二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、

As college sports continue to be hugely popular and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) brings in large amounts of money, people have restarted the discussion on whether college athletes should get paid.

Supporters of the idea believe that, because college athletes are bringing in audiences, they should receive some sort of compensation (补偿). In fact, the NCAA brings in about $1 billion income a year, but college athletes don’t receive any of that money in the form of a paycheck. Additionally, people who believe college athletes should be paid state that paying college athletes will actually encourage them to remain in college longer and not turn professionals as quickly, either by giving them a way to begin earning money in college or requiring them to sign a contract (合同) saying they’ll stay at the university for a certain number of years while making an agreed-upon salary.

People who argue against the idea of paying college athletes believe the practice could be disastrous for college sports. Paying athletes would turn college sports into a bidding (竞拍)war, where only the richest schools could afford top athletes, and most schools would be shut out from developing a talented team. It could also harm the friendship within many college teams if players become unhappy that certain teammates are making more money than they are.

Those against paying college athletes also believe that the athletes are receiving enough benefits already. The top athletes receive scholarships that are worth tens of thousands per year. They receive free food and textbooks, get travel bonuses and free equipment, and can use their time in college as a way to attract the attention of professional coaches. No other college students receive anywhere near as much from their schools.

While both sides have good points, it’s clear that the negatives of paying college athletes far outweigh the positives. College athletes have been compensated enough. Adding a salary would result in a college athletic system where only a few athletes are paid by some schools who enter bidding wars to sign them up, while most student athletics and college athletic programs suffer or even shut down for lack of money. Continuing to offer the present benefits to student athletes makes it possible for as many people to benefit from and enjoy college sports as possible.

【1】It can be learned from Paragraph 2 that college athletes ________.

A.have earned what they are promised

B.tend to serve college longer when well-paid

C.should make an agreed-upon salary by signing contracts

D.prefer to stay at university rather than turn professionals

【2】People against paying college athletes believe ________.

A.money should be spent on bonuses

B.schools would be unable to afford it

C.it could be harmful to college sports

D.students would value payments over achievements

【3】What is the author’s attitude towards paying college athletes?

    A.Uncertain.

    B.Satisfied.

    C.Positive.

    D.Unsupportive.

  • 28、On Jan.14, 2020, Microsoft retired Widows 7 and stopped offering security updates for one of the most-loved versions of its operating system. The main reason was that maintaining them requited resources and engineers. These could be expensive, especially as the company focused its efforts on new products and services.

Microsoft stopped adding new features to Windows 7 in 2015, and it had regularly been reminding users of the end-of life deadline and inviting them to equip Windows 10, which was growing quickly. But Windows 7 made up about 27 percent of desktop and laptops in October, 2019, according to Netmarketshare, which tracks usage of different technologies. There are more than 1.5 billion Windows devices in use and at least 400 million of them are still running the out-of-date operating system. If Windows 7 continues to decrease at the current pace, its share will drop to 13 percent by 2021―but that’s still more than 100 million devices.

Hackers are always hunting for insecure devices, which makes us anxious. If a new bug appears in Windows 7, bad actors will have millions of devices to attack and infect with virus at once. That’s why the company has an Extended Security Update program, which will run until January 2023. Organizations that want to continue using Windows 7 and receive bug patches have to pay $50 per device in the first year, $100 in the second year, and $200 in the third year to do so.

【1】Why did Microsoft retire Windows 7?

A.No one wanted to use it.

B.It was easy to be hacked.

    C.Maintaining it costs a lot.

    D.It was outdated and valueless.

【2】What is our worry about Windows 7?

    A.Decrease of its users.

    B.Cost for its bug patches.

    C.Replacement by Windows 10.

    D.Security of its operating system.

【3】How is the second paragraph developed?

    A.By listing data.

    B.By doing research.

    C.By giving examples.

    D.By making comparisons.

【4】In which part of a newspaper may this text appear?

    A.Culture.

    B.Business.

    C.Health.

    D.Education.

  • 29、Lu Xun is one of the greatest Chinese writers of the 20th century. Besides his famous stories, he also wrote many influential articles about the living conditions of Chinese people.

Born in 1881 to a wealthy family, Lu Xun had a happy childhood. In 1893, however, his grandfather, a senior government official, was put into prison for taking money. At the same time, his father became seriously ill. From that time on, his family were no longer accepted by their relatives and friends. These early experiences greatly influenced his writing.

By the time Lu Xun arrived in Nanjing to study at university in 1899, he already believed that Chinese society had to change and become modern. In 1902 he went to study in Japan. There, he began writing articles for several Chinese student magazines. He showed a gift for writing and translating and he even wrote several books, although none was popular. He returned to China in 1909 because he was in need of money.

After working for several years as a teacher in Beijing, Lu Xun again returned to writing. In 1918, he wrote his famous short story Diary of a Madman. It was the first Chinese novel published using the everyday language that people spoke, which helped make it a great success. This, together with his novel The True Story of Ah Q (1921), made Lu Xun a leading Chinese writer.

Although successful, Lu Xun still worried greatly about China’s future. In 1926, he moved to Shanghai and gave up writing stories in order to devote himself to what he called “pen warfare”. He now only wrote articles which called on the people to fight against the government. For this, the government stopped him from publishing any more books. He was forced to write his articles using false names.

Since his death in 1936, Lu Xun’s importance and influence have grown. Today, many of his writings are included in school textbooks and his works are read by millions around the world.

Barney looked a little bit uncomfortable. “Is everything OK?” I asked. “Well, I’m just not sure whether you will be able to come.” he said. I told him, “Of course we’re coming to watch.”

Over the next few days I kept working on the costume. “Barney will be so happy, Mum.” said Anne one afternoon. Barney was watching from the doorway and his face turned red. I did think at the time that he was acting very strangely. But perhaps he had a little bit of stage fear.

Then the big day was coming. Rob, Anne and I were really looking forward to Barney’s performance. After a couple of minutes he walked onto the stage. “I am the Easter Bunny!” he said loudly. He disappeared and the rest of the children sang a song. The play began. Rob, Anne and I waited for Barney to appear again. But soon it was all over. “He only had one line(台词)!”said Anne.
