二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Apples are generally red, green, yellow or a combination of the three, but if the right geographical conditions are met, they can grow dark purple, almost black, as well. These are apples are called Black Diamond, currently only grown in the mountains of Tibet.

Black Diamond apples get their dark purple color from the geographical conditions of Nyingchi, in Tibet. The 50-hectare (公顷) orchard(果园) set up by Chinese company Dandong Tianluo Sheng Nong E-Commerce Trade Co., Ltd. is 3,100 meters above sea level, making it the perfect place to grow these interesting fruits. The temperature differences between day and night are important, and the fruits get a lot of sunlight and ultraviolet light (紫外线), which causes their skin to go from the deep red to dark purple.

Production at the Nyingchi orchard started in 2015, three years after the trees were planted, but they can only be found in some high-end supermarkets in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and are usually sold in gift package of 6 to 8 fruits. And the price of Black Diamond apples is around 50 yuan per fruit.

Due to the low temperatures, Black Diamond apple trees’ growth rate is much lower than average. While most apple types are fully grown in 2 to 5 years, these trees require no less than 8 years. Furthermore, only about 30% of the orchard’s product meets the standards of color to be sold as high-quality Black Diamond apples.

Black Diamond apples are a mystery, even among experienced apple growers, as there really isn’t much information about them online. Some users of the Growing Fruit forum, for example, think these dark purple apples don’t really exist, while others say that the photos posted online have made the fruits darker than they really are.

【1】Which plays a key role in the growth of Black Diamond apples?

    A.Much rain.

    B.High temperature.

    C.Much land

    D.High altitude

【2】What are mainly introduced about Black Diamond apples in paragraph 2?

    A.Their unusual sizes

    B.Their limited numbers.

    C.Their growing conditions.

    D.Their high prices.

【3】What makes Black Diamond apples grow slower?

    A.Too much heat.

    B.Low temperatures.

    C.Much poor soil.

    D.Lack of enough water.

【4】Why is an example given in the last paragraph?

A.To tell people’s different ideas of Black Diamond apples.

B.To ask readers to learn more about Black Diamond apples.

C.To show people know little of Black Diamond apples.

D.To prove the information of Black Diamond apples wrong.

  • 27、   When Mark Dunajtschik escaped from the prison camp near the end of WWII, he was forced to leave his homeland of Yugoslavia. Five years after the war ended, he became a toolmaker. The trade he mastered then may have decided on his career, but it was the life lessons he learned that finally shaped the character of the man he’d someday become.

Almost without housing in post-war Germany, Dunajtschik’s only choice at that time was living in a shelter for the mentally and physically disabled. Seeing the daily challenges his housemates faced, he realized how just lucky he was. “Because I was given the opportunity to live in that home, which was founded by an industrialist in the 1880s, no that I am in a position where I can also do something, naturally I want to do it. ” he told the New Zealand Herald.

At the age of 85, as one of the most successful industrialists in New Zealand, Dunajtschik is ready to give back.

Already known for his charitable works — having financed the country’s Life Flight Trust helicopter rescue service — Dunajtschik is devoted to construction of a new children’s hospital in Wellington. In 2017, he spent $50 million dollars of his own money toward building it. But Dunajtschik had no desire to simply throw money at the new hospital. He took a hands-on approach to all his projects.

Over the summer, construction passed a major milestone. As Dunajtschik and Spotswood looked on, the industrial support cranes were cleared from the site, signaling the outside was complete. “Those people that are born with a healthy body and mind can look after themselves and those unfortunate to be born with, or suffering ill health, need our help,” said Dunajtschik.

    1What shaped Dunajtschik’s character?

    A.His trade. B.His career. C.His experience. D.His homeland.

2What do we know about Dunajtschik from paragraph 2?

A.He was content with the situation. B.He was physically hurt.

C.He suffered from a mental illness. D.He was really poor then.

3What did Dunajtschik actually do to build the hospital?

A.He only gave away money. B.He had no desire for it.

C.He offered rescue service. D.He took part in all the work.

4Which words can best describe Dunajstchik?

A.Grateful and hardworking. B.Brave and kind.

C.Humorous and thoughtful. D.Positive and calm.

  • 28、   Every child who grows up in a big family needs a little peace sometimes. As a little girl, Nalini Nadkarni discovered one place where she could always find it. She would climb up into the tall trees around her home. There, high in the trees, she made herself a promise. One day, she would become someone who could use her love of trees to help protect them.

As she grew, she became interested in the rainforest. Looking up into the forest trees, Nalini thought there were surely things to be learned in the treetops. She was told, however, that there was nothing important to learn high above her head. Luckily, that didn't stop her. Instead, she used her rock climbing skills to safely reach the forest treetops. There, she discovered the whole ecosystem. It needed to be studied so scientists could get deeper understanding of the rainforest.

Dr Nadkarni also discovered the importance of canopy soil (树冠层土壤). When mosses(藓)and other plants that live on trees die, they slowly become canopy soil. The soil is nutrient-rich, and the whole ecosystem depends on it. Even the trees themselves take nutrients from canopy soil.

To create greater interest in forest studies, Dr Nadkarni really got creative. In the early 2000s, she bought second hand Barbie dolls and turned them into "forest Barbies". Finally, Mattel, the company behind Barbie, used Dr Nadkarni's idea to create dolls to make science interesting to children everywhere. Now, Dr Nadkarni can truly consider her childhood promise well kept.

【1】When Dr Nadkarni was a little girl, she could find peace________.

    A.in the tall trees

    B.in the rainforest

    C.when she was doing research

D.when she was with her family

【2】The underlined word "that" in Paragraph 2 refers to________.

    A.the forest treetops

    B.a different opinion

    C.Dr Nadkarni's bad luck

    D.the dangers of climbing trees

【3】What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?

    A.What canopy soil is.

B.How a new ecosystem was found.

    C.Dr Nadkarni's childhood promise.

    D.One of Dr Nadkarni's discoveries.

【4】Dr Nadkarni used Barbie dolls to________.

    A.raise money for her research

    B.help Mattel reach more children

C.make her childhood dream come true

D.make children more interested in science

【5】Which of the following is TRUE about Dr Nadkarni?

    A.She is a creative scientist.

    B.She can't keep her promise.

C.She was born into a small family.

D.She loved Barbie dolls as a little girl.

  • 29、   Light and bright, cheap and cheerful: IKEA's 400-plus outlets (专营店)in 49 countries all run on the same central principle. Customers do as much of the work as possible, in the belief they are having fun and saving money. You drive to a distant warehouse built on cheap out-of-town land. Inside, you enter a maze (迷宫)---no shortcuts allowed—where every twist reveals new furniture.

Compared with the prices of other outlets, IKEA's are much lower. You load up your trolley (手 推车)with impulse buys—a clock, storage boxes, tools and more chairs than you will ever use. You drag cardboard boxes, cupboards and tables into your car and reward yourself for your economy and good taste. Then you drive home and put your prizes together. You are satisfied with the bargains. IKEA is satisfied with your money.

The company's name was a do-it-yourself job, too. IKEA stands for Ingvar Kamprad, from Elmtaryd―his family's farm—in Agunnaryd. That village is in the Smaland region of southern Sweden. Mr Kamprad founded IKEA aged 17. Well before that, he spotted a principle which would make him one of the richest men in the world that customers like buying goods at wholesale prices (批发价).First he bought matches in large quantities and sold them by the box. Aged ten, he sold pens in the similar way.

Setbacks inspired him. Facing a price war against his low-cost mail-order furniture business, he defeated competitors by opening a showroom. Dealers tried to crush Mr Kamprad and banned him from their trade fairs. He slipped in, hiding in a friend's car. When they tried to threaten his suppliers, he relied on his own workers, and secretly sold his production to communist Poland. Decades later, east Europeans freed from the planned economy drove hundreds of miles to newly opened outlets in Moscow and Warsaw.

His self-discipline was world-famous. As a child, he removed the "off' button from his alarm clock to stop himself oversleeping. He rarely took a first-class seat. The wine didn't get you there any earlier, he sniffed; having lots of money was no reason to waste it. He bought his clothes in second-hand markets, and for years drove an elderly Volvo until he had to sell it on safety grounds. He had his hair cut in poor countries to save money. Visitors admired the views, but were surprised that his house was so shabby. He worked well into his eighties.

His diligence and simple way of life set a good example to his 194,000 "co-workers". But he was not mean. The point of cutting costs was to make goods affordable, not to compromise quality. He urged his staff to reflect constantly on ways of saving money, time and space. An improved design that allows easier piling means shipping less air—and more profit.

Culture was more important than strategy. He disliked 'exaggerated (夸张的)planning", along with financial markets and banks. Better to make mistakes and learn from them. And use time wisely: "You can do so much in ten minutes. But ten minutes once gone are gone for good." This did not apply to customers. The longer they stayed, the better.

Mr Kamprad's impact on modern life can be compared with that of Henry Ford and the mass-produced motor car. Furniture used to be expensive, dark and heavy. For many people, decorating a home could cost many months' salary. IKEA made furniture not just affordable and functional, but fun. The mission was civilizational, he felt, changing how people lived and thought.

His approach drew some fire. The company values struck some as unpleasant. At IKEA's Corporate Culture Centre, lots of pictures of Mr Kamprad with his mottos can be seen everywhere. What's worse, some parts of the supply chain seemed to have serious problems to overcome.

1What can we learn about IKEA in Paragraph 1?

A.IKEA prefers rural areas for its location.

B.IKEA has 400 outlets throughout the world.

C.IKEA likes to store new furniture in a maze.

D.IKEA provides a lot of work for its customers.

2The underlined two sentences in Paragraph 2 imply that .

A.IKEA tricks you into spending more money

B.you may buy bargains with impulse in IKEA

C.both you and IKEA are pleased with the deal

D.both you and IKEA are happy with the bargain

3What can be inferred from paragraph 5 and 6 about Mr. Kamprad?

A.He never overslept due to his alarm clock being set.

B.He was against drinking but for sniffing at the wine.

C.He sold the old Volvo with the purpose of saving money.

D.He didn't give up the quality of furniture for more profit.

4Which of the following has nothing to do with Mr. Kamprad's success in business?

A.The pictures and mottos of Mr. Kamprad.

    B.The setbacks Mr. Kamprad experienced.

    C.Mr. Kamprad's principles of management.

    D.Mr. Kamprad's self-discipline and diligence.
