26、I grew up in Michigan and have loved boats since I was young. I’d go out on my dad’s fishing boat, and every birthday I’d get a miniature (微型的) boat with a viewing window. In Michigan, we’re surrounded by lakes and I soon discovered that I loved diving and even skipped school days for the beach.
Three years ago, I successfully put forward an idea of running glass-bottom boat tours to an investor. It started in 2018. My sons help out, manning the deck and phones. I swam to my boat, took a photo and then opened the bottle. It was full of water and had paper inside. I unfolded the paper and saw the date-November 1926. We were all amazed. The note read: “Return this paper to George Morrow.” I was so excited to have found it.
We made sure to keep the paper safe. I kept the bottle. Before leaving the harbor, I posted a picture on my Facebook page and didn’t expect what followed.
The next morning, my phone blew up with messages. While I was driving home, I got a phone call from Michele Primeau. She told me she was George Morrow’s daughter. I didn’t believe her at first. She said her dad would float notes in bottles when he went on vacation or hid them in walls when redecorating. She worked out he had posted this one on his 18th birthday.
In autumn, Michele came to visit. She brought some of his writing and the handwriting matched. She insisted I keep the message and the bottle.
It now sits in a display case in my shop. That Facebook post now has 87,000 likes.
In a hard year, the discovery has brought pure joy. For a scuba (水肺) diver, this feels like a lifetime achievement.

27、He was the baby with no name. Found and taken from the north Atlantic 6 days after the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, his tiny body so moved the salvage (救援) workers that they called him “our baby.” In their home port of Halifax, Nova Scotia, people collected money for a headstone in front of the baby's grave (墓), carved with the words: “To the memory of an unknown child.” He has rested there ever since.
But history has a way of uncovering its secrets. On Nov. 5, this year, three members of a family from Finland arrived at Halifax and laid fresh flowers at the grave. “This is our baby,” says Magda Schleifer, 68, a banker. She grew up hearing stories about a great-aunt named Maria Panula,42, who had sailed on the Titanic for America to be reunited with her husband. According to the information Mrs. Schleifer had gathered, Panula gave up her seat on a lifeboat to search for her five children -- including a 13-month-old boy named Eino from whom she had become separated during the final minutes of the crossing. "We thought they were all lost in the sea," says Schleifer.
Now, using teeth and bone pieces taken from the baby's grave, scientists have compared the DNA from the Unknown Child with those collected from members of five families who lost relatives on the Titanic and never recovered the bodies. The result of the test points only to one possible person: young Eino. Now, the family sees no need for a new grave. "He belongs to the people of Halifax," says Schleifer, "They've taken care of him for 90 years."

29、Children should do housework. That’s a controversial(有争议的) idea, though not everyone will admit it. A few parents will say that their children are too busy for housework. Many more of us assign(分派) housework, or say we believe in them, but the housework just doesn’t get done.
That’s a problem. For starters, housework is good for kids. Being a part of the routine work of running a household helps children develop an awareness of the needs of others, while at the same time contributing to their emotional well-being.
One small study, done over a period of 25 years, found that the best predictor(预测) for young adults’ success in their mid-20s was whether they participated in household tasks at age 3 or 4. Those early shared responsibilities extended to a sense of responsibility in other areas of their lives.
But for all that their help matters, few kids are doing much around the house at all. In a survey of 1,000 American adults, 75 percent said they believed regular housework made kids “more responsible”. Yet while 82 percent reported having had regular housework growing up, only 56 percent of those with children said they required them to do housework.
Sports and homework are not get-out-of-housework-free cards. The goal, after all, is to raise adults who can balance a caring role in their families and communities with whatever lifetime achievement goals they choose. Housework teaches that balance.
What should you do when getting children to do housework? Accept no excuses. Don’t worry if you must repeat yourself again and again. If you’re spending more time getting the child to do this job than it would take to do it yourself, then you’re doing it right. Can a payment help? Maybe. But if you’re trying to teach kids to share the responsibility of a home, paying them for routine housework is not the right message.
