26、Astronauts traveling in space meet forms of radiation(辐射)that are uncommon on Earth. Some of this radiation has been shown to be harmful to human health. It is linked to cancers and heart problems. Yet a new American study suggests the radiation does not shorten astronauts' lives.
Researchers studied nearly 60 years of health records and other data about male astronauts from the United States. They then compared this data with information about a group of men who are in good health, richer than most Americans and receive good health care-professional athletes. The study found that neither group has higher rates of dying at a young age. In fact, both groups generally live longer than other Americans.
Astronauts are usually well-educated, earn more money and are in better physical conditions than the average Americans Some earlier research has linked being an astronaut to a lower risk of early death, the researchers noted. The findings were reported in the medical journal Occupational&Environmental Medicine.
Much of the existing research on mortality rates(死亡率) in astronauts has not yet explored the mental and physical demands of this job. There also has not been a lot of research on whether astronauts show what is known as the "healthy worker effect". This effect leads people with employment of any kind to have fewer medical problems than people who are unable to work, said Robert Reynolds.
Reynolds said, "The challenge has always been to understand if astronauts are as healthy as they would be had they been otherwise comparably employed but had never gone to space at all. To do this, we need to find a group that is comparable on several important factors."
【1】How did researchers carry out their study?
A.By doing interviews.
B.By analyzing some factors.
C.By comparing different data.
D.By doing experiments in the lab.
【2】What can we team from the text?
A.All radiation is harmful to human health.
B.Athletes tend to be poorer than most Americans.

【3】What can be inferred from Reynolds' words?
A.They are determined to face the challenge.
B.The research is almost impossible to conduct.
C.Several important factors hold back the research.
D.Astronauts are healthier than they haven’t been astronauts.
【4】What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Astronauts--Healthy or Otherwise
B.Astronauts Are as Healthy as Athletes
C.Radiation Affects Astronauts' Health
D.Astronauts--- Well-Educated and Well-Paid
27、A message appeared in my Facebook Messenger inbox. It was from a woman I met briefly through a friend. “Hello, lady. Invite you to join my next challenge group — we’ll be focusing on fitting in 30 minutes of exercise, balanced nutrition and motivation. Let me help you reach your goals!”
I laughed and ignored it. Though I’m a little fat, I’m healthy. But the meaning behind the message stuck with me all day. The more the day went on, the heavier her message weighed on me. The insecurity about my body was brought to life by one little Facebook message. That got me thinking about stepping away from social media.
But what drove the nail into my Facebook coffin was when I posted a photo — and five minutes later my son asked how many “likes” it got.
Likes equal acceptance and approval, which need to come from within. I unknowingly set a dangerous example as it won’t be long before he has his own phone and the freedom to post his own pictures. I didn’t want him to wait for his friends to “like” them and like and accept him. He should know his self-worth doesn’t rely on what others think or click.
I deactivated my Facebook account. At first I felt lost. I missed the mindless scrolling while waiting in lineups. I carried a book with me. I’d been in the habit of checking Facebook as first thing in the morning and last thing at night, so I had to come up with some new habits.
And the results were immediate once the fog of Facebook disappeared. We were much happier as a family because I was completely present and the break left me feeling better about myself, my family, my home and my life.

28、On August 5, 2021, Chinese diver Quan Hongchan became China's newest diving superstar when she won the gold medal in the women's diving 10m platform final in style. Having turned 14 just four months before the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, Quan is the youngest athlete among China' s Olympic group, and won the country's 33rd gold medal in Tokyo.
She simply blew away the rest of the competitors, delivering three perfect—10 dives, and achieved a record—breaking overall score of 466.20.
Her great performance, where she hardly created a ripple (涟漪)on the water's surface during her five dives, left audience in surprise, with some saying that even dumplings make bigger splashes (水花)."
Covering her face with the gold medal, Quan gave thanks to her parents, saying that they had told her not to be nervous, "They said it doesn't matter if I get a medal or not. Just be myself. Those words really helped me."
Quan comes from a family in Guangdong. Her mother was hurt in an accident several years ago, and has to stay at hospitals. The family depends on her father, but she says she wants to help out with her mother's medical bill by practicing diving.
She began to learn diving at 7 and trained about four hours each day, practicing 400 dives. After entering the national diving team, she trained even harder. At the Tokyo Games, she broke the record of 447.70 held by Chen Ruolin. In the end, China won seven gold and five silver medals in diving. 29、China's "Little People's Kingdom" is a theme park, where little people dance and sing in fairytale costumes, drawing both curious groups and criticism. The theme park, near Kunming City in Yunnan Province, employs 108 dwarfs from across the country, who gather on an artificial hillside twice a day to dance and sing for tourists. And all pretend to live in a tiny hilltop village.
The guests can watch shows like comedies, group dance and acrobatics. The show's centerpiece, a funny performance of Swan Lake, sees performers dressed in special pink costumes and pretending to be little swans.” The first time I performed it (Swan Lake)I felt a bit embarrassed. I had never worn a skirt like that before. But later, once I got used to it, I found I could do it very well,” said Chen Ruan, 21 ,from Hunan Province who joined the park when it opened.
For many of the employees, the park offers a rare opportunity to find work. As unlikely as it seems for men and women doing daily funny performances of Swan Lake, they think that it feels good to live in dormitories that look like caves while living with people with similar experiences. In addition, the life facilities in the park are made according to their special needs. Besides, performers in the park earn 2,000 yuan a month, around twice the salary of a high school graduate.
The founder of the park, Chen Ming, made his fortune by producing electronics and investing, but said he had always wanted to help the disadvantaged groups in the community. People, like human right activists for the disabled, think that such a park only encourages the discrimination against little people. The only requirement for participants to be employed at the theme park is to be shorter than 51 inches and be able to take care of themselves in daily life. The youngest employee is 18,and the oldest 48.

Vincent Van Gogh
Born in the Netherlands in 1853, van Gogh led a simple life in a small town until the age of 16. He then left school and joined a company of art business in the larger city. During the next seven years, van Gogh bought and sold paintings in the Netherlands, London, and Paris. He eventually realized that dealing with others’ artwork was not his dream. He soon discovered that his dream was to become an artist himself.
He spent much of his time in learning the basic skills of drawing. He believed that to become a great painter, one must first master the ability to draw. It was only after he was comfortable in this area that he began to use oil paints. That is when van Gogh developed a style for color that made him one of the most respected artists of all time.
Van Gogh’s paintings are amazing representations (代表) of his view of the world. He used his brush and oils to make layers that built the painting until it was almost three-dimensional (三维). This quality makes people want to reach out and touch the painting.
Perhaps one of the most memorable examples of van Gogh’s use of color and brush style is his painting The Starry Night. The sky swirls across the canvas (画布), while the stars glow with unearthly brightness. Each brushstroke (笔画) creates the movement and lights. Under the sky rests a village painted with smaller strokes and finer detail, giving the impression of peace. A large tree in the foreground suggests that the view is enjoyed from the top of a hill, which offers a glimpse of the majesty (庄严) of the night sky. The Starry Night displays the gift of van Gogh’s ability to create a powerful image with simple brush and oils.
Van Gogh spent only the last ten years of his life painting. Yet van Gogh today is considered one of the greatest artists of all time. His influence is strong; many painters mimic his style and use of color. His artwork can be found in museums all over the world.
