they also have problems and accidents happen sometimes. In 2014, a Virgin spaceship fell down during a test flight. The 39-year-old pilot was killed. In 2016, another Space X spaceship exploded(爆炸). No one was hurt, but important parts of it were lost.
The exploration of the space continues. Some companies want to take people to the moon and back someday. Others want to take people to Mars. The possibilities are endless. Maybe in our life-time, those dreams will come true.

Dear Editor,
I am really angry with my parents recently. Next Sunday is my birthday. My parents promised to buy a cell phone for me as my birthday present this year. But now when I ask about the birthday present they say they have changed their ideas, because they worry about my study if I get a new cell phone since the final exam is coming soon. They say a cell phone may take up too much of my time. I believe I am old enough to control myself, but they don’t believe me. What’s more, they broke their promise!
